Drank from a glass 40 ounce bottle. Scores and review are based within the style.

Look - By far my favorite of the malt liquor bottles. The green glass, simple label, and hornet mascot all comes together in a quite appealing package. However, the green glass does stop the drinker from getting a good view of the liquid inside, which might be seen as a good thing to some.

Smell - No offensive notes, and even has a bit of life and character. Some hints of wet grass, fresh sweetcorn, a bit of smoked meat maybe? All the smells are fairly faint, but nonetheless, they are there.

Taste - Surprisingly good. Has the typical malt liquor sweetness, but it is cut and balanced with a healthy bit of bitterness. More in league with the adjunct lagers.

Feel - The carbonation was a bit much. It made me very burpy and left a nice tower of foam in my bottle every time I took a sip.

Overall - Much better than other malt liquors I've tried. Almost like a beer that wasn't good enough for AAL status but overshoots the malt liquor category.

Sadly I can only find the 24oz cans here in Waco, so no cool puzzles or grenades for me.

Mickey's is the one malt liquor you don't immediately associate with the dude with the revoked license toting home a case on Friday night. Something about it retains an air of class. Maybe it's the minimalistic can with almost no information on it, not even the ABV. As it's weaker than its brethren, Mickey's makes a good chill drink rather than just something to get smashed off of super fast. The taste and feel is malty and syrupy, almost as if the liquid itself feels thicker than average. This is one I still pick up every now and then as it's very cheap and has a nice taste. Overall, Mickey's is humble and doesn't oversell itself, and is worth a try.

One of the better malt liquors.

A dark yellow color, not as dark as some malt liquors. Not much head or lacing.

Not much of a smell, same as other malt liquors but not as corny.

Taste follows the smell. Not too sweet. Closer to an standard adjunct lager in taste. Some corn and malt flavor. No noticeable alcohol since it's a 5.6 ABV. Slight hop flavor.

It's still syrupy like most malt liquors but not as much as some others, especially the higher ABV ones.

Overall very good for what it is. The 12 oz bottles have an interesting shape.

45 minutes in the freezer before drinking this 40oz down, i crack the lid on this frosty baby and it's ready to drink, no fizz rises to the top it's just saying cmon drink me .
i drink it a harsh taste turns into a cold pleasant taste like coors and bud light and hits you hard like a steel reserve. feeling the buzz and drank 3 pulls and im already feeling the buzz of 3 cans of coors light. Okay! for my money $3.57 plus tax not bad. hasnt even reached the label yet. what a value!! already feeling it and not even 1 minute in!! so i set the drink down do what a want and take measured sips and increase the throttle towards the end. feeling stupid drunk but functional not sloppy but sharp and happy . it's worth the money it's worth the price. party in a bottle. the aftertaste is clean and light. the buzz is nice and elevated like i drank a shot of whiskey. music is great to listen to . this drink gives me patience, which i need in this day and age. put on some foreigner. put on some van halen. you know. im drunk already as im writing this. anyways mickeys never lets you down. mickeys forever.

American Malt Liquor. Corn meets apple overtones, with some slightly malty biscuit note, meets some sugary notes. Very weak head, with thin lacing and very weak retention. Competent, cheap gets you drunk in a hurry. Don't drink it when warm, gets ugly in a hurry. Good when cold for malt liquor, I rank it below Olde English 800 or Colt 45, but better than Steel Reserve or King Cobra. Reserve for when you're low on money and just want to get plastered.

One of the better malt liquors, if that's saying anything. I remember when the wide-mouths had a cool pull tab, over twenty-five years ago. Still like the wide-mouths, as the cans are not available around here anymore.

Mickey’s Malt Liquor Big Mouth - A surprise find at Camp Stanley PX, and at 2.80/6 pack amazing bargain. Very satisfying after a day of not so hard work but a sweaty, thirst inducing walk up the hill. The aroma, well, it’s a malt liquor. Corn adjuncts dominate, but reminds of home a bit. No sign of malt liquor in a while, and not a lot of malt in this, despite being the first word in the style description. Kind of bad tasting, like you are ok inflicting self harm. The strength quickly washes that away, and alcoholic bliss starts settling over the hunger pangs, replacing itself over the need to eat. My primary urge is now to buy another six of these and skip dinner. This is the mass produced commercial indica of beers. I should downshift back to Bud or i’m gonna be too high to play softball or call home tonight. The caps have rebus puzzles on em, and not the same ones as Lone Star or Ballantine. They are a bit easier, and I like how they are on larger caps so easy to read. I’m gonna bring em down the the ball field tonight and get everyone turned on to em. Kind of sweet like vanilla. Creamy, sugary, catchy, very smooth. Like someone in a leather sport coat selling car stereos.

Recently was dared to review a King Cobra. Actually did not know that Malt Liquor was reviewable on Beer Advocate. Once I looked it up and saw I was, had to go with it. Once I saw that there were seven (seven!) other Malt Liquors at the next-door market, made it a point to review one each Tuesday until I run out. Typically am against all the big boy beers, but I am breaking that rule for this challenge. Next up was Mickey’s Fine Malt Liquor, which is only rated as the 68th-worst beer. Not too bad. King Cobra and Old English 800 were both in the bottom 30. Still was not expecting much.

Poured a pale-to-gold clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of off-white frothy head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Outstanding sporadic foamy lacing. Decent retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smell reminded me of an American Adjunct Lager, specifically a PBR. Got corn, apple, pear, honey, grain, skunky malts, scrambled eggs, wet grass and green grape. Really smooth on the nose for a malt liquor. (Smell - 3.75)

Wow. Not too bad on the taste. Certainly not as bad as King Cobra or Old English. First taste was the best (like the others), but it did not drop off as much as the other two. Specifically got apple, pear, green grapes, corn, grain, honey, hints of scrambled eggs and grassy malts. (Taste - 4.00)

Light body. Thin texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.75)

Pleasantly surprised overall. For sure the best American Malt Liquor I’ve reviewed. Very good. (Overall - 4.00)

Served cold: Transferred from the fridge and into the freezer for 30 minutes

Look: Poured into a tulip glass, clear golden color, 1/2 finger of white head and streaming carbonation that ends quickly.

Smell: Hard to describe, very light smell typical of a lager, a little bit of wang but not offensive.

Taste: Light grainy is the best I can detect, mild sweet. neutral but pleasant. Clean aftertaste. Green bottle, but no skunk.

Feel: Crisp, good carbonation, a dry bite in the finish. Body is light but not annoyingly watery as I find a light beer can be.

Pairs most excellent with Cabot's Smokey Bacon White Cheddar Cheese and Popeye's

Overall: Fine as Vida G's backside, ok maybe that's alcohol talking.

Excellent American lager, not big on flavor, but the satisfaction comes from the feel, the crisp, the dry, the carbonation, which all equals easy drinking.
