What I had: East End Big Hop Harvest Ale (cask), Yards General Washington Tavern Porter (draft), Fat Head’s Head Hunter IPA (draft), The Duck-Rabbit Brown Ale (draft), South Side Slopes headwich.

What I liked: Bustling approachable atmosphere, friendly patrons, massive well-organized beer list, efficient and welcoming bartenders, delicious world-beating sandwiches, great retail store upstairs, mind-blowing IPA.

What I disliked: Aside from having to wait a few minutes for our seats, nothing really.

Would I go back? Definitely.

Vibe: Expect to wait, but "chill out man, have a beer". Fat Heads has a uniqueness to it that will comfort anyone from a single man to a big family. It's really a pleasant place.

Quality: Fresh taps, and well taken care of. I'd be surprised if you ever get a dirty head-killing glass or a flat beer. You can tell that these people care about the suds, the people, and the food.

Service: It's a busy joint, be patient, but honestly - the service has always been top notch.

Selection: Always in rotation, but there will definitely be something here to please the crowd, especially if you're eating. The spicy foods go extremely well with the IPA's on tap, but there are plentiful flavors in all different categories. Bottom line, you'll enjoy the Fat Heads brews at the least. The other taps are bonuses.

Food: If you have an appetite and a reasonable palette you can close your eyes and point at the menu and be blown away. The food is so good it's frightening. I have yet to be disappointed.

Overall: If you are still debating going by the time you read this, I'm not sure what to say. It's a must-visit-family-friendly-awesome-pub.

If I know I'm going to be in the southside, it's tough to pass up a stop at Fat Head's. Huge selection of house beers, as well as beers from all over the country. Best happy hour in Pittsburgh. Most people don't realize Fat Head's was famous for their sandwiches long before their world class beers. Try one and you'll realize why.

Started going here in 1993 when the the boss and his wife would stop in every night. My name is on the first Wall of Foam plaque. Beer selection is excellent. If you get a Headwich , the kielbasa with pierogies is fantastic. My favorite time to go now is at lunch on a weekday. Not to busy but you can sit at the bar, relax, and talk to some local South Siders. A must go to place if you are in Pittsburgh. Before it was retired, Youngs Old Nick Barely Wine Ale was my beer of choice.

Very upbeat vibe...surprisingly big on the inside, bar on the left, table area on the right. addition tables in back of bar, an outside courtyard, as well as, space upstairs. (did not go upstairs). Bar seat 10-15. Looked like about 40 taps, half their beers, half guest. I had the Sunshine Daydream, Midnight Moonlight, & the Oompa Loompa... all very enjoyable. Servers were friendly and knowledgeable. I did not try the food, although I was tempted by the plates I saw passing by. They sell bottles to go.

Not a fan of the location. Took forever to get there from downtown, and parking seemed impossible. Good thing we took an Uber. Surrounded by college bars and the like. However, once inside, I relaxed; such a chill place to talk and drink GOOD beer. Big selection. They were out of the beer I wanted the most (tweaked out Hippy Sippy), so I settled for Head Shrinker. Solid IPA, falls short of Head Hunter and Hop JuJu. Additional guest taps were solid as well.

Upstairs is a to-go shop with apparel and beer. Next time in Pittsburgh I'll give the food a shot.

An old favorite. Food selection perfect for beer. Highlights: South Side Slopes, Beauty and the Beasty, wings, "nachos". Plenty of fresh taps with good variety. Great service most of the time. No place I'd rather go in the 'burgh. Little bit of a warehouse vibe, but come with a few friends, order a round, and you won't think twice about that.

Decently diverse tap and bottle selection due to it being a specific brewery's brewpub. FOH and BOH were a bunch of jaded apathetic spinsters. But the waitstaff and bartenders were cool. Rocked golden tee for a solid hour. Win. The food landed me in a coma that I came out of with diabetes mellitus. But the portions were fair for the higer priced menu items. Wish they offered a bit more diversity in terms of pour sizes.still great beers.

Fat Head's brewery makes excellent beer so they always a great selection of their own plus they always have a decent selection of other breweries beers and at least one cask beer on. The food is usually great bar food but there is always a ton of it so if you get an appetizer you better split a sandwich. The vibe is quasi hipster funky colors on the walls. Service has always been very good there, if you get a growler fill please ask them to bottom fill it otherwise they crank open the tap and you have 64 oz of flat beer to take home with you.

Everytime I go to Pittsburgh I make sure I go out of my way to make a stop at this place. The beer selection is amazing and the food is over the top! I havent had one bad thing off the menu in all my time going here. The bartender saved me money sending my down the street to a beer distro to buy a case of beer instead of buying it there. Staff are super friendly and have always made me feel like a local

If you are a fan of Fat Head's and live in Pittsburgh this place is a must. The food alone is great enough to make you wanna stop by, with unique and delicious appetizers, meals and of course a great selection of Fat Head's finest. A lot of the food even includes some of their drinks or hops used as ingredients to really make the flavors shine. I have only been twice now but really have a craving to head over again soon as every trip so far has been a delight. Note: A lot of my servers were very knowledgeable about the different beers and offered me pairing ideas as well, but not all seem to know it all!

This place has everything I need. Great food, great people, and last but not least, some of the best beers brewed anywhere. Definitely my "go-to" spot in the burgh. Friendly staff, and did I mention they have half off happy hour? Why go anywhere else in Pittsburgh? To be honest, I don't.

Visited on a Wednesday evening. Place was very crowded. Sat at the bar.

V - Bright, a little bit loud, clean and new, a decent beer vibe, but just as much of a sit down and have a great burger place. Kids were not with me, but seemed kid friendly as well. 4.25

Q - Proper glassware, clean glassware, no complaints - 4

Ser - It was a bit slow at the bar, but when I had their attention everything from my beer to my burger arrived quickly. Of course, friendly and helpful. Just enough chatter. 4

Sel - A wide selection of Fat Head beers, with at least ten more from other breweries. This was a late June visit, but I was disappointed there weren't a few more heavy, roasty, high ABV beers on tap. 4.25

F - Had a burger. Fantastic. Good home made potato chips as well. 4

The service and food were terrible. They don't serve flights, so it's impossible to taste the wide variety of beers that they have on tap. It's typical of other brew pubs in its Vibe, but the overall quality of the experience was greatly diminished by the poor food and poor service as well as the limited numbers of beers that could be tasted.
The waitress had little knowledge of the beers on the menu.

Overall a very good experience; would go back in a heart beat.

Beer: They had about 40 taps; 20 guest taps and 20 Fat Head's beers. No flights but they are coming in another month. Good mix in styles, tried 2-3 very good ones, especially Head Hunter. Head Hunter bottles to go too which is awesome, and they do growlers.

Food: Huge menu, we had wings, a chicken sandwich, and perogies. All were great; great bar food.

Service: Awesome. Waiter was knowledgeable about the food and beer, gave helpful opinions, and came by to refill our glasses all the time.

Great place.

Fat Heads is a strange part of the beer scene in Pittsburgh. Nestled in a very "college friendly" area, it struggles to be a place that I would ever want to frequent.

The atmosphere was pretty decent. Looks and feels more like a restaurant than a taproom but there is a good amount of seating both at the bar and the dining area. We tried several times before to check the place out but it was packed to the gills.

Selection - While they have a large amount of Fat Heads beer on tap, they have a greater amount of other breweries on tap. It was just another reminder that it was a restaurant first, tap room for Fat Heads second.

I ordered a hamburger and it was very bland. The burger was cooked properly so kudos for that but the meat had zero seasoning. The bun was equally bland and while the burger was large, I would have preferred a smaller, more flavorful one.

My experience was not a great one and probably will not go back. I wasn't impressed with the food or the beer and while the service was good, this isn't enough reason for me to return.
