Notes / Commercial Description:
The brew is an energetically hopped lager with a notable wheat component. It taps into a current of hop-forward Sixpoint beers, while remaining a distinct Mad Scientists formulation. A - Amber as all get out. Beautiful lacing and the head was more pillowy than I expected it to be.

S - The nose was so extreme that my friends and I noticed it as the bartender handed it to me. Strong hoppiness, a bit of citrus, but not too much.

T - The nose translated very well to the palate with this one. Strong and smooth citrus, with some great pine notes.

M - Effervescent, but exactly the right amount. I normally don't go for a lager, but this one truly was quenching, both for my thirst and my palate. The finish was clean with little oppressive bitterness.

O - Absolutely impressed by this one from Sixpoint. Honestly, this is better than Resin IMO. If there is a bar near you getting a keg, definitely hop over there and grab a pint, you will not regret it.

The beer comes in a deep gold to pale amber, crystal clear.

The aroma is quite juicy with peach candy, ripe grapefruit, a touch of dank pine, candy sugar sweetness, bready malts, a bit of cat pee.

The flavor follows with that juicy quality upfront, more peach ring and candy sweetness, mango, pineapple, grapefruit bitterness as a baseline bitterness, onto some spicy hops, and a piney bitterness lingering on the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium with a combination of light caramel sweetness along with chewy bread.

A fully aromatic IPL that has a clean mix of hops and malt along with crisp lager finish to achieve an ultimately well executed "IPA."

Pours an effervescent honey color with 2 fingers of ivory head. Good head retention & better lacing

S: Bready, pear, grapefruit

T: Bready, grapefruitty, a little piney dryness & a little crackeryness up front. Dryness, grapefruit, pear, lemon & grassiness as this warms, astringency/soapiness creeping in. Finishes bready, crisp, dry & grainy

MF: Medium body, lively carbonation

Drinks fairly easy for the style, one of the better takes on the style for sure

L: Pours out a pale straw color, but looks light amber in the glass. Slightly hazy, but translucent, with a finger of bubbly white head that dies down into a thin sticky ring that leaves plentiful lacing.

S: Sweet citrus and lightly sweet malt. Juicy pink grapefruit, pithy orange, hints of mango and guava, toasty and somewhat caramelly sweet malt, then earthy with some pine.

T: Grapefruit and orange pith, hints of lemon, well-balanced with lightly toasted biscuit malt flavor. The malt is less sweet than the nose would indicate, which I like. Finishes a decent amount of bitterness, strong grapefruit pith, green tea, light pine.

M: Medium, medium carbonation, smooth and slick, oily, quite creamy.

O: Another solid offering from the folks at Sixpoint. A nice of punch of hops, with excellent drinkability.

L (4) - Light amber/dark straw colored beer. Crystal clear, though. Decent coarse head on top
S (4.5) - Smells GREAT! More of a floral or piney aroma than citrus. Intriguing for sure.
T (4) - Tastes very good. Light on the malt, and packs a hop punch. A little bitterness that kinda hangs around on the end.
F (4) - Smooth, easy drinking beer. Seems plenty carbonated, but about what you'd expect here.
O (4) - I really liked this one. Not too familiar with this style, but I feel that Sixpoint did it justice.

A: Pours a clear deep amber in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate honey orange + deep golden yellow colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense sudsy foamy light beige head that reduces to a few small to medium sized patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of floral, grassy, and citrus/orange zest hops over the top of moderate aromas of toasted, doughy, and wheat malts with hints of honey sweetness.

T: Moderate flavors of toasted, doughy, and wheat malts with hints of honey sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of floral, grassy, and citrus/orange zest hops which imparts a moderate amount of harsh bitterness which slowly fades away leaving a clean finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Chewy with a clean finish.

O: Enjoyable with a nice combonation of doughy malts and harsh bitter hops. Drinks pretty easily with well hidden alcohol.

I am off today since I am primarily in Receiving and nothing is being delivered today by any of the carriers. That's fine by me since I have the NHL Winter Classic on TV and beer to be drank & reviewed. Next up is another CAN from the Mad Scientists at Sixpoint Brewery to further The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "Beer Is Culture"; " ... It was said that Tesla would visualize fully functioning inventions in his mind before setting pen to paper. To start with a realized formulation in the mind's eye - see it, smell it, and taste it, then harness the right materials to create it? Now that's Mad Science."; "Formulated by the Mad Scientists. Sixpoint Brewery, Brooklyn, New York'"; "This Lager was charged with fresh hops."

I love these Slimline CANs! Sleek, easier to store & the Crack! is always loud. I followed mine with an inverted Glug to produce two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, French Vanilla-colored head with good retention. The Mad Scientists identified the color as Amber (SRM = 9) so I will go with that, plus NE-quality clarity. Nose had a lemony-grapefruit citrusy bitterness & my mouth was watering (49 IBUs). Mouthfeel had an interesting creaminess, which was kind of unexpected in the style. The taste was bitter and very citrusy, good in my hophead eyes, but perhaps not for everyone. I liked the intense bitterness of the hops and as usual, I was very heartened by its appearance in a CAN. Finish was dry, citrusy, bitter and pretty intense for the style. Well done!

From the bottom of the can: "BB18FEB2017 1044"

Appearance: It has a light bronze body with good clarity. The head is very thick and it has a nice soft rocky appearance. Perfect head retention and lacing.

Aroma: It smells like fresh hops. there is this distinct hop resin aroma that has a bit of a rye smell to it. It smells like the outside of a hop bine.

Taste: It tastes very similar to how it smells. There is this orange pith bitterness and a bit of an onion and garlic hop flavor to it. There is a very light minty aftertaste. After drinking it for a while I did start to pick up a bit of a butter flavor.

Mouthfeel: It has a light mouthfeel. It has enough bitterness that you notice it but it isn't strong, leaving it right in the middle. It is a very drinkable beer. While it is good it didn't feel that crisp.

Overall: I liked the beer and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys hoppy beers. It is a more hop focused beer in the sense that it really didn't have any malt flavor at all. It did start to get a bit buttery the more I drank it but it was so far in the background that the hops masked most of it. The drinking experience was good and I would drink it again if I can get it as fresh as I did (5 months and 2 weeks before the "BB" date).

This beer pours gold with a medium head. The aroma offers up huge citrus, orange, lemon, and grapefruit, with manog and bell pepper. The flavor has burnt orange, mango, pineapple, lemon zest, and mandarin orange flesh. The mouthfeel is crisp and light, with some sweetness on the finish. Overall this is a full flavored but crisp beer. Very nice!

Pours slightly foggy gold with a creamy frothy white foam head. Smells like blueberry, grapes, sweet pear, apple, some caramelized malt, butterscotch, orange citrus, grapefruit, with spicy floral earthy grass and dank herbal pine. Tastes like blueberry, grape, pear, apple, dank bitter herbal pine, some caramelized bready malt, butterscotch, orange citrus, grapefruit, with spicy floral earthy grass. Feels light bodied, crisp and smooth with moderate low carbonation. Overall a nice hoppy lager.

Pours from the can into a pilsner a clear rich golden with a large fluffy white head that leaves broken rings of lace as it settles slowly.Fresh cut grass and floral aromas, with a light nutty malt component underneath.Flavors start citric and grassy then a hefty mildly sweet pizza dough note comes into play making for a nice complete flover profile.I like the 'bigger' lagers and imperial pilsner's because of the big doughy malt base and this has that to go along with the brash hops.

Pours gold, decent head that fades slowly but does fade. Carbonation is mesmerizing.
Aroma is back and forth between sweet hops and sweet malt (I am sitting in 20mph wind doing this).
Mild pepper front, mild malt back. Carbonation is maybe a little too high.
Okay beer but not a show stopper.

12 oz slim can with best before dating on the bottom.

Pours near clear, typical amber under a tall lite tan cap, that is staying nicely. Leaves nice fine sheets of fine lacing.

Herbal hop nose with some tea, pine, and lime

Tasty brew with more of the same notes as above, tea and lime coming to mind most strongly.

Worthy and boldly flavored and hopped lager. Well done

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a bright amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid finger of white head which settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A juicy and bready aroma with a scent of citrus and biscuit. Citrus hop scent of grapefruit, orange, lemon, and pineapple. Earthy hop hints of grass and pine. Malt scent of wheat, biscuit, grains, caramel, and cracker with lager yeast. A very solid balanced aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and bready taste with notes of citrus and biscuit. Citrus hop notes of orange, grapefruit, and lemon along with pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Good malt notes of wheat, biscuit, caramel, grains, and cracker along with some lager yeast. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, crisp, and smooth with a drying finish.

Overall: A very good hopped up lager. Big juicy hop presence with a good bready wheat malt balance.

Tall 12 oz can.
BB date of February 2017.
Amber body topped by a durable and very creamy bone colored head.
This is a very hoppy lager with moderate-high bitterness. Drinks like a light bodied IPA.

Best before date of Feb 18, 2017

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and golden yellow in color with an off-white, finger width head. Fair retention before dissipating to a thin, broken layer of suds. Decent lacing, with broken webbing and some spotting.

Smell - Aroma is hoppy, with slightly lemony, slightly grassy character. Wheaty malt undertone.

Taste - Follows the nose. Hops are prominent, with a grassy and citrus punch. Malts deliver a mildly bready sweetness upfront, then some wheaty notes near the finish. Aftertaste lingers with grassy and lemon pith bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Light-bodied with moderate carbonation. Crisp, dry finish.

Overall - Well made brew, but it doesn't suit my tastes. Too grassy and wheaty for me.
