Sunday afternoon brunch after an enduring, but memorable ABF weekend. We've been here before, pre & post fest over the last year, so I think I've seen enough both good & bad to finally lay down a few words.
First off, the waitstaff that works on the weekends put miles into their shoes. Always filling water, keeping the taco bar stocked, & making sure everyone is taken care of. The bar staff has it relatively easy then, but all that changes come sundown.
At night, once the crowd doubles & triples in size, & you have a wait just to sit at the bar, it can get a little trying. I remember probably my second time here, coming in about twenty five before last call for something to top me off, & being politely brushed over till they did close the taps. The guy was working hard, but if he could take 5 seconds to tell me he'll be back, take a few more & let me get my beer order in.
The decor is a mix of old & new. Vintage beer coasters, vinyl booths, Howard Johnson style dining tables, lots of big screens, & too much neon lighting. The tall windows let in a lot of natural light during the day, & really soften things up for the better.
Selection at first seems rather imposing, but you settle down on basically a handful of things you haven't had before, then break it down even further when the cask runs out & your first three choices are dry. You basically end up ordering something in your comfort zone like DFH 90(5.99 tulip), or Radeberger Pilsner($3.99 pint). You might get lucky & even manage to find something you might enjoy, like the Atwater Vanilla Java Porter($5.99 tulip) or some Avery 15($4.99 tulip) which I probably enjoyed a little more. Some treats show up from time to time, but aren't doorbusters(around $7.99 for a half pour of Triticus, DFH120 for a buck cheaper).
On the food side, I'm never really sure. Prices are alright, & the last time I was there, the taco bar was very good. Most of the beer ice creams are awesome, & the apple pie I had in September was probably the best I've ever had, since it was served with a dollop of their pumpkin porter & sprinkled with cranberries & powdered sugar. :) Everything else though, seems to either be off in texture, or just not quite what I was expecting. Portions are great, & wait times are never bad for food. Never experienced anything off at the bar or in my plate, but I can see where the speculation comes from since they're dealing with probably miles of lines to clean.
Definitely a place to hit if your in the area & haven't yet been. Deep Ellum is pretty close by, but save that trip for later. Lunch just seems a little more comfortable here. Your money goes a little farther here too. :)

They have a big tap list . . . but no top end beers. My stomach is still fuct up from the food 3+ hrs later. I would recommend Lulu's instead if you're in the area

Went here maybe 2 months ago & was impressed by the huge draft list. However, literally the first 5 beers I ordered from it they had "just run out of." Food was pretty solid though.
