The brewery/restaurant is located in the center of a strip mall along a busy commercial street. There is adequate parking in front. Being lovers of German beers and food, my wife and I had to try this place to see how authentic it is. It's pretty close to places that we experienced when we visited Bavaria, so we liked it here. There are two dining areas with bars in both, and both bars have seating. Decor around the place seems almost cluttered touristy, but it fits. We liked the vibe. The place wasn't busy during an early afternoon on a Sunday, so service was very good.

We wanted to try their beers brewed under the DunderBrau name, so we chose a sampler flight of 4 of the 5 beers (not a fan of hefes). Only two (the Helles and the Smoked Helles are traditional German styles, and they were good but there wasn't anything exciting about them. An ESB and a sour were the other two, and the sour (Solera #15) was the best of the four beers. Overall we graded them at a B-minus score. (There are also 50 guest beers available ranging from imports to craft beers and macros of all styles. A list is online.)

The food was very good, with the menu being mostly German offerings, although American some dishes are also listed. Wine is also available. Beers on tap can be taken home in growlers, plus there is a good selection of bottled/canned beers (imports and American craft) to go. This place also has a marketplace of some imported packaged food items,.

We liked this place and hope to return some day. It's as close as you can come to a German or Old World experience. Whether you're a fan of German foods or not, this place is highly recommended.

This is definitely a beer bar worth visiting if you're in Tampa (and if I was a regular I'd be here as a regular) but it's not a "BEER beer bar". The tap selection is great and has constant rotation and the bottle shop had numerous bottles that I can't find elsewhere so the selection is top notch. But the place tries to be more of a family restaurant and is real cluttered, and with only a tiny bar to drink at I can't see how this place is a beer geek mecca. As for the food, it wasn't bad - that's all I can say.

Great traditional German restaurant with tasty food and wonderful beer. More than just German beer on tap and in bottles. Worth a visit. I will be back.

This place is a sort of Beer Utopia. The food is incredible, the ambiance is incredible. I would love it, if this restaurant were in driving distance to my home. It's a very German style establishment, with delicious German food, and incredible German beer. If you're ever in Tampa, please for the Love of God visit this place.

On a recent trip to Tampa my wife and I chose Mr. Dunderbak's for our meal and incredible beer selection. A little research had shown me that this place had one of the finest tap selections in the area. No disappointments. The food is superb and very authentic, service was top notch (we sat at the bar). There is a small grocery store in the place selling primo quality wurst and other German condiments etc. We went back a second time and were again well pleased with everything.

Loved this place. Lots of great beer to try. Didn't try the food just drank and got some bottles to go of stuff I couldn't find at stores. Bottles are pretty unorganized and the tap menu cycles slowly with ads in between, but the staff is super helpful and will take the time to let you sample the taps or even scour through the bottles.

A - Came here on a Tuesday evening. Looks like a German beer hall. Overall the place has a lively atmosphere and is pleasant. I did find the place a little dirty and the seating is quite cramped.

Serv - All selections on a printed menu and a digital board. Proper glassware used. Server knew about the beer, but I could do without hearing everything our group ordered was "a great choice".

Sel - Good mix of imports and domestic with a few locals. I went with St. Somewhere Caroline and Duchesse De Bourgogne.

Food - The authentic German food was really good. Our group was happy with everything. Jagerschnitzel was tasty.

Value - I found the prices consistent with craft pours in the area.

This was a restaurant that has a great beer selection. I would come back if I ever find myself in Tampa.

I have a hard time rating this place. I will NOT stay at Dunderbak when they have that awful - truly dreadful - accordion player. If you go there and you hear even one chord of accordion let me give you some advise - leave immediately. You don't even want one beer as the most awful music will drill into your brain no matter how much you try to avoid listening.

When the accordion player is not there then I really like hanging out here. The staff are all very knowledgeable about the beers on tap. I find all the help to be quite friendly and you get a very good vibe from them. The beer selection is very heavy German lagers and sours which you would expect from a German food restaurant. I like American craft IPA's and my only fault is the selection is usually scant here - 2 or 3 and beers you've undoubtedly drunk before.

The food is really quite tasty. We've eaten here a lot of times and can truly say we haven't had a bad meal experience. The food quality and value for the money is quite good.

If they'd just lose the damn accordion player this would be a 5

A old world German bier haus. Very cluttered...

Q good beer, good food

S service is mediocre... They don't know what's in bottles and the draft list is never up to date

S a lot of beer, but they don't know what they have...

F good food. Authentic German.

V not too costly. A fair price.

The place is ok. But what a pain in the ass. It's so cluttered I feel like I'm in my grandmothers front room with all the nickknacks... The beer is in no order, the coolers are a mess. The paper draft list is never right...

I started going to Dunder's when I was in college at the nearby USF and have been hooked since. They have an amazing restaurant with decorations that tend to lend itself to the eclectic. Their beer list always has something I haven't had before (which is getting harder and harder to find!). Their beers are all reasonably priced for the quality and are quick with the samples. The bottle room is a little on the pricey side if you are going to drink it in house but the 15% off to go makes it well within reason. Another note on the bottle room, it is some what organized lending the determined shopper to find hidden gems (a six pack of '07 barleycorn last time I went). They also get a lot of the nearby CCB gems I don't see other places. Great food (I recommend the huge sandwiches) and even have a nice vegeatarian menu for us 'too manly for meat' guys.

I don't like writing bad reviews, so I'm going to try and keep this as cordial as possible...

Located in a strip mall type place, you walk thru the front door and there is stuff piled on top of one another...all beer stuff, kind of odd. Is this a retail store, a bar, a deli, what? I notice a room off the right that has bottles and bottles of craft beer...okay they have a retail space inside this bar/deli, cool. The host greets us, and we say we'd like to have a beer, and seeing how the bar was full, the host went into melt down mode, and couldn't figure out how to handle the situation. Well, we can sit on one of the three couches in ONE of the bar areas, or one of the tables, not a problem.
The selection is nice, again nothing outstanding. Heavy on German, and foreign pours, with some good craft speckled in there.
Everything was poured in proper glassware, but it just wasn't a very welcoming vibe, honestly. As we left, the host was bringing the open sign in, and it was 7...maybe that's why it was such a weird vibe, everyone was hustling to get out on a Sunday night. I will try this place again, but left feeling slighted and unfulfilled, it just wasn't what it's ninety something rating says it is. We did not try any food.

Dunderbak's was my bar of choice for six years in Tampa. If you appreciate beer or want to learn about it, it's the place to go. They have 55 beers on tap featuring both German and craft brews, rotating daily. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. The food is excellent - almost better than what I had in Germany - and they offer awesome weekend specials. They also feature local musicians weekly, they got me started brewing beer, and host the Tampa BEERS homebrew club the first Tuesday of every month. Having just moved to the Twin Cities area for work, I have yet to find a bar that's as inviting and comfortable as Mr. Dunderbak's. I would recommend it to anyone who's interested in good beer, good food, or is just looking for a cool place to hang out.

Nice find in Tampa, perfect after a day at Busch Gardens.

Picnic tables inside a European deli ambiance. Beer/wine are all around you. Box cases of interesting beers stacked around the shop.

Extensive german menu and the few items we snacked on were spot on. Definitely recommend both hot pretzels (the "american" and the "german") as well as the pierogis.

Beer selection is outstanding. Not as german as I would have guessed, but a very impressive array of crafts. Probably 20-30 taps.

My server was friendly, but didn't know a whole lot about the beers. Could have just been luck of the draw.

Prices are great.

Overall, a great find. Recommend stopping in if you are in the area.

As a former student from USF this used to be one of my favorite places to visit while living in that Temple Terrace/New Tampa area. This place has a german beer hall feel and look; sometimes they even have people playing german songs with accordions which is a funny addition to the atmosphere. Best of all, this place has a wide variety of beers both on tap and bottles.

Food is good and the service has always been pleasant and fast. The staff seems to be very knowledgeable, at least when I was there they were able to answer a few questions and recommend me some good beers.

If you are in the Tampa area give this place a shot!
