this is a 40 of MALT LIQUOR! it's not that bad. when it's cold you can down half the bottle pretty quick. no weird bitter taste. it's kind of like cheap miller lite. not a lot of carbonation, so you can drink it quicker. just drink half the bottle, put it in the freezer for 20 minutes, then drink the rest.

Magnum malt liquor pours out golden yellow. A lot of lacing on the glass. Streaming bubbles running up this glass. Smell of corn, grain, and malts. Taste get some malt, corn, and a touch of hops. Finishes smooth crisp clean and refreshing. One if the Better malt liquors. Might be my favorite.

From a 40! Stamped MAY0514-CO5110027. Sampled on January 12, 2014.

One needs to look at this based on the style rather than on the reputation of American malt liquors...which among craft brew fans is about the lowest it can be.

Malt liquors are supposed to look pale yellow with a big fizzy white head. This does.

malt liquors normally smell of rancid corn, rice, grain, and other adjuncts. This one does not. Yes, those characters are there but they are far more muted. Quite frankly this smells a lot like a standard American pale lager.

Malt liquor bodies are often thin and watery. This one is smooth and about medium.

Malt liquors can make you wince with the metallic taste and overly rambunctious corn and grain characters. There is a bit of that here but this is not cloying or rancid. It is really smooth. If more malt liquors were like this one I'd be drinking a lot of them. Sorry previous raters and BA members, I have to score it much higher than you did.

Magnum has a fairly thick, white head and a very clear yellow-golden appearance. Aroma is skunky (at times from the clear bottle) and grainy. Carbonation is moderate to high. The taste is pretty good, for an inexpensive, mass-produced extra-strong beer. Some slight hop spice does shine through, which cuts the overly malty main taste profile. Mouth-feel is moderate and slimy on occasion (from the bottle). Magnum finishes fairly refreshing and crisp. I like to have this from time to time, and I think people unfairly give it a hard time. Hey, it's a pretty decent common beer!

Yellow colored beer with a rapidly fading head that actuslly laces the glass.Aroma is pretty much standard for a malt liquor.Taste is watery and sweet but in an unoffensive way.I would actually go to say this might be the best malt liquor I've had.I usually don't drink malt liquors but I saw it at the store and thought I haven't reviewed this one yet,and It actually turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Clearly labeled freshness date of March 14th, 2011
Reviewing this one to style

Decent head for the style. Color is good but maybe a little light.
Smell is average. Nothing good or bad there.
Taste is pretty good for a malt liquor. Better than many others I've had, but maybe a little weaker on the flavor. Nothing off-putting, which is an improvement
Nothing notable about the mouthfeel.
Drinkability is very good. Overall pretty good for a malt liquor

edit: Drinkability -> Overall

Overall it is above average for a Malt Liquor but not great

Awesome appearance. Three fingers of bone white dense head that lasted 20 minutes leaving dense lacing all the way down. Head is still there and depositing lace.
Smell is a bit funky and I think it is an herbal hop variety that is giving that funky earthy aroma.
Taste is similar to the nose. Dominated by the herbal grassy hop flavor and the malts are there but don't quite balance the hops.
Mouthfeel is light to medium with good carbonation.
Finish is slightly dry and the hop bitterness is long lasting.
Weird date on the bottom of the bottle. It is a Julian date which is a Bud thing I thought. It says 255 14 which would be close to 100 days before the year end of 365.
I hope that is a born on date or I am tasting an aged version of this beer!

A great bottle for a little beer is not so good , under king cobra and mickeys, but i drink at last;

It has that piss color to it and that great sugar taste. like the common of the american malt liquors; not like the german malt liquors, are little more fine than those;

i try with a pipe tobacco smoking, both things last the same time

69% recommended.

40oz poured into a Three Philosophers wine-style glass in order to be fashionably ironic. Considered drinking out of the bottle, but thought that would be too meta-ironic. Also, I wanted to rate the head. As if it matters. Stamped AUG2211 on neck. Anyway, lets crack this pig open.

Appearance - A hard pour gave a finger and a half head which looks like it's going to dissolve in the next minute or so. Why am I even rating this? Ultra pale straw body.

Smell - Strong corny sweetness. I'd have trouble telling this apart from a Warsteiner in a blind smell test. Not bad. Well, for the style at least.

Taste - Damn. Even tastes like a Warsteiner. Not bad. Again -- for the style. As a beer, the taste is still pretty base. Corn with slight musk.

Mouthfeel - Slight crispness. Sweet body with a strange finish. It's both dry and sweet at the same time. Sweetness on the lips, and a dry astringency on the tongue.

Overall Drinkability - Meh. There's only one product named Magnum that one should be proud of buying, and this isn't it.

Pours a pale amber colour, not too crystal clear, which is good for a malt liquor. Head is also good for a malt liquor. It poured white and healthy and didn't entirely disappear. I think I even see some lace.
Smell is wet grains. Very old-school malt liquory, if that means anything to anybody.
Mouthfeel is light and VERY high carbonation.
Taste is disappointing after the decent appearance and delicious malt liquor smell. That old-school malt liquor taste is there, but it's really quite light. It just tastes like high carbonation and stale grains, mostly. Oh well. I'd say it's an average malt liquor: boring, but not offensive like some of the newer, higher alcohol malt liquors. I won't buy it again when Olde English and Schlitz O.M.L. are easily attainable and far superior.

Pours a light tan with a fair amount of carbonation. Head stays around for most of the glass, then leaves some of the foamy stuff on the side of the glass. Taste is almost bright (clean) hardly any over sweetness or over hoped. Magnum 40 is a good ripping beer, if you want to get ripped and not get ripped off in price, (mine came at $1.23 for the 40oz in a clear glass bottle, and no skunk), this would be the beer.

All in all, I would recommend Miller Magnum 40 to anyone who asked.

Now this is odd, I still have a lump of foam floating in the bottom of my glass (after a few repours) and all the beer is gone! How can this be... I swear to you... this beer has the foamies.

I can’t get the foam to go away... AHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

Plop!

Break Break, Crystal Palace, this is Drop Kick, we have a mass of beer foam headed towards Omaha, NE...

Magnum really isn't that bad, because it really doesn't have that much flavor. Smell and taste are fleeting, and the color is about what you would expect out of a beer called Magnum 40. The mouth feel is pretty good and when ice cold very easy to drink.
