i love this brewery, and in colorado, and i believe across the states, we rarely see their stuff, especially beyond the staples, so it was a treat to encounter this one on tap. its gorgeous too, pushing up three inches of white head here, lasting and airy, on top of a straw colored base with some haze, muted and slightly dull looking, but active and refined as well, very pretty, understated and explosive at the same time. i smell the juniper from the gin right away in the nose, its herbaceous and somewhat pungent, with subtle spruce and sage notes to it, autumnal to me, and nice with the wood here thats also quite evident. its not over the top, but i smell a little less of their yeast that i like so much because of the barrel treatment, which is a negative in my opinion, but i am excited to taste it. the gin is surprisingly well integrated, more balanced through the beer than it smells like it is, and i still get the white wheat graininess here, as well as the gentle yeast, which exhibits notes of golden raisin, ripe white currant, and white pepper. the juniper aspect actually works really well with it, sort of freshening it up and complimenting its botanical aspects. i get some wine notes here too, especially with the oak in the finish, tannic and a touch sweet but only for a second. epic carbonation here, this one really zings on the palate. a really cool mix of flavors, we dont see many gin barrel aged beers coming out of belgium, i thought this was unique and delicious, as good as the original.

No head, orange color. Both the gin and Pinot barrels come through nicely and compliment each other well. Pleasant acidity.

Enjoyed at the Armsby Abby and poured into a tulip.

A - Poured a light straw hue with a fluffy white two finger head that leaves a nice sticky dude lacing and wonderful retention. Excellent.

S - Aromas of gentle funky saison, light barnyard notes, wonderful gin barrel super floral notes that only a botanical gin can lend. Nice pinot notes that lends a fruity perspective.

T - Taste is lightly funky with gentle saison notes, the barrel notes are pleasant with sweet pinot noir grapes then wham gin barrel! Floral, fragrant botanicals, just delicious.

M - Mouthfeel is very light considering the barrels.

O - Overall I was happily impressed by this beer. Love the gin barrel and what it bruins to the table.

Type: 22oz. Bomber -Counter Pressure Filled @ Bierkraft
Vintage: 2013
Glass: Southampton Tulip

Was going to put this 22oz. expensive counter pressure filled bomber from Bierkraft up for trade, as it is not my style of choice, sure glad I did not.

Pours a golden straw in color w/ a 1 finger white head that left nice sticky lingering lacing. Aromas of fresh cut hay, citrus fruits, ginger-ale, dark fruit, and breadiness. The flavor was of breadiness and tart citrus fruits up front, leading into ginger-ale, and finishing w/ red wine dark fruit dryness. Clean and crisp w/ lingering flavor. I almost polished off the entire bomber before I was even done writing the review if that tells you a bit about the drink ability.

Overall, awesome stuff! I am not even a saison guy and I would love to drink this one again. The barrel treatments were perfect and you could taste a clear separation between the gin barrel characteristics and the Pinot Noir ones.

App- A bit of liquid gold in the glass with a fairly see through yellow color. A small 1/4-1/2 inch head with some amazing cling down the glass. Just a great looking beer. Only knock is the missing Saison haze.

Smell- When this arrived I was very excited about the aging. It had huge Gin notes. I can't really say what makes a gin nose, but if you've smelled gin you know. Trace tannic notes with a good wheat base and a touch of citrus.

Taste- I love a good saison. This was great. Strong barrel notes and then a great base flavor come out. Take the greatness of Fantome and add the treatment to it. Earth and damp with a small grainular citrus note.

Mouth- On each recurring sip it gets a bit more dry but the gin booze and wine tannic make each sip good. Not great. A small light/medium body with a medium carbonation. Residual gin and oak.

Drink- I loved this beer! It was layered and creative and blended so well. Great depth of flavor with a tempered hand. Would love a few bottles. One can dream.

Growler into a Duvel tulip. Big thanks to Dan for sharing this crazy rarity.

A: Clear gold body, fine white head. Nice lace. Good.

S: Spicy, fruity, and vinous. Very fresh, piquant, and aromatic.

T: Follows the nose - spiciness, peppery fruity, and some smooth malt sweetness on the predominantly dry, slightly fruity, almost funky finish. Tasty, but I expected more from the barrels.

M: Light-bodied and lively. Creamy and great.

O: This was a great Saison, but based on the crazy description (Gin and Pinot Noir barrels?) I really expected a more distinctive beer.

Cheers!
