if you are in pensacola, you need to stop by this store if you like belgium ales. The guys there were very helpful and let us try some cheeses that were excellent. We picked up several St.bernardus's, even the Grottenbier.
The Belgium selection was far superior to anything ive seen in the south. We saw Gouden Grand Emperor and all the Allagashes. The staff was very friendly and seemed to be fairly knowledgeable about the various brews. We didnt have time to find out what all the great smells were coming from the deli, though, more on that later. I like the belgiums which they had on lock, if you like americans or germs you might be a little dissapointed, but hey your in the south, get over it

Nice owner, has a wide variety of beer from all over the world. I was able to get some local beer (cigar city) as well as a couple of singles that people somehow passed up in his singles cooler (basically leftovers). Mediterranean style deli, food is awesome...grab some grub while you are there. They fed me samples over and over while i walked around and looked through their selection. Nice people.

Heard a lot about this place but was a little disappointed. They had a good bit of beer, but much of it was old. Very unorganized. The people there were very friendly and the food samples were good. Think I left there with a little Sculpin, that's it. Would do in a pinch but not a great beer stop.

Little foreign market with lots of unique items besides the beer. Pretty good selection of beer but check the dates, found some gems but older than I was willing to pay for. Still worth popping in and giving a once over.

Continuing my travels in the southeast, and stopped here while passing through Pensacola. Good idea. This place has quite a selection, lots of bombers, tons of imports, everything available as singles. Had a deli like atmosphere, and an unusual aroma, but in a good way. Staff was friendly. I was offered food samples twice by the owner and once by an employee. Prices were a tad high but not so bad. My only complaint was standing at the register for a few minutes waiting to be rung out while the owner was walking around with his food samples. Overall a quality store, and one I would shop at on a regular basis if I lived here.

Go or don't go in here hungry, you're going to eat. This is a Mediterranean Deli that is also a specialty grocery that sells import and craft beer. The selection was better than I first expected upon entering. The folks were friendly enough but not Beer Geeks (no discussion.) Every time I looked up I was offered another sample from the deli and even a little wine. It was all very good I even made a few deli purchases. The owner(?) was very sales driven for the deli. To just say... No, thank you might have been a better move, one thing led to another right up to the register. No buyers remorse though. Came away with some great food and some nice additions to the cellar and a few that won't be around that long.

The owner is very pushy. Take the samples that are offered, but don't give in on the peer pressure. Everything is fantastic here though. Quite the selection, small, but diverse. I would recommend first going to Richey's East (right next door) before you get ripped off by the prices of Four Winds, however you are usually able to find some hidden gems here that Richey's may not have access to.

Overall: good selection, cramped, great food, pricey, too much pressure from the owner.

I was a little disappointed in this place after seeing such high reviews. Decent selection but completely disorganized. Many of the IPAs were old. Was able to find some fresh Stone RuinTen, which I have been anxious to try. Service was good...I guess. The owner kept offering me samples of different meats and cheeses but often handed them to me with his bare hand! What I tried was very good.

This place was okay, but not worth the trek from Orange Beach.

Outstanding. I was not able to visit this store in person, but their exceptional service resulted in me getting exactly what I was looking for, and at a reasonable price. I called ahead to order some Cigar City for a visiting friend to pick up in Pensacola, and bring back to Kentucky. The staff, especially Mike (the beer guy) and James (the owner), stayed in contact, and made sure all beer was safely delivered. I was extremely satisfied with my order, and the willingness of the staff to be flexible. This is how beer stores should act!

I really don't get the high ratings some folks are giving this place. I can only assume that they hadn't been to a *good* beer shop to know the difference.
The selection was good -- I have to admit that much -- but the organization was rather poor. Some of the beers were quite old, certainly not than what I'd call fresh.
The manager (or maybe owner) was very pushy, and only semi-knowledgeable (he kept trying to steer me toward his expensive labels, even though they weren't the styles I told him I was looking for).
All in all, everything in the place was quite overpriced. I didn't have enough time in Pensacola to see how the selection stacked up against other local places, but compared to shops I've been in elsewhere, this place was a disappointment.

Really people? The "best" in the Panhandle? This place is by far NOT the best in the Panhandle. Not even close.

Upon walking in we met the owner. Nice guy. A bit pushy as many of the reviews state. The place was gross. Cramped with shelves everywhere and open buckets of what appeared to be fermenting olives. We were approached by a cheese lady for a sample and she had no gloves on and handed us the cheese samples using the knife. Not what I expected.

The beer selection was....a disaster. NO organization at all with beer boxes all over the floor and Belgian beer next to American beer and all sorts of craziness. The one thing I can't stand is an unorganized beer section. And the selection wasn't all that impressive. As the former beer dude at Chans in Destin I can easily say Chans smokes this place. Hell, I went to Richies East right around the corner and it was better than this place.

This place was easy to find and you could smell the goodness inside before you opened the door. First impressions is that it's a cluttered/packed store with interesting items in every nook and cranny. It's definitely an international market with different ethnic food varieties throughout. The smell of this place is just wonderful!

Once you wander around you find the beer. They had a huge selection of DFH, though no 90min which I found odd. Easily 5+ bombers and 3-4 packs of DFH beer. CigarCity was limited, only Jai Alai and Maduro Brown. There was a big selection of Great Divide and Lagunitas, along with Stone and Rogue. The German and Belgium beers were en masse as well. Though it was an impressive selection, the prices seemed a little on the high side from the 6'ers to the bombers.

I didn't eat here but I did sample some of the wares available. It seemed samples were handed out whenever you were interested in a product because they know once you taste it you will buy it! Kudos to Mike for selling me, my buddy and his fiance the store!

Pretty enjoyable atmosphere here, it's a grocery/deli/beer store with hot food as well. Smells very nice and the beer is well placed and nicely organized without too much light damaging the beer.

Quality was good for the most part but one huge problem. I know anytime I misread or fail to read expiration dates I can only blame myself but for an A+ store 6 month expired beer is unacceptable. I misread best by February 2011 on a 6er of Prima Pils, 6 or 8 month best by date seemed right, so I was excited to walk out with super fresh Prima, which is one of my favorites. Instead I walked out with almost undrinkably yeasty 6 months past expired beer. Everything else that I checked was relatively good though but the food kept this rating from being lower.

Service was pretty good. The beer guy wasn't there that day but the two employees that were present asked me several times if I needed help and if I was finding everything alright. Also offered food samples as I shopped.

Selection was pretty good. They had a lot of stuff I was looking for: Oskar Blues, Great Divide, Victory, Highland etc. No Sweetwater and very little Bruery and only Jai Alai and Maduro Brown from Cigar City which was a big disappointment. I came for Cigar City but left with 2 4-packs of Wake-n-Bake which made it worth the extra 90 minutes of driving. Good selection of German and belgian beers though.

Food was excellent. I had a Gyro on french bread, they were out of pita, that was awesome. Tzatziki sauce and hummus were outstanding. My girlfriend had the Turkey salad which was pretty good, I don't like raisins in mine though.
Would have loved to leave with more but the prices were just too high to justify buying a bunch of stuff I will be able to get again. Nearly every 4 and 6 pack were were priced at 11.49 to 13. The food was reasonably priced though.

I didn't check out anything else in the area but the selection here was nothing too incredible. Definitely would have some stuff you could go home happy with if you don't mind the prices.

This is a gourmet grocery store that sells foods and drinks from around the country and world.
I'll begin by commenting on the beer selection since this is BA. Great beer selection, and from what I understand from friends that shop here more often than I do, they have a good rotation and turn around so no worries on picking up a stale beer.
There is also a cheese counter if you are looking to pair a particular beer with a cheese. One word of caution, watch the cheese they cut vs. the cheese you think they are cutting...I swear the cheese I got home was not the same as the one I thought I was buying.
And now to why I rated the atmosphere and service low. The proprietor is pushy to say the least. Be sure to have a budget thought out before you go because he will push you to buy more and more and more. Also, they try to get you to taste everything from the deli. You may be fine with this, but I have issues with mayonnaisey foods that have been sitting on a cracker for who know how long. Go for the beer selection and gourmet food stuffs and hopefully you won't walk out spending 3x more than you expected.

Stopped here while we were visiting Pensacola Beach, based on BA recommendations. Wish I could've stayed twice as long, but my wife was getting a bit antsy.
Take a quick left and the beers greet you in massive quantities. One refrigerated area for singles. Two long aisles of warm beer; German on one side, Belgians on the other, with many famous breweries alongside lesser known ones. Another wall had lower priced beers. Prices weren't bad for singles (clearly marked). Around $2.19 for DFH,Cigar City and Terrapin.
Didn't see the hard-sell owner until checkout, which we didn't have to wait in line very long for. He was trying to sell us everything from coffee to wine to cheeses. Loved the lady walking around with cheese samples. You gotta buy some muchies along with the beers. The food is outstanding!
Ask for Mike, the beer man. He took at least 15 minutes talking about dopplebocks and Trappist ales. Loved his lecture.
This is a place I wish I lived near. I'd go at least once a month and stock up...on beer and great food and wine and coffee. Four Winds is a must-go in the Pensacola/Orange Beach area. Don't worry about the medium-pressure owner trying to sell you the store. Just say no, unless your temptations kick in.

Stopped by here in April after reading the reviews here on BA. First off, be prepared for the hard sell from the owner. I ended up with a few more bottles than I planned on buying.

The selection is the best I have seen in Pensacola. The prices are a bit high, but once again you can't find a better variety of beer anywhere close. I picked up several bottles of The Bruery's beers, which I can not find back home. Great selection of Belgian and German beers.

On a side note, the store has a full deli with really good food. I ended up buying several meats, and cheeses to take back home. A very unique market, with lots of beers and great food.

This is by far the absolute best place in Pensacola to buy great beer. The quality of the beer for sale is amazing and there is a constant rotation of different beers so there is always something new to try. The beers are mainly sold in singles which is great for sampling a wide variety. The place also sells a variety of other things that go great with beer such as cheeses and meats. The prices are great as well. The last time I was there the guy who is in charge of the beer was there (I think his name was Mike) and was showing me some of the beer that he had just marked down. It wasn't out of date or anything he was just passing along the deal he got when purchasing the beer. I would recommend this location to anyone who loves great craft beer. A+++

This is an excellent place to shop if you are in Pensacola, not just for beer either. They have a wonderful selection of food that is not available at your regular grocery, an excellent food counter, a large wine selection, and oh yes...the beer.

Always a good selection here. I've bought everything from my favorite Belgians to Samichlaus to Dogfish Head 120. Most of it is room temperature on the shelves, but there is a small cooler by the door with a few beers.

The staff here can be a bit pushy, and it can be on the pricey side, but it is definitely worth the hassle. Just watch out for the fat guy with the huge block of gouda.

Stopped by here the other while in Pensacola for business in search of some beers which are unavailable in my hometown. They are located in a shopping center; conveniently around the corner from Richey's East.

First off, let me just say, this place is amazing. The amazingly varied smells of great food assault your nose as you walk in. While small, they do a great job of packing a wide variety of beer, food, wine, cheeses, etc. into this place. I was given so many samples of things while here, that I arrived hungry and left full. The service is friendly and knowledgeable, without being pushy. This really seems like a place where you are treated like a friend the second you walk in the door.

The beer selection is great, with plenty of the more well known rarities, alongside some more boutique foreign beers. For me, as a traveling sampler, one high point is that each beer can be purchased as a single. I picked up quite a few beers here that I would not have if I had to buy an entire six pack.

This place is a must see for any beer geek and certainly for any foodie! I picked up quite a lot of food to store in my hotel's mini-fridge and everything was great. If you have time to only get to one place while in Pensacola, this is it.

The staff is very friendly and very helpful they were also very knowlegable and proud of the wares they were selling. As was said before, the owner does a brutal hard sell, but he is very friendly and can take a no thank you. If you're not careful you will easily spend far more than you wanted. I visited Four Winds in December of 2009 because I had read about it's great selection of beers. When I walked in I was being pulled back and forth from two separate forces. That's when I realized not only does the beer selection live up to its reputation, but the food will blow you away. I ordered the "special of the day" which was a greek olive/herb salad laced with aged cheese on a toasted roll. I bought a Samuel Smith's Yorkshire Stingo and was given a glass from the owners personal collection to use when I sat down and enjoyed my afternoon feast. I ended up getting four more of the Stingo's because it was the tastiest oak aged beer my taste buds had ever experienced. Before I found myself departing an hour or so later I was guided through the store from the owner. He suggested some great beers for me to buy and every time I turned my head there was a giant wheel of cheese he brought out for me to sample. The service I was given at this store was top notch. One of the things that separates this store from other liquor stores I've been too is that for any 4/6 pack you can grab just 1 or as many as you want and pay the single bottle price. I really appreciated that option because my goal when I go to a liquor store is experience a flavor or mouth feel I have never had before. I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I was in Pensacola to visit my some of my family. I now have two reason to make the drive to Pensacola, thank you four winds.

The beer guy, Mike I think, really knows his beer and is more than happy to help guide you in your purchase. I rated this place as a bit pricey which is kind of misleading because all good beer stores are.
The service and guidance is well worth the dollar on the six pack I might of saved around the corner. I'll definitely be back in a few months. Yah I live a couple states over so it's a bit of a drive.

This is basically a Greek/Lebanese gourmet grocery & deli with a great selection of liquor, wine & beer. The beer is located to the left after you enter the store. It takes up both sides of a long shelf as well as the ends. There is also a shelf along the front wall & a refrigerator dedicated to beer.

The selection here really stands out. I couldn't believe my eyes. Lots of large bottles of Dogfish Head, Allagash, Ommegang and Belgians. I really like the fact that you can buy singles of everything. I just wish there was a little more from Sweetwater considering this is just one state over from the brewery. There were several boxes of beer in the aisles, so watch your step.

The service was good. The beer guy was very knowledgeable and gave me several recommendations. He even pointed out a special they had on Ommegang. I'll echo what a lot of people have said about the owner. He is a really nice guy, but he's a little pushy when it comes to trying to check out. He'll try to get you to by random stuff you're not interested in when checking out.

Be warned, Four Winds is a bit on the pricey side (almost $10 for a 12 oz of 120 minute? c'mon). I would recommend checking out the selection here first & then going over to Richey's East in the same shopping center before buying anything.

Overall, this was a great experience. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Pensacola.

Had to stop here based on the beerfly reviews during my road trip down to Florida. It was an easy place to find in a strip mall shopping center. Upon entering you're greeted by a large international market with lots of interesting food stuffs all over making the aisles a bit tight. Protip #1: Check out the deli counter with tons of cheese, meats and tasty sandwiches and potato salads, etc. (Smoked turkey salad and fresh asiago for me!)

The beer is located towards the left and there's plenty of it. A huge selection with lots of stuff I don't get up by me. Terrapin, Lazy Magnolia, St. Somewhere and a whole lot more. Ability to buy singles of any beer is pretty cool. They also have a cooler with the "lost and found" beers....it's basically a cooler filled with tons of random beers that were left over and was fun to look through. The beer guy was extremely nice and chatted me up for awhile after I told him I was from Illinois (beermail me!). Everyone was friendly and helpful here.

Overall, a great mix of beer, deli and international market all wrapped up into one. A great stop on my trip and a place I would totally go back to again if I was in Pensacola, since there is not much else beer wise down there that I am aware of. Check this place out would be my recommendation!!

I have been here twice in two days, buying a little over a case each time and spending around an hour in the store. Mike, the Beer Guy, is definitely one of the coolest, most knowledgable people around. I'm still considering a third trip, even though we are now in Destin and it's an hour away. Seriously, this store is great. They've got a ton of stuff for your non-beer compatriots to enjoy---lots of free samples, wine, interesting candies and chocolates, coffees, sandwiches...my girlfriend loved it there so much. We ended up getting some cheese, bread, and some of their special dips too. Definitely tasty! We went through that dip in one night.

As far as the beer goes, they've got a HUGE selection, at least in comparison to anything I've ever seen. It's easy to just admire everything for a long period of time. Lots of stuff I had never heard of, which is always great. Mike came out and helped me for a bit, and was a big help in finding some of the shining stars in their selection. He threw in a bottle before we left, which is just an example of his going above and beyond nature. I ended up spending a lot of money on beer here, but it was worth it.

They also have a really good selection of glasses, for a very reasonable price---$4 a piece, except for the giant Hofbraus glass, which I actually got. Hopefully I'll be back again before we head back to Tennessee.

This was my first trip to Four Winds, and definitely not my last. The staff was very helpful, especially Mike. He gave me his email address and told me to email him next time I head over there so he could update me on what the had, and see if I had any special orders. To me that went above and beyond, and earned my loyalty.

Great selection, lots of variety and organized pretty well. I do wish that the organization was a bit more defined or labeled in some way, there is so much beer in such a small space that it is easy to get lost in what you are looking at, trying to figure out where the German beers, meet the Belgian, and the wheat meets the bocks, etc. can get a little overwhelming.

Mike seems to be the kind of fellow that loves his work, he only made recommendations after I disclosed my preferences. The owner was also helpful and although I spent more than I intended, no one twisted my arm and I did receive a discount. As I was loading my car the owner brought several beers out to my car that he felt I might enjoy. I have been to other Beer & Wine stores in Pensacola where the staff only ringed up the selection and made no recommendations or comment, I prefer the service at Four Winds and don't blame folks for being good at selling their merchandise and freely offering their advice and samples.
