Miller Brewing Co.
Wisconsin, United States

Style: American Adjunct Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
America's first domestic ice beer, Icehouse is traditionally brewed, fermented and, just before aging, its temperature is lowered to below freezing. This process imparts the beer's smoothness and an alcohol content that's slightly higher (5.5% by volume) than other regular premium beer brands. Icehouse was introduced in 1993 and has reinforced its position as the ultimate beer for wind-up and pre-game occasions. Blending humor and high-energy excitement, Icehouse marketing encourages its target consumers to take occasions to the next level with a great-tasting beer.

Tall boy can into a pint glass at my house on July 19, 2012. About two fingers of head. Pale, golden color. Bubbly white head. Hardly any retention.

Smelled light caramel malts, corn, honey, grain and bread.

Tasted corn, metallic, honey, lots of grains, bread and a bad note of strong alcohol.

Light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt watery finish.

Not a bad beer for the style. It started out pretty well but the taste was not much to speak of.

The beer is amazingly clear with a white head. Clean aroma with a strong corn character. Some grainiess and a bit of yeast. Very simple flavor as well. No hop character or anything, but a clean flavor and moderate sweetness. Better than I had remembered.

Poured into a beer stein

Appearance - Pale yellow color with a very voluminous albeit soapy head that quickly fizzes away.

Smell - Malts, Corn, Cereal Grains, Slight Yeasts and Ice Cubes. That is probably the best way I can describe it. Smells like freezer burned food as well

Taste - Cooked Corn, Malts, Cereal Grains, and freezer burn. Like the scent, if they could make "freezer burn" into a flavor, this would come pretty close to it

Mouthfeel - Light & carbonated. At least it's somewhat crisp, which is it's strongest feature

Overall - I don't really see the appeal to Ice Beers. I definitely have had worse but this just was not a great beer to drink what-so-ever. Don't be tempted by the $1.50 price tag, spend that extra $2 and get a bomber of Fat Tire instead

Miller Brewing Co.
Style: American Adjunct Lager
ABV: 5.50 %

LOOK: Clear, pale, almost perfectly clear, but with a yellow hint. Soapy head forms and fizzles quickly to nothing.

SMELL: Spent grains, stale hop, corn.

TASTE: Upfront sweet crispness gives way to a very vague almost hidden malt/corn character and a big note of dirty pennies. Metallic, harsh, grainy, low bitterness, twang of stale spent hops, and a well water characteristic that just can't be ignored. Other tasters have commented that this beer must be served ICE cold, and I tend to agree. Great beer does not need to be ICE cold, as it masks the flavor, but here it is an improvement.

FEEL: Light bodied, over carbonated, no finish besides unpleasant metallic and rotten corn notes.

OVERALL: Pretty rough stuff here. Tastes pretty much like a 3% beer that has been iced to death to create a measly few abv degrees. Not alot of flavor, and the flavor there is not tasty and very metallic. There are better "cheap beer" options than this.... just about anything. But don't take my word for it, just read a few reviews. Universally awful and not to be purchased unless you're a glutton for punishment .
