12 oz. bottle. A pitch black liquid; swear I heard a glug glug sound as it poured . One finger head dissipates to sheen. The wet cardboard smell was a serious detraction ( oxidation ). Viscous and chewy, the taste was mostly sweet , not unlike sweetened condensed milk followed by a bitter almost burnt grain flavor.
Once I got past the smell the taste was great.

Appearance – Extremely dark brown in color, almost black, with a good, dark tan head that frothed and bubbled all the way down.

Smell – The coca and coffee notes kicked off this aroma, followed by a solid roasted malt based and a hint of citrus hopping.

Taste – This one came in exactly as the nose said it would. The subtle chocolate powder and coffee started things off followed by a slight hint of tangy orange. The malt base was roasty but, again, very subtle. This Stout was very even-keeled.

Mouthfeel – Medium-bodied and well-balanced, this one was very smooth past the cheeks and gums.

Drinkability – Nothing spectacular, but this is a difficult style for our neck of the woods and Bear Creek has a solid effort in the Stumpwater Stout.

Bottle purchased at The Rocket Market in Spokane for $1.25.

Poured an inky black, with virtually no head, just a slight, pond scum-ish dark tan frothiness at the top. No lace.

Smell was of bitter, roasted malt. Mostly reminiscent of roast coffee beans.

Taste started out with the roastiness noted in the smell. There was also a dark chocolate taste loitering in the background. Slight raisin flavor as well. The finish has a mild hoppiness.

Mouithfeel is oily, and rather thinner than I'd expected for a stout.

This is an ok stout. It won't make me stop drinking Obsidian anytime soon, but it's not bad.
