Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass.
A very nice deep mahogany red color, quite uniform throughout with little rising carbonation, but also quite clear as well. Off tan to yellow like head, almost white in appearance with soapy and shampoo retention. Very good size four finger tall appearance for the head, with lots of pilled and bubbled lacing around the glass.
Interesting bouquet for a porter. Hop driven a sense of mild citrus and perhaps some tropical notes. Mild sense of dark chocolate with a bit of charring roast that comes out a bit. Interesting sweet tones as well, quite a bit different, but still very enjoyable.
Palate definitely hints towards the fruit tones. A much different porter quality going on here. Mid palate is a bit quiet then comes with a fruity grapefruit and orange quality, but quite mellow. Aftertaste then brings a real nice rush of charring roast and mellow chocolate. Airy hops open up on the finish as well hitting an almost woody character as well, showing off some decent porter distinction. There is a real nice bounce and play to this beer, as unbalanced in character the flavors move around a bit. Mouthfeel has some density but it's also a bit flat and barely carbonated it seems, but it still works out to translate the beers taste.
Concludes with just a solid real unique take on a porter, that I actually a bit fun.

Look: A very dark reddish amber color, with a generous tan head that leaves good lacing
Smell: Grapefruit hops up front and in your face. Some dark roasty malts in there as well
Taste: More grapefruit hops in there, with roasty malt bitterness in the background. Some caramel and chocolate malts too
Feel: Light body, full carbonation
Overall: Very delicious and refreshing. I always like porters and stouts for winter, and this is a very drinkable porter, which is great change of pace. It is a very good beer even with taking a few latitudes with the style.

Skinny Sixpoint can
Chocolate on the nose, typical porter presentation,
Bold and flavorful, with more chocolate, mild cafe au lait and nuts. Dry and moderately hoppy towards the rear.
Well crafted, easy drinking and all together better then darn good

Very clear, dark nut brown brew, topped with a sizable, fluffy, cream-colored head. Very good retention, and thick cloud-like fluffy lacing.
Tons of dark fruit in the aroma; roasted barley; a bit of a cola aspect. Some yeast presence; a clean, peppery and earthy hop presence; noticeable caramel malt, giving it a sweet, almost Vienna lager-like representation. Not what I expect from a porter, but not at all unpleasant.
Flavor follows, in all the odd directions. Is this a hoppy Vienna lager(ale)? Is it a fruity, light brown ale? I don't get porter, that's for sure. Caramel and dark bread malt profile; fruity yeast; a big of sugar with just a tinge of brown sugar to it; earthy, slightly spicy hops carrying more bitterness than flavor.
Very lively brew without too much sting; medium to medium-light feel with an oily hop residue (and lingering bitterness); balanced erring on the side of bitterness; easy to drink.
I really don't know what to think of this beer. I love Sixpoint, and I appreciate their creativity. I would not grab this if I wanted a Porter, though. A nice brew to accompany lunch or dinner? Definitely. It's full of flavor and very drinkable, but not what I would want for a porter.

On tap at Rattle-N-Hum in NYC: Pours clear mahogany color with a small tan head that faded slowly and left great foamy lacing and rings as it went down.
Smells of citrus hops, roasted malts, oats, cocoa powder and coffee grinds; not your typical porter nose, but nice and hoppy with good roast notes.
Tastes of floral hops, roasted malts, caramel, toasted oats, cocoa powder, coffee grinds, brown sugar, charred wood and tea leaf or herbs; not your typical porter taste either, but still tasty as the lightness of the brew diverts your attention from the fact the it's very un-porter like.
Mouthfeel is light and watery, with mild carbonation, a light body and a slightly bitter malty aftertaste. Overall a good beer but definitely not what I expected since I thought it would be dense and deep with rich malty notes, but Sixpoint kept this brew lighter and hoppy.

Was really looking forward to trying this and finally found a couple cans at the bottle shop. Poured from a slender 12oz can into a tulip. The brew pours looking like cola brown with ruby clarity and a tan cap several fingers tall that fades leaving patchy lace.
The smell includes notes of caramel malt, slight nuttiness, roast and citrus hops that get slightly floral and fruity as it warms up.
The taste is a bit tin-like with minerals, carbonics, herbal hops slight fruity alcohol, caramel malt and a bit of nutty character. In the finish it is fairly bitter and warming.
This is medium to light bodied with a moderate to high amount of carbonation. I have no idea what they were going for with this but ill never buy it again. I feel completely stupid for falling for their marketing and paying $3 for a slender can of forgettable blah.

Definitely a porter for hopheads. The citrusy nose and taste really throws you off based on the look of the beer. There is a slight amount of roast that may fall short for porter fanatics. Overall interesting and tasty.

I am a huge Sixpoint fan. And I love a good porter. Calling something an American style allows great latitude in how the style is interpreted, but this one strays in unfavorable ways.
It looks like a great porter. The aroma is strangely hoppy and grassy. This permeates the taste too. The malts are overwhelmed and any roastiness is subverted. It is too bitter. The aftertaste is more like a porter.
This is probably my least favorite from this brewer and it is not recommended.

Best by 7/9/2015. Served in a snifter 2/14/2015.
A- Dark caramel-brown body, reasonably dark with a one finger offwhite head with good, effervescent film and lacing. Good retention.
S- Smells hoppy as hell. Slightly metallic, with a mild burnt barley and roast aroma, a lot of pine. Bready biscuits, kind of like a pilsner. I'm not sure that all of it works, but it is certainly a surprise.
F- Piney, bitter resin. Grassiness. Lots of it. Mild roast, lots of bread and grain. As in the nose, the malt backbone kind of tastes like a pilsner. Don't know what to make of it, it's very weird and certainly not a typical porter. It's much more of a black IPA.
M- Thinner bodied, not watery but a bit thin. Bitter as hell, pine-forward bitterness mixes in with a bready sweetness.
O- Weird beer, but if you think of it as a west coast style Black IPA, I think it works. However, it doesn't work for me either way.

absolutely love this beer! again thanks to @sixpoint for debuting this beauty right her on BA first. look is a nice deep brown, very enticing. smells like hops and malt got married and had a mutt baby that can be easily be a best in show. tastes like exactly what i hoped for with a nice floral hop character and a solid but not overwhelming malty backbone. Finishes with a nice smooth, yet subtle, sweetness that rocks the palate and blows the mind.
I really think sixpoint knocked one out of the park with this one, and they are one more good reason to love new york. i really look forward to more of their innovations in classic styles

The hop profile really makes this brew unique. Delicious, drinkable, nutty, and complex. Highly recommended!
Update: it also holds up very well. I just had another on 7/20/15, and while the hops have faded, a tasty porter remains!

Pretty stoked to get my hands on this. I'm a big stout\porter\dubbel\black lager\scottish ale\anything malty pretty much fan.
Was expecting a traditional porter done with a twist (Its Sixpoint afterall).
Appearance is a dark ruby\very dark copper not the opaqueness one associates with most Porters.
Aroma sort of stopped me in the tracks. Citrus, sweet lemon, fresh hops on the nose. Not the run-of-the mill toasty\chocolatey\roasty malts one expects from a Porter. This was great, very refreshing. Not at all what I was expecting, in a good way.
The taste starts off with a slight hop kick (very slight) and instantly drives into sweetish territory, roasted malts\chocolate malt-ish but very faint sweetness, the slight hop presence lingers throughout the taste experience. The finish has a "I want some moe" dryness which instantly made me sip some moe.
Mouthfeel is on the light side. This is not a big beer by any stretch of the imagination but at 6.4% you expect a little more from a porter. Having said that the mouthfeel is akin to a schwarzbier which this beer could easily be labelled as.
Overall I think this is more of a Schwarzbier meets brown ale meets Porter but who cares about nailing a style?! Back in the day (1700's-1800's) Porters that were had by actual English Porters were more similar to look and feel to this than the average Porter we find at our favorite bottleshop. This is what makes this one special and Sixpoint in general a unique brewery. The historical context needs to be taken into account when judging this brew. Another winner by Shane and his crew.
