Appearance: Arrives with a clear honey color and a modest head that fades to a ringlet

Smell: Floral and grapefruity

Taste: Sweet and grapefruity at the outset, with a growing bitterness that blossoms by mid-palate; after the swallow, the beer is pure grapefruit indulgence

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: As good a DIPA as I have tasted; pure man candy

On-tap at the brewpub.

Pours a hazy copper color with a 1.5-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a patchy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of smooth caramel malts with large amounts of pine and lighter amounts of herbal hops. Also present are slight floral and spicy aromas.

Tastes not nearly as smooth as it smells. Moderately dry caramel malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by solid amounts of pine hop flavors. Midway through the sip the flavor profile dries out even more and moderate amounts of indistinct fruit flavors make an appearance. A combination of caramel malt, fruit, and pine hop flavors - in that order - carry through to a solidly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall it seems as though the beer I tasted had some serious variations from the beer had by the other three reviewers. To me the flavor profile was muddled and had some off flavors, almost as though the fermentation temperature was on the high side. In any event, it's worth a shot to see for yourself.

Billed as "The sixth (and last) beer in our Single Double series (Double IPAs made using a single hop variety), this one using FRESH (in bold) Chinook. Chinook has a distinct piney character with notes of citrus and spice."

My turn. It arrived with a big, foamy, bone-white head that was already beginning to fall away, leaving sticky lacing in its wake. The color was a deep amber with NE-quality clarity. The nose had the pine/citrus quality mentioned on the menu, like the product of a cross between a pine tree and a grapefruit tree. The mouthfeel was medium-to-full with a hoppy, tangy zest along with a pleasant sweetness on the tongue. The finish was brilliant with the grapefruit/pine quality continuing, but now accompanied by black pepper. Spicy? You bet! My tongue and esophagus tingled long after the swallow.

Sampled on tap at Noddinghead.

A - A very pale golden color with good clarity and a small white head.

S - A very fragrant floral and fruity hop aroma. The scent is huge and right on target. Absolute perfection.

T - This beer tastes just as good as it smells. It's all about the hops with more flavor than bitterness. It doesn't have a big malt presence and while some might call that unbalanced, it's a hophead's dream.

M - Nice carbonation. Maybe a bit thin for a DIPA but it's just right for me.

D - This is as good a beer as I've had in a long time.

I had this on tap at the brew pub. It was served in a tulip, deep orange color with a 2 finger white head. The aroma was full of sweet citrus especially grapefruit. The beer was sweet lots of tropical fruit, pine, and citrus. It has a ligeringsweet finish. It is medium in body, sticky mouthfeel, well carbonated. A very enjoyable dipa, even the nonbeer lovers liked it.
