The awful rating on here is beyond me. Had a bottle of MGD last night & loved it. What does MGD taste like one might ask? Uhh, B-E-E-R beer in all capital letters. I like High Life, too, and it admittedly has a better mouthfeel than MGD, but MGD just has a certain something that’s pretty dang hard to resist. The Cold Filtering, perhaps? Who knows, who cares. And that certain something is probably why I’m giving it an overall rating of 5 (even if it doesn’t exactly correlate with the rest of the ratings). Also giving it an overall of 5 mainly ‘cause... is there another AAL out there in the 4 to 5% range that’s better? I sure can’t think of one. Anyway, cheers!

Surprised to find a 40oz here, grabbed it up for $2.19. It was fine, nothing to get excited about. Wish I could find smaller bottles of it. Felt the 40 was a bit much.

It came as a surprise to me that Miller Genuine Draft is sold in Australia. I assumed it was imported by one of the big 2 in Australia. However, the label says its distributed by Good Drinks Australia. The label also then informs me it's a product of Australia.

This confused me somewhat. Obviously it's brewed under license, like Budweiser, but Good Drinks Australia are a distributor, not a brewery. A bit of Google investigating later, I discovered it's brewed under license by Coopers, but distributed by GDA. Not sure how that works, GDA is based in Perth, WA. Coopers brew in Adelaide, South Australia. I dunno, but it's made in Australia and distributed by another company.

Vessel: 330ml clear glass bottle. Purchased at Glenfield Bottle Shop in Sydney in late December, drunk a few weeks later in mid-January. No best before date is avaliable.

Appearance: Clear Golden straw colour. Thin bubbly white head which looks like it's going the way of the dinasaurs, the dodo, and polar ice caps. Completely filtered, very bubbly, champagne esque. Sure enough, head has disappated to a light scum atop the beer.

Aroma: Kelloggs Corn Flakes, when did you start making beer? Smells like a bowl of the classic Cereal. Slight floral hop aroma, and something acidic, I wanted to say a slight grain alcohol whiff, but would be difficult at 4.7% ABV. It's innoffensive enough, just standard American lager. Generic lager smell.

Taste: bready and malty. Bit of a hop bite throughout the mouthfeel. Innofensive, and not awful. Finishes dry with a acidic feeling. Not sure if that's natural or not. It's not the worlds greatest lager, but have had a hell of a lot worse. Probably the most bitter/acidic adjunct lager I've drunk.

Feel: Light, watery, and highly fizzy. Could knock em back quick on a hot day. Finishes quite dry.

Overall: Yeah, it's not awful, but the more I drink, the more that acidic bitterness feels unnatural in my throat. It's generic, but it's better than Budweiser, and Coors Light. But, that's a low bar to set. it's OK.

MGD always had some sexy branding. The old design was classy but the new label is fantastic; it has elements of modern flat design, but it's not globohomo - it's got an abstract, minimalist bent that I dig. Shame this beer is still going the way of the wooly mammoth. 12-ounce bottle, chilled just below freezing and poured into a large, lidded MGD tankard. (One of my favorite pieces of glassware in my collection.)

Look: I'll always prefer the look of darker beers, but this isn't bad. A slightly opaque yellow with a ton of carbonation. Stark white, soapy head with nice retention: it's still a finger thick ten minutes after pouring.

Smell: Old closet, maybe some grass clippings.

Taste: That oyster cracker maltiness is dominant, with a little hop bite and a sourdough finish. It's on the dry side, unusual for adjunct lager, so preferred to its close, sugary cousin High Life. Also has a nice, grape aftertaste, giving it a leg up on the wet sock funk of Miller Lite.

Feel: Quaffable as water, but with enough body to ensure there's no carbonation bite.

Overall: One of the better macro lagers, and the best of Miller's main lineup, which is already superior to AB Inbev. (Though Pabst has the best with regional acquisitions like Hamm's.) As long as I can keep finding it, this will be a go-to cheap beer.

If you think this is bad, you're out of your mind and lucky you never tasted a kopykat called Olympia Genuine Draft!!! It was a similar can and it was 6.99 a case in 1994, but my frat bought 1000 cases for less than $3. Biggest mistake in our lives. I would've turned to Allah if that Oly Genuine Draft tasted like Miller GD.

Really not worth it compared to highlife, this is much too acidic and just not good.

Packaged Nov 22 2022. Poured Oct 16 2023

A: standard pale lager colour. foam stability on par with your average German Pils, surprisingly. my mouth would water seeing this poured from a tap.

S: estery, sweet bread. slight leafy hop. reminds me of Banquet.

T: follows nose. some barley and corn sweetness and faint hop bitterness

F: mouthfeel is middling. has enough body despite being an adjunct brew. carbonation on middle-low side.

O: a decent alternative to High Life, but not a replacement. despite being 11 months old, the beer seemed to have good foam stability, though it definitely diminished carbonation and hop character.

A faintly gold, clear body with minimal sparkles weakly builds a short white head of airy foam that dies fairly quickly.

If I've had this before it was from an uncle's stealth at as a preteen, but even now I really can't be sure just how incrementally different this is from High Life, not having them side by side.

It's lightly bread, softly effervescent, semisweet and very mildly herbally tangy. The nose is a faint touch toastier and also a little white grapey.
