Style: Vienna Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Vienna style Red Lager is deep garnet in color and pours with a thick and creamy head. It has a fruity yet low hop aroma to deliver a smooth, delicate palate that is rich with subtle hints of toffee and light caramel. This is a beer that even a light beer drinker is sure to enjoy.

Official info says it's a German lager hopped like a British esb. Sounds interesting so let's give it a spin.

The beer is a nice golden pale with less than a finger of head that leaves a frothy lace.
I'm not picking up much in the nose some malt.
Tatse is malty with a dry bitter finish. Not much hops. Balanced but it leaves me wanting a crisper snappier finish. The menu states 34 IBUs(similiar to SNPA), I don't get that much out of it.
I would expect a beer called Firecracker to pack a bigger bang. A bit of a letdown.

I think they accomplished the goal they set out to I just don't think it works well for me.

A very nice lager. Nice summer quaffer.

In the glass, it is clear ruby red colour with a thin cream coloured head. Little lace.

Nose is warm with hints of dried fruit and malt.

Taste was light with flavours of subtle carmel and toffee.

Nice round mouthfeel. Went well with Mac and Cheese.

A: Brilliant gold with a small and fizzy white head that has poor retention. Leaves a nice lace.

S: Quite sweet. The sweet barley is joined by a mild lemongrass scent.

T: Crisp and clean. Sweet barley flavors get things going. Bitterness is mild, but well balanced against the malt. It adds a lemon kick, plus a very faint bit of pepper. Finishes clean and dry.

M: The body is slightly grainy and displays just the right amount of fizz.

D: This is a decent little beer. It's not Daring by any stretch, but does a nice job of being light and refreshing. A nice summertime offering.

nice and hoppy for a red lager, easy drinking, a little plain. this pours a perfectly clear pale red color with a small and fading white head. the nose is dry red malt and pine sap hops, bitter and a little sweet at the same time. the flavor is identical to the nose, and the lager yeast becomes obvious, adding its usual sliced bread essence to the hoppy finish, an excellent combination. less sweet than most Vienna lagers, I appreciate the style variation with a little more hop going on. this needs more carbonation, its biggest weakness, but it drinks light for a red beer. the finish is clean but not as dry as is smells like its going to be. overall a decent but slightly boring brew, not the best you can do at upstream, who makes some really cool stuff.
