Style: American Adjunct Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
America's first domestic ice beer, Icehouse is traditionally brewed, fermented and, just before aging, its temperature is lowered to below freezing. This process imparts the beer's smoothness and an alcohol content that's slightly higher (5.5% by volume) than other regular premium beer brands. Icehouse was introduced in 1993 and has reinforced its position as the ultimate beer for wind-up and pre-game occasions. Blending humor and high-energy excitement, Icehouse marketing encourages its target consumers to take occasions to the next level with a great-tasting beer.

The head is surprisingly large and creamy when it settles. Retention is also surprisingly good for an adjunct, and when it settles further it's pretty rocky. It ultimately sticks around as a thick foam, and it only leaves some spotty lacing except for a thick ring at the top when it sits in the glass for a minute. It's not impressive for a beer, but it is for this style. The beer itself has a bit of chill haze but is otherwise a completely clear pale gold.
Some corn husk and a fruity tang with a grainy undertone are all I get from the nose.
It's a little hoppier than most in the style, but I also get an unpleasant alcohol burn and some plastic-like notes. Malts are fairly dry but too light.
It's obviously light and somewhat thin, but crisp and with a bit of smoothness to it. It's not quite creamy, but almost.

Always seen my uncle drink this throughout my life so i had to try it. This is a good beer to drink during the hot summer.

Theres no bad aftertaste and it gets the job done. You get a nice buzz without drinking alot of them. Im not a real big fan of ice beers but this is my favorite one.

The price could go down a lil bit. Its pretty high down here in Indiana. Overall you cant go wrong with an ice cold Icehouse.

18 pack of 12oz cans on sale at Circle K here in Durham NC for $10.99

I used to drink this regularly before they elevated the prices of it to premium beer prices when i still lived in Indiana.

its a cheap tasting ice beer that shouldnt be 7.50 a 6 pack in bottles...its a sub 5 dollar beer. Its not as offensive as some of the others like Natural Ice or Old Milwaukee Ice. I figured id try it again after 4 years because it was 4 dollars off on a 18 pack.

it is what it is... a cheap ice beer. nothing special

Tall boy can into a pint glass at my house on July 19, 2012. About two fingers of head. Pale, golden color. Bubbly white head. Hardly any retention.

Smelled light caramel malts, corn, honey, grain and bread.

Tasted corn, metallic, honey, lots of grains, bread and a bad note of strong alcohol.

Light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt watery finish.

Not a bad beer for the style. It started out pretty well but the taste was not much to speak of.

The beer is amazingly clear with a white head. Clean aroma with a strong corn character. Some grainiess and a bit of yeast. Very simple flavor as well. No hop character or anything, but a clean flavor and moderate sweetness. Better than I had remembered.
