The Mad Scientists walked through an ancient bazaar, sniffing out ingredients for their next formulation. The stalls were buzzing with activity as exotic spice vendors promoted their fragrant wares. But what ingredient would make the fabled 5th bean? The enticing aroma of an oily, smoky pod – black cardamom – caught their attention. Now that would turn the Imperial to Bazaar...

Had this at a tiny, reservation only restaurant in a former house in a residential neighborhood, called "Tess". This place in Milwaukee is highly recommended. Surprising that a restaurant in Milwaukee would have a beer on tap from Brooklyn!
Light tan, thin head. Brown so dark, it appears to be black, with no light transmission. Dark roasted grain and just the slightest hint of the adjuncts. Taste is medium light and smooth with the dark roast grain flavors prevailing and finishing that way. The adjuncts are in the background for sure, but are adding complexity. Really nice.

12 oz can from the Wall of Beer (SC; $3.49) with an October 2018 canning date. Stored under refrigeration until enjoyed while watching the US women win the 2019 World Cup.
This fine porter has a judicious mix of vanilla, cacao, coffee and cardamon within a fine base porter. The result is a complex aroma and a very harmonious flavor. The high ABV is partially apparent in the aroma but well hidden in tasting.
Overall: If it says "beans" and "Sixpoint", it's recommended, but this one more than some others.

Today is the ocCANsion of Sixpoint Me the Way to New Beer Sunday (Week 749). Even better, this is from a Slimline CAN in support of The CANQuest (tm)!
From the CAN: "If you’re tired of run-of-the-mill flavors, maybe some coffee and exotic spices will perk you up. We gathered 5BEANS from the bazaar to create a cultural phenomenon; a melting pot of cacao, vanilla, coffee, and cardamom creates our original Turkish inspired porter. It’s Mad Science."
Tired of looking at that old steel ingot just sitting in the kitchen window, gathering dust? Give us a call at the Monongahela Melting & Smelting Mill & we may able to send you a replacement at a low, low cost depending on the trade-in value of your existing ingot! Don't delay, call today!
The previous was a classic Bob (Elliott) & Ray (Goulding) with the former being Chris Elliott's dad. They were the caricatures of Piels' Bert 'n' Harry commercials & if you have never heard of them or heard some of their stuff, do yourself a favor & Google them! Hi-larious.
This was rather an older CAN so let me give you some background. It is actually my seCANd & on the day that I was ready to review it, it dropped on the floor & dented! 8=O I was really pissed until one of my trips to The Beer & Beverage Shoppe on Roseville Road where I found this replacement CAN on close-out special! 8=O Perfect. I beCAN with a Crack! of the vent, followed by a VERY slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It returned the favor by creating a pseudo-cascade that formed two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with moderate retention. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44), allowing cola highlights to be seen at the edges. Nose demonstrated the benefit(s) of in-CAN aging in that the coffee & spices had REALLY meshed to the point that it was hard to separate them. It smelled like the pot of coffee that we brewed with black gunpowder! No s**t, it was during GWi, we were on Day 32 of being underway & GMG1 decided to try something new & different. It was & so is this! I am currently recovering from a prostatectomy with inCANtinence & impotence as a result, but if anything CAN make my little soldier stand up at attention & render a salute, this might be it! Mouthfeel was thick, rich & creamy, like a dollop had been scooped into my mouth & onto my tongue. Mmm. The taste was all of it - smoky, spicy, coffee with a light vanilla sweetness. 8=O OMFG, this is SOOOO good! 10.0% ABV?!? Even better! It might just knock my d**k inna dirt, instead. This wavered on being a dessert beer, but that is imprecise. It would be better with a Maduro cigar as an after-dinner digestif. It would require that you like strong coffee & do not mind intense spices. I know - this with a pfeffernusse (German for "peppernut") cookie! Yum! & that Macanudo Maduro that you were saving for me. Yum yum! YMMV.

12 oz can. Pours black with tall, creamy, brown head and nice lacing. Aroma is of, toasted malt, dark fruit, spices and coffee. Body is full and smooth. Taste is of spices, toasted malt, coffee, vanilla, brown sugar, dark fruit and herbal hops. Finish is long and almost dry. Very nice porter.

-opaque, ebony can pour with a wisp of foam that disapated quickly. The aroma is coffee-forward. The flavor is distinctly toasted malt with espresso and some bourbon notes. This is a rich quaff, especially when on the warmer side. The high abv (10.4%) is detectable.

CAN
Garnet-black with a fleeing tan head that legs. 4
Cold coffee, some pepper, ash and rubber. 4
Baker’s chocolate, fig paste, char, treacle, coffee grounds, slight barrel-esque vanilla + woody spice. 4
Spearmint linger.
Med+, chewy, slight burn. 4
Not as thick as expected, and the ABV kills the head retention, so not a looker. Understated taste, too: the coffee jumps out, the cardamom is harder to place, and the vanilla + chocolate are only-coz-you-told-me elements. Body is porter-ish - not quite the full stout chew - so the heat jumps out more than it should. Puzzles more than delivers.
1 year plus on it, but still in date - what am I missing? 4

Loved 4beans, so was excited to see 5beans. Looks the same. Smell still stars the vanilla and chocolate, but the cardamom mutes some of the intensity a bit, fits the licorice aromas well though, weird with coffee. Taste is more clean but still has some clashing, feel like they had it figured out at 4beans and now this is a step too far. Feel has too much cutesy spice to it to really convince me it is a baltic porter anymore, but the vanilla saves it. Still good, but 4beans much better
