Pours a clear goldenrod yellow with a slightly off white head of medium bubbles that melt quickly leaving a bit of a map on the side of the glass in it's wake.

Aromas of fresh lightly toasted malt and faint citrus hops.

Light and refreshing but not really a whole lot going on in the flavor department. Slightly sweet toasted malt with a bit citrus hops biting the tongue at the same time then creating a balance with the malts as you swallow and in the aftertaste.

Like a stranger saying 'hi' as you pass eachother on the street, it's pleasant and refreshing but don't expect a long conversation from this one.

Poured this 12 oz. brown bottle into a pilsner glass. Batch dated 2/8/07. The body was a pale golden color. Free of sediment with a crispy white head that faded moderately fast.

Smell was corn, vegetal. Sweet grains and floral.

Taste was sourdough(?). Lemony. Raspy hops/grains. Saaz-like. Nice bittersweet finish.

Mouthfeel was maybe a bit thin. Smooth in the mouth but rough pils texture in the swallow.

A - Clear straw with a white head of sticky foam.

S - Grassy hops with a pronounced maltiness bordering on marmite.

T - Quite malty but very clean. No fruitiness to speak of. Hops are also very clean bitterness with a slight grassiness.

M - Moderate body with some chewiness. Carbonation is moderate as well.

D - Quite good I think. Very rich, malt-centered brew that remains very drinkable.

Didn't really care for this brew. Something was just "off". Poured out to a decent yellow golden color with a short lived foamy head. Minor notes of lace with medium carbonation. Aroma was very odd, like roasted grain and kitchen cleaner. Flavor was unfortunately along the same lines; grain, weak malt and hops, with a watery overtone was the general feeling I got from this brew. Minor complexity and major disappointment. Mouthfeel was mild, almost to the point of weak. I don't think I'd have this again, as it was not indiciative of the style or any good beer I know.

12oz bottle with no freshness dating, only a batch number. it cost me only a dollar, and i poured it into a standard pint glass.

A- this one pours a very clear golden yellow colored bodied with lots of visible carbonation rushing to the top of my glass. a small skin of bright white head forms before quickly becoming no more than a crown. little to no lacing left behind.

S- the smell is very subdued. grainy and bready malts. thats about it.

T- sweet bready and grainy malts. a mild noble hop finish. not much else. not bad, but not great either. pretty simple.

M-light, crisp, clean, and refreshing. the best part of this one.

D- easy to finish and a good alternative to the american macro lager. at this price, its similar in cost. not one of the better beers from here.

Bottle from Trader Joe's in Omaha, NE
Best by 2012-05-09
Poured into a standard US pint glass

Trader Joe's in-house Czech Pilsner seems to deviate from the norm by emphasizing its malts more than the bitterness and floral aspects that continental hops can provide. While it's a drinkable beer, it's not one that I would make any effort in returning to, due to its somewhat imbalanced characteristics for the style.

Off-white head composed of medium-sized bubbles, vanishes rather quickly (30 seconds or less), becoming a perpetual cap atop the body, but leaving no lacing. Body is a transparent golden-orange in color, with yellowish highlights when held near a lamp. Carbonation is easily visible, but sluggish.

Aroma offers sweet malt with grassy and floral hops. Malt character dominates, deviating from what I often think of being the hop centrality to this style. Comes across as overly sweet, with hops in the background.

Taste opens with sweetness, mostly from malt and seems like some corn adjunct possibly, or at least the corn taste is apparent. Hops pick up in mid-palate, giving this a light bittering component and a substantial lift in floral and grassy character. Still, this is malt-heavy compared to something like Pilsner Urquell. Aftertaste is mostly malt sweetness, with some lingering bitterness in the far back.

Mouthfeel is medium, with a bit of wateriness around the edges. Carbonation is present, but beer comes across as feeling creamy due to it, rather than crisp, as I would normally want a Czech pilsner to be. Finish is semi-dry, as could be expected due to the apparent malt domination of this pilsner.

Appearance: A dark brass almost bronze colored body with a little straw hue. It pored having a great white head but not much for lace. The body also was filled with carbonation bubbles.

Smell: Nice crisp lager smell but pretty basic.

Taste: Good malt and hops balance.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and clean.

Drinkability: Not bad a good hot day beer especially for the price.

Trader Joe's Bohemian Lager
12 oz brown bottle
Batch # 07/13/05
Served in a 16 oz pilsner glass

Pours a golden yellow. Rocky white head that leaves spots of sticky lace.

The nose is bland and uneventful. Some whiffs of grain.

Taste is clean, crisp and grainy. Neutral flavors like grains, wheat and oats. Mini imported hop snap on the finish. Nice drinkability level with this Pilsner. I drank this beer rather quickly. Very reasonable price for this beer as well.

Bottle poured into a pilsner glass, which formed a nice white head which stayed around for awhile during drinking. Minimal lacing on the sides of the glass - more like foam islands and strands on the glass sides. Lots of carbonation to watch and a simple golden yellow color.
The smell is interesting - I get yeast, some apples and maybe a hint of a wheat beer - later some hops. Pretty good I thought.
Taste is nice - not bitter at all (18 bitterness units according to label), very smooth and a little bit sweet with some apple and malt sticking out. Nothing very memorable though as it goes down.
Mouthfeel - very carbonated but it coats everything nicely and then leaves. Not much else to say.
Drinkability I have to give it a 4 of 5 because it went down fast and went very well with a pork BBQ meal. I definitely could have picked up another if I didn't have to get back to work.

Clear golden pour with a decent white head of large bubbles that falls to a thin ring, leaving no lace.

Aroma is mild, somewhat malty, and has a light metallic twang and skunky hop not.

Flavor reminds me of a Euro Pale Lager more than a Czech Pils. Grainy semisweet malt, some dextrines, and very meager hopping. Meh.

Thinnish body with bubbly mouthfeel and average drinkability. Glad I just got a single.

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Golden with nice carbonation floating up but not much retention and scant lacing in the places where it's sticking.

Smell: A tad buttery with some grain and herbal halts and mild pilsner aromas.

Taste: Herbal hops, a bit of diacetyl and bread, and some pilsner malt flavors. Not a long finish, and not really a great version of the style, but mildly balanced enough and drinkable.

Mouthfeel: Nicely lighter to medium-bodied with good carbonation.

Drinkability: Yes, folks, this of course isn't the best version of the style, but it was pretty easy for me to drink it, and by the time I came to review it the glass was almost gone. Not bad to try, but nothing I'd seek at out again.
