I had this beer last night, 12-02-11, at the Dinosaur BBQ with the "Big Ass Pulled Pork Platter". This beer pours a dark brown with a caramel colored tan head that leaves nice lacing. I have read the other reviews of this beer and as I would agree that it isn't as smokey as it could be. I will tell you, that if you want to see the complexity and depth of this porter, get the collard greens as a side side and this beer shines like a beacon on your palate. I could have just had a plate of collard greens and 3 more of these beers. It is a good drinking beer, and like I said, not as smokey as I would have liked, it matched perfectly with the pulled pork and sides. I enjoyed the dining experience even more with the addition of this beer. And that my friends is what drinking is all about.

available only at the dinosaur bbq in syracuse new york brewed proproetarily by middle ages. pours a frothy dark brown color with medium head. head went away quickly but likely from the grease and wing sauce on my lips. smells smokey for sure, sweet fruit wood smoke though, not scotchy peat smoker or intense hickory smoke. also had a nice lighter roasted malt vibe, not too heavy. flavor is the same as the smell, but with a mild hop finish. didnt stand up to the big food at the restaurant, but was phenominal before the meal at the bar. will get this again

The beer pours a dark brown color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a solid pale and black malt scent along with a dry, roasted aroma. It doesn't have the peated malt character like most smoked porters. The taste is decent as well. Again, it has an excellent dry, roasted flavor that's mildly earthy, but lacking the smoked malt flavor. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a good drinking beer and a very good porter. However, I don't feel it contains enough peated character to consider it a true smoked porter.

On Tap at Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse NY for 4.00$

Appearance - Brown colour with with an average size fizzy head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, chocolate, smoke/burnt notes

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and the beer feels a little thin. I can taste malts, chocolate, and some smokey/burnt notes. There is also a bit of a graininess and it ends with a malty lightly smoked aftertaste.

Overall - Not a whole lot of smoke going on in the taste.. you really have to look for it while you drink. Still a very drinkable beer that compliments smokey BBQ food well.

Not bad, but not particularly memorable either. Decent tasting beer with a relatively thin mouthfeel, minimal aroma, and unfortunately, no perceptible "smoke"

A - Dark brown with a very slight amber glow on the bottom and a small layer of light brown head.

S - Roasted malts, light smoke, some chocolate and a big nutty aroma.

T - Roasted malts, chocolate, and a fairly prominent nutty flavour that begins to dominate after a few sips. The smoke is nowhere to be found.

M - Light to medium body. Slightly creamy. Moderate carbonation.

O - A decent beer but tasted like a mix of a brown ale and a lighter porter. No smoke at all.

On tap at Dinosaur BBQ in Rochester, NY.

Pours a dark mahogany brown, with no head or lacing.

Smells slightly roasty and smoky, but it's faint.

The taste is kind of faint. Like the other Dino house brew, it doesn't necessarily taste bad, it's just a bit watery and boring. Mild, generic smoke flavor, a bit of roasted malt, small amount of chocolate.

More carbonated than I'd expect for a smoked porter. Light bodied, slightly watery mouthfeel. Still fairly drinkable.

Not Middle Ages' best effort here. Just boring and not all well executed.
