"Das Dunkle Pils". Wilkenburger was the traditional dark lager of the Brauerei Wülfel in Hannover, which was bought by the Gilde Brauerei. Gilde has re-packaged it in clear glass bottles with flashy labels and is marketing it to a younger crowd. A clear, deep brown body is topped by a frothy ivory colored head that holds exceptionally well and leaves some really nice lace throughout the glass. The nose offers a gently toasty maltiness and some minor floral hoppiness. The body is medium with a crisp carbonation that's gently tingly on the tongue. The flavor is mainly of a lightly sweet toasted maltiness that's tempered with a thin roasty edge and well-balanced by a firm hop bitterness and underlying flavor. It finishes short and dry with just a light touch of residual malt on the tongue. Fairly interesting and enjoyable. Very well made.

Nice black, ruby in color with a pretty intense head that eventually fades to a light tan coating on the top of the beer. Laacing is quite nice on the beers descent down the glass. Roasted maltiness is most evident in the nose with a subtle sweetness. Found the body to be a little watery and well carbonated. Very clean tasting with some roastedness and hints of charred something-or-another, almost like a VERY well roasted nut. Finish is dry and bitter which tasted to me like it was coming from roasted malts more than hops. A pretty enjoyable beer that I am glad I got the chance to try. Thanks Nero.

Bottled in a clear glass bottle. Appearance is a dark ruby or mahogany color. A very dense, slightly off-white head that results in a modest amount of lacing throughout the tasting session. The nose consisted of a noticable roasted malt tone. The malt provided a slightly sweet, but with a roasty and nutty flavorable taste. It was moderately carbinated with a slightly dry finish. Quite an enjoyable tasty brew. Definitely a session suspect.
