Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
India Pale Ale's are turning into hoppy monsters, but our Iowa Pale Ale is more mild and about balance. It has enough bitterness to match the maltiness provided by the pale malt base and gets its citrus zing from extensive dry-hopping with Cascade hops. This beer was first made in a few small batches as a summer seasonal in 2003. The response was so incredibly positive that is has worked its way into a year round beer and became a favorite to many.

Very very good offering from Millstream. You midwestern fans of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale looking for something similar a little closer to home are going to like this one a lot! The easiest way I can describe this beer is to compare it directly to its obvious influence in SNPA...it trades a little bit of hop strength (the Millstream offering has less) for a little bit of citrus flavor (more from Millstream's). A little easier to drink than Sierra Nevada's as well, I think that's due to the slightly lesser hop bite, though this is definitely a hoppy beer worthy of the style! I've had this on tap at the brewery and in a growler I've brought home and I think it deserves to be a year-round offering by the folks out of Amana.

In short, if you're passing through (or living in) the Midwest and are looking for a local offering in a west coast-style pale ale, you can't go wrong with this beer. If I was out west, I wouldn't pay significantly more to ship this in with Sierra Nevada, Rogue, and Stone offerings readily available, but that's not to take anything away from this one.
