Poured into a weizen glass.

Beautiful colors here - shades of deep amber, gold, and a bone white head that leaves all kinds of lacing. Decent amount of carbonation bubbles are present as well. Nice fruity aroma with notes of lemon and banana with some clove and other spices hanging out as well. Taste is fine, but by no means as good as the smell or appearance. Lemon, wheat, and sour apple dominate the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is full, but a bit watery. Easy drinking here and a wonderful value at $5.99/6 pack - I could drink these all night. Recommended.

I picked up a six-pack at Trader Joe's -- looking for something inexpensive and I generally really like Hefes. I hadn't been that impressed with other TJ's house brands, but this was an amazing surprise.

I tried it in a chilled pilsner glass and it poured a golden hue, slightly on the orange side -- cloudy, but not so much as others in this style. Nice off white head with some lacing on the glass.

The aroma hit me right away -- the banana scents above all, with a touch of cloves. Very pleasant.

The taste matched the smell -- the bananas seemed to dominate, but it was nicely spiced as well. Very smooth with a pleasant finish.

If felt a little thin in my mouth, but not unpleasantly so.

In terms of drinkability, it's an A+. Pretty low ABV, smooth and light, perfect for a warm evening or a hot day, but it went great with grilled salmon on a brisk evening too. I could have put away several of these, and I still might before the night is thru.

Okay, so I thought I'd give one more shot to a Trader Joe's Beer. So far I have been totally unimpressed, but figured for such a low price I need to keep sampling. This one was certainly a step up.

Began by pouring a nice, mysterious light orange color with a good sized head, that holds pretty well on the whole. Lacing is above average as well.

The smell gave off a crisp and fresh wheat aroma, with a strong banana tinge at the end. Clove presence was notable, but not the most pleasant addition. As the beer warmed, hints of bubble gum were notable as well.

Tasted like a typical hefeweizen. Banana is definely present upon the palate. Again though, the clove attempt hurts more than helps here. It is too sharp, and definitely works against the crisp, wheat flavor. Overall, though a decent representation of the style.

Mouthfeel is not bad either. A bit of a salty aftertaste remains on the tongue along with a noticeable bubblegum sweetness. It is relatively highly carbonated as well.

Overall, I am somewhat impressed. Finally a decent TJ brew. Though nowhere near the same level of the outstanding hefes, it definitely has good flavor, and is very drinkable.

A: cloudy orange/amber, very nice creamy head that subsides fairly quickly.

S: all the hallmarks of a good hefe: banana, clove, bubblegum, and I would put them in that rank order for this hefe.

T: the three aforementioned flavors mingle in the intro, the middle releases lemon poppy seed muffin, a hint of acidity, and some fruity esters, the finish dries somewhat, and there is no hop aftertaste.

M: light to medium weight, somewhat slick on the tongue, and presents moderate carbonation.

D: this is a very good hefe for the money. For those on a tight budget, TJs is a great source for good beer at low prices.

Hazy amber/orange with a finger-thick, bubbly white head. Lots of banana, clove, cream and lemongrass in the aroma; floral and mildly earthy. citrus, banana and clove spice with a bubbly, sour mouthfeel on the first sip. Evenly light bodied with smooth sugared and sour fruit flavors. Soft spiciness and fermented fruit on the finish. Pretty standard hefe.

poured from a bottle into a Weizen glass.

A- the pour produced a cloudy straw yellow with almost two finger widths of white head. Looked to be in line with the traditional style of the hefeweizen.

S- During the pour the smell of bananas was strong. Also some detection of cloves. Very sweet and spicy smelling

T- Hit with the taste of cloves and bananas at first then some sweetness from the wheat and malt used. Some notes of bubblegum can be detected in the aftertaste for me.

M- Decent carbonation with a very light to medium body.

O- Very drinkable. This one can go down pretty quickly. Fits well with the style of "Bavarian Hefeweizen." This is a good beer to have available during the summer time.

I always appreciate value for decent beers, and the Trader Joe's line is not exception. This Hefe pours yellow-golden into my pint glass with a decent off-white head that doesn't really leave any lace.

Lots of good aromas, more than I was expecting. Big ripe fruity banana, and spicy cloves. I even detect the bubblegum that other reviewers have mentioned. Some malt sweetness mingled in, as well. Much more intense, yeasty and German than I expected for an American brewed hefeweizen.

Flavors are concentrated and complex. A little more malt balance comes through, especially as the beer warms. Doughy, sweet malts are complimented by ripe banana, clove, the fruity, spicy flavors imparted by the the surprisingly authentic yeast. Really quite good! The flavors linger well with a medium-long finish, medium body that's maybe a bit over carbonated.

Overall, a bit of a sleeper at a really affordable price point. The unique flavors probably don't pair the best with a wide range of food, but the value to flavor of this beer is quite good. While I'm not well versed in German Hefeweizens, beers like this make me want to explore more of the roots of this beer.

A: Light orange and hazy. Creamy thin head.

S: Pilsner malt, wheat, orange and caramel.

T: Wheat malt, and lemon. Caraway, cloves and other belgian spices. A hint of over ripe banana. Finish is dry and sweet.

M: Light to medium body. Medium carbonation.

O: A good hefeweizen. Solid flavor profile for beer thats a buck a bottle from trader joes.

Food pairing: Pair with a breaded and fried talapia over an arugula salad with basil dressing, on a warm summer evening.
