Very Good

Notes: Idaho 7 from Nate Jackson at Jackson Farms. El Dorado from Graham Gamache at Cornerstone Ranches. Amarillo from the Riehl’s at Double R Ranches. Galaxy from down under. These hops combine for a huge blast of complex hop character with juicy tropical notes, some candylike sweet aromas, stone fruit, and grapefruit. The aroma flies out of the glass.

Hazy gold with three fingers of cream color head. Rings and swathes of lace appear as the level drops.
Smell is green with sweet bread crust malts.
Taste is green fresh hops some minor pine. Plenty of sweet malts.
Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. The finish is dry and balanced.
Overall an easy drinking NEIPA.

Similar to their Smoothie release but with the lower alcohol the mouthfeel and overall taste is more of classic NE IPA. Big fruit and tropical flavors but the hops aren't lost in that. Such an easy drinking brew. I applaud Sixpoint, every small batch release has been great.

I'm a big fan of sixpoint and this beer was intensely disappointing. Very unbalanced flavor, metallic and sickly sweet. Smelled like yeast in a sweaty kind of way. Weird and underwhelming flavor profile with very little hop presence. I love hazy IPAs and I would not recommend this one at all, I actually just gagged trying to finish my glass.

Poured a yellow custard-like body with decent head and lace patches. Smells like citric and pineapple juice in the aroma. Smooth, acidic, bittersweet like pineapple juice with hint of mango sweetness. Perhaps the milk sugar and vanilla add to smoothness and the sweetness on the crisp finish but they are muted.

Back from downtown where I had a can-o-bliss and a crooked stave IPA. This is fitting in nicely. It may be just a little light on "richness or body" but is an easy drinking semi-full bodied NEIPA. Back from VT for about 2-3 weeks I'll follow up with either a Heady or Crusher. Sixpoint just needs to brew in a little more body/fullness and this one can move to a 4.7-4.8.

Poured from a can dated 7/3/19 into a tulip glass.

Murky light yellow color with good head and lacing. Fragrant citrus smell, orange and lime. Taste was nice and citrusy but a bit flat. Mouth feel was good and the beer was enjoyable but not he best of the NE style IPAs.

Tall can the bottom of which "canned 3 July 2019"

Heavily hazed up pour, leaving a lastng dense cap and then fine scattered lacing.

Soft tropicals on the nose with honey dew melon.

Smooth, tasty, tropical goodness with more ripe melon and mango. Worthy and well worth a try.

From the can dated 07/03/2019. Sampled on July 27, 2019.

Murky, milky looking pulpy yellow color with a modest, fading white head.

The aroma is subtle but I get esters of fruit, tropical fruit, and white bread.

Medium mouthfeel.

The taste begins sweet but the fruity bitterness takes over in short order and lingers on the palate at the finish.

Sixpoint Brewery "Hootie"
1 pint can, "CANNED 03 JUL 2019 BB 30 DEC 2019 0712 P" and sampled on 27 AUG 2019
$4.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: Well it's got the cloudy look to it! The golden body almost looks tan because of it. The head is a short lid of creamy white. Overall, pretty nice. The aroma offers a combination of hop resins, fruitiness, and pine. I'm not really picking any specific fruits out but I'd definitely call it tropical and citrusy. I feel like the aroma could be a little bit brighter, but I don't feel it's so limited that it should be knocked down for it - it's more just "could be". The flavor opens up a bit and now I'm getting pineapple, apple, orange, pink grapefruit, and peach. There's still a lot of hop resin to it, and mild but raspy pine. There's not a lot of bitterness to it, the label lists 5 IBUs, but there is some hop bite that makes it seem more bitter than just 5 IBUS. It finishes dry, without bitterness, but with that hop burn acidity, and some gently lingering fruitiness. The head dropped fairly quickly, which is interesting because it seems to have a good, zesty carbonation to it. I guess it's all of the hop oils. The lacing, of course, was limited as well. It's an interesting beer in that I've never had a NEIPA that was quite the same. It seems to perfectly straddle the "juicy" side of style and the more "dank" side of the style while never really going too full on either of those components. That, however, is not really a compliment, as that leaves it kind of middle of the road. It's good but it's not too exciting. It's perhaps too perfectly balanced? I don't know, maybe I'm just talking out my ass, but that's my honest impression. Which, also, is not to say it's bad, just that it's missing that certain something. To wrap up, it's medium bodied and gently effervescent and crisp with a fine-bubbled, seemingly natural carbonation that leaves it lightly zest and then smooth across the palate. I think this would be a great summer beer where it's hot and you're at an event and it doesn't really matter, but in a darkened pub on a slow night in September I'd probably get bored with it.
