Visited Upstream over the weekend in Omaha to specifically their down town location. Sampled their seasonal Blueberry Wheat on tap. The beer came with a blueberry inside the beer. I’ve see oranges and lemon wedges before but a blueberry? Ok it’s a theme, run with it. The color was a dirty blond yellow color with a slightly cloudy color but mostly clear. Held up to the light it had a slight pink glow to it. The head retention was good as was the lacing but both were gone by the end of the drink.

The smell was light. Which is common in wheat’s but the blueberry was not really present. You really had to look for it. I guess I expected more blueberries but the wheat was detectable and good. The taste was similar. Not really much of the blueberry flavor but the wheat had a good taste to it. There also was a slight zing at the end. Maybe from the combo of the citrus fruit or the bittering hops. The fell was of a higher carbonation and gave if a fuzzy feel.

The body was light to medium and the beer was enjoyable. I would liked more of the blueberry flavor and less of the hops.

This was the late-summer seasonal available at the Upstream before the Oktoberfest is rolled out. Served with about a half dozen blueberries floating atop the beer. Surprisingly the head held up all the while even with the fruit.

The beer was a clear light golden color with a thick white foam, and of course, the blueberries that would constantly submerge and resurface with a healthy carbonation spewing forth. This is quite interesting. I usually don't like fruit in my beer, but this was new, and made for a nice treat at the bottom of the glass.

The smell was only slightly afflicted with blueberry. It smelled like a typical american blonde ale with the light berriness aside.

The taste was good. Very refreshing, and helped cool off the fieriness of the wings after our appetizers arrived (holy hell those fuckers are hot!). The comparison to an american blond still holds true in the taste, but the berries are also there. The floaties don't seem to have much of an effect on the flavor; however, when consumed throughout the course of the beer, they seem to add a lot of lingering flavor that goes well with the beer, enhancing the slight blueberry flavor already imparted into the beer.

The mouthfeel is light and thin, quite watery, but this was a light fruity beer and wasn't expected to be chewy and delicious. This seasonal would probably be better during the full-swing of summer as opposed to the starting-to-get-chilly late-summer. That being said, it was an enjoyable beer.
