This has the appearance down pat, with a bountiful foam cap and a big bouquet of clove and bananas. The aroma matches the taste. Enjoyable, if not stellar. And yet, post-pandemic, I keep returning to it.

Look: dark golden with a an inch white head (in snifter)

Aroma: wheat biscuits, yeast, banana.

Taste: The flavor was wheat biscuits, yeast, banana and clove. Typical Hefeweizen flavor profile. Good but I thought the flavor was a bit over the top.

Body/Overall: light to medium body.

Really good hefeweizen for the price. Has nice subtle taste of banana and a really good mouth feel. For one dollar a bottle you can't go wrong with this

A typical American (Bavarian style) Hefeweisen.

I got this beer, to propagate the yeast.
It meets the conditions I want. I'll be
making a pumpkin spiced ginger beer,
similar to the pumpkin ginger beer, I
got when I got this beer. (That one was
soda, this will be a sugar, ginger spices,
pumpkin pulp, fermented with this yeast.)

Hey, it was a liquid yeast, for $2.00, with 2
beers included. Yes, I DO have propagating
equipment, including O2.

It is a very hazy beer with a good head, maybe a tinge of orange. It wasn't very strong on the nose but was estery and a hint of phenols. The taste was very reminiscent banana bread with a full mouthfeel and good carbonation. Overall it is not a complex beer but hits the spot perfectly if a banana bready hefeweizen is what you are looking for.

It's unfortunate that a beer with so much promise is just average. Although better than your average but, the smell leaves you wanting more. Drink it cold and it alright, but not near where Josephsbrau usually is for a low cost beer.

For the price, it's excellent. When cold and fresh, it really is a great beer. Surprised me, the other TJ's beers are not quite in the same league as this one. Strong, banana notes, quite sweet but delicious

under the josephs brau label. sometimes when i take a little break from beer, its the old world styles that appeal to me the most and that i really crave. i know this is a budget craft brew here, but it really scratched my itch last night, and i am again impressed with a trader joes offering, even if i have only had a few of them, they have been excellent for what they are, and im not just talking about the ones done at unibroue. this is a shade darker than i usually look for in the style, but the head is high rising and lacy and lasting and it looks the part in the glass, really cloudy but not visible particulate. aroma is ripe banana from the yeast and a lot of raw wheat, earthy and grainy and hearty, light lemon and clove spice characteristics too, and a breadiness that i find appealing. the flavor might be a little overly estery from the yeast, but i like that in this style. i like the natural pale wheat malt taste too, fresh to me, not tired like the imports sometimes are, a little sweet but thats okay. not quite effervescent in feel, but its drinkable as they go, better cold though than as it warms up, the yeast really takes over at temperature. overall a very satisfying beer in my particular context, something i wouldnt want every day, but really hit the mark for me last night. i will grab more beer from these guys now that they can sell it in colorado, the price certainly is right!

Poured from a bottle from Trader Joe's at 45 degrees,

Look: Pours a hazy light brown color with a strong head.
Smell: Aroma is strong and sweet of biscuit and banana. There is some bread and yeast underneath
Taste: Taste is similar to the smell with the strong flavor of banana bread and biscuit coming forth. Yet the bubblegum and popcorm butter is also present! There may be a slight clove/coriander underneath. The yeast phenols are strong.
Feel: The mouthfeel is heavy and it is well carbonated.

Overall: This is one of my go to Hefeweizens. It may be slightly overly sweetened and artificially overpowered, not a balanced representative of the original German style, but the banana, biscuit, and Belgiant yeast flavors are strong and it is one of the most delicious brews I enjoy. You have to give Trader Joe's credit for this one.

I rarely find beer this undrinkable. Maybe it was exposed to light and heat before sale cuz so subpar I used the last couple bottles as slug traps in the garden.

very very strong banana flavor, not as complex or balanced as other hefeweizens. still very drinkable and enjoyable though as long as you're okay with that.Good carbonation, not foamy or thick. 159 kcal for 5.3 abv.

I assume this is also known as Josephsbrau Hefeweizen. I’m not a big fan of this one. It tastes very sweet with a strong banana flavor. If you like sweet banana beer, you might enjoy this.

Appearance is a darker gold, almost amber with off white, three finger head. Smells of banana, cloves, pale malt. Taste is yeasty with banana and cloves, though not much bite from spicy hops. Just bitter enough and no overly sweet. Medium bodied.

A: Hazy copper color, 1 inch dense off white head, good lacing

S: I could smell banana as soon as I popped the top, clove, bread

T: I get the banana but not as sweet as I anticipated, the clove and bread come in nicely, no hop bitterness to speak of.

M: Medium

O: A good hefeweizen in my book. The strength of this brew is the nose, really jumps out at you as soon as the air hits it. Taste was pretty good as well.

12 oz bottle from TJs.
Smell: aroma is typical of a well executed weissbier. yeasty esters (bananas), and phenols (spicy cloves) and a soft bready wheat malt.
Look: a tad darker than expected. its actually somewhere between a deep gold and and pale amber and it also seems to be filtered (krystalweizen) although the label says it is not. clarity is close to 100%. 3" head has very good retention but no lacing is present.
Flavor: soft wheat/bready malts, pronounced bananas and clove with a hint of bubblegum. Bitterness is minimal. just enough to balance.
Feel: medium body, creamy texture, effervescent carbonation and no detectable astringency (until the finish).
Finish: smooth malt sweetness and some astringency that hits the palate after the fact.
Overall: a decent rendition of a Hefeweizen, the filtered krystal kind, with slightly darker malts. drinkable. GB has always made good German styles.

Look-This hefe pours a brilliant orange-gold with amber hues and plenty of haze. You can’t even see through it at all. The color is reminiscent of warm apple cider. The head is thin, white, and bready.

Smell-Its aroma is rich and creamy and is similar to baked apple pie. The yeast esters are strong and are fruity like apple and banana.

Taste-The banana esters laced with plentiful apple give it a fruity cider-like flavor. I’d say that apple is the most prominent flavor. The mouthfeel is somewhere between light and medium-bodied and leaves a sticky-sweet apple coating on the tongue.

Overall-It is a refreshing beer and is packed with flavor, but is a bit sweet for my preference. If you are into that then you’ll like this fruity hefe.

With an opaque straight straw color, it boasts creamy wheat with minor yeast notes, subtlety sharp lemon that gets stronger with time and a slight metallic tinge. The carbonation has that bite that takes some getting used to, but it mellows out with time. While this is a decent hefeweizen, I highly recommend Karl Strauss’ Hefeweizen and La Cumbre’s A Slice of Hefen!

Another darker than average appearance, this time for a hefe. Aroma of wheat and clove, yeast doesn't seem American.

Taste seems to have a lot of wheat providing a gritty, earthy experience. Mild banana notes. As far as hefes go, this is traditional and affordable. Nothing to dislike here.

Bought a 6-pack from Trader Joe's in Houston labeled "Josephsbrau Hefeweizen". 6er cost $6 before tax! Never tried a Trader Joe's brew before, but here we go. Bottle to weizen glass.

A: This is a very interesting-looking Hef. It is darker/browner than you would expect, which isn't terribly attractive, but does have some of the light red hues that you see in the great Hefs. It's totally cloudy and not clear at all, which is big for me in a Hef. Minimal head and lacing, unfortunately.

S: Strong smell of yeast, wheat, sweetness and spice. Well done.

T: Taste follows suit with the yeast and wheat taking center stage. Reminds me of Karbach Weisse-Verse in the way it pulls off the bubblegum/bannana act, and that's a good thing. Little to no citrus/orange flavor, which is also just fine. Significant spice is present as well. Not lacking at all in flavor by Hef standards, which is again big for me because there is nothing worse than a watery Hef.

F: Disappointing mouthfeel. Not frothy enough, rather ordinary.

O: Definitely an above-average Hef with fairly robust flavor. Considering the low cost and the fact that it's brewed by a grocery store halfway across the country, I consider that an accomplishment. Well done!

Wonderful domestic hefe with all the complexity from the yeast used in it's Bavarian cousins brews. I knew trader joe's wouldn't disappoint and it didn't, also was 1.25 a bottle which is nearly half the price of its domestic wheat competitors. Similar to mother earths honcho but with a little more fruit and less mouth feel, however it's 40% less expensive and 90% as good.

very hazy on the pour. scent is pretty awesome - nanner, bubblegum, some spices. Taste doesnt quite live up to the smell but the banna/bubblegum taste is pretty interesting. Overall, pretty good beer!

weird thing is ive also tried this and only gotten apple and cloyingly sweet grain notes so not really sure what to think.

So, there's a Trader Joe's right around the corner, and I've seen the house brand. Hadn't bought it before now because, well, Two-Buck Chuck lingers on the memory. (Then again, who knows, it's been years ...) After a little research—all the while trying not to laugh at the must-have-been-tongue-in-cheek yo-sefs-broy branding—I decided to try three varieties. Second up, the Hefeweizen.

Short and sweet: it's an non-roasted version of their dunkelweisen. For me, that means the flavors make for a bit better complement. If you like banana bread made with underripe bananas—and the peel—you'll love this.

Hazy gold with four fingers of off white head. Good amount of lace.
Smell is typical Hefe. Spice bubblegum clove banana citrus. To me the combination of those elements pretty much describes a week old gym sock.
Taste is less bold and more drinkable that the smell would indicate. Smooth nice flavors with just the right carbonation.
Mouthfeel is medium and finishes slightly wet and sweet.
Overall this would be a good introductory Hefeweizen. I enjoyed quite a bit for a style I don't seek out often.

Not too bad. I am not a major fan of this style, but this particular one was pretty palatable and refreshing. The flavor wasn't very strong so this drank more like a lager than anything, but was stilla nice beer to have with some tailgate food.
