A solid option for craft beer and food in Grand Island. They serve mostly Thunderheads brews, with maybe a few from other Nebraska craft breweries. The food was good, but I do not think they source any local foods. Service was fine, especially for a Saturday evening with a game on. Prairie Pride is around the block and walkable. Worth a visit.

EDIT: Chicken Coup is not really a brewpub any longer. Mondern Monks taken controll of the brewery... as such you'll find Thunderhead and Mondern Monks beers here. Think of it as a beer bar now...

This brewpub is located in downtown Grand Island. It is a block north of Highway 30 and thus it is very easy to find. There is plenty of parking both on and off street.

Inside the layout consists two big, rectangular rooms with high ceilings and wooden floors. The walls are exposed bricks. One room is home to restaurant seating in booths and tables. It is fairly spacious and everything is spread out. In the adjoining room is the bar, it was fairly big, and there are a few high-top tables. The brewing equipment is exposed and at the opposite end is a small game room with one pool table and two dartboards. There is plenty of TVs scattered around, this is a sports bar after all. Keno. There is outside seating too. I like the small town vibe.

When I visited it was 2:30 pm on a Saturday. It wasn't busy but there were a few people. I was disappointed at how damn smoky it was! I couldn't drink here all night, as it would bother me, the smoke smelled old and built-in. I was impressed that there was around ten Thunderhead beers on-tap, including the more exotic offerings (like Smoked Porter and Espresso Stout). In fact the same beers are on-tap here and Kearney. That is cool. There was a couple guest taps with swill and there is plenty of crap in bottles. Whatever pays the bills.

I didn't eat but I checked out the menu, it had wings, pub grub, some salads, and lots of appetizers.

We had good, prompt service. I didn't really test her "beer knowledge" but she didn't give me any funny looks when we ordered the beer.

I hope this place really takes off in GI, I hope the locals come to find out what I already know: Thunderhead brews the best damn beers in Nebraska. It is worth a visit but if you have a choice between here and Kearney, visit Kearney first.
