English IPA, you say? Alright, well, I poured my bottle into an English pint glass, go figure.
The appearance was a sly ruddy but orange color with a small cap of a white foamy head. Slight lace here and there.
The aroma had a decent blend of dried biscuits, subtle floral, light soap (yet somewhat acceptable to me), dried cut grass and a little bit of earthy spice - black pepper? Maybe.
The flavor definitely leans into that off kilter way English IPA's tend to have with that sweet soapy, floral and crisp grassy taste that ends up drying with the malts in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a sly sipping quality about it. Sturdy carbonation and good ABV kept their pace with an exact pressure of the earthy spice strutting along my tongue - let's just say it's a nonchalent sort of subtlety of harshness on my tongue.
Overall, as an English IPA, it's hard to bust on since I have had enough exposure to the style but for inexperienced and American palates I can see why many think this is an awful beer. It's not. It's an English IPA.

A drinkable IPA, if a little unmemorable. Bitterness on the front and back end.
