Style: Oatmeal Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The 'oatmeal' in the name is due the 5% oatmeal in the the grist of this brew. Oats give beer a real thick mouthfeel, something definitely desirable in a stout! Black malt and roasted barley give the beer its color, and coffee-like flavors. If you like thick full-bodied & smooth stout, this beer is for you!

12 oz bottle, no date. Pours brownish black with a good-sized tan head. Smells of earthy hops and roasted malt. Subdued taste of light coffee, roasted malts, and hops, some citrus rind coming through. Medium body and average-high carbonation. Pretty good, but the smell and taste is too mellow.

Re-review : I recently scored a couple six packs (this beer is insanely hard to find for some reason) and it's fabulous.

This one poured a nice, 2 finger head. Black as always.

Flavor is just perfected roastiness, chocolate, and oats.

Aroma : Milk chocolate, steel milled oats, and lactose.

Feel is creamy with a dry, roasty finish.

Overall...what a knockout. Probably my second favorite oatmeal stout.

-----------------------------Review from 2015------------------------
Appearance : Pours a motor oil black body straight out of the bottle, but what's most disappointing is the total lack of head. There's none, period. I'm wondering if I got a dud, and the "best by" date is December of 2014, so maybe that had something to do with it being 4 months out of date. Still, I've had some beers WAY past date that still poured an awesome head. So, yeah, major problems in this category.

Aroma : Chocolatey malts, some licorice, oatmeal, light coffee aromas. Typical for your standard Oatmeal Stout, and I love that, so this is right up my alley. Faint woody hop in the distance at just the right level.

Taste : It's pretty easy drinking stout right off the bat, with the oatmeal coming out right away. Some coffee grounds and light earth follow, and some faint roasted malts with cocoa powder. At the end is some semi-sweet chocolate that rests on the palate.

Mouthfeel : Pretty medium bodied, a bit sticky and tarry, perhaps sappy even. It ends with a pleasant dryness as it soaks up the saliva on your tongue with authority. Pretty on par for the style, though I like the extra dryness here. The lack of head equates to a lack of stable carbonation, and it comes off a bit flat unfortunately.

Overall : I'd have it again, and for what a six pack goes for ($8.99 around here), it's worth a grab. The total lack of head really started out this journey a bit rocky down the back road, but by the end the ride smoothed out and it's a pretty decent brew overall.

Nearly opaque dark brown with moderate chocolate cream head. Moderate to light body for stout. Deep roasty chocolate notes with slightly acidic palate. Decent, but I like more body and less acidity in my stouts.

Prune, coffee and grain on the nose. Pours bright black under a 1” finely bubbled tan foam cap. The palate starts with grain, chocolate, light coffee, and fruit. The roast is fairly mild and the beer starts with a little sweetness but dries out with a hint of sour on the finish. Above average carbonation and a medium full body. Very easy to drink.
