(6 pack from local TJ's)

Appearance: Slightly darker straw golden color. Crystal clear. Moderate head when poured but quickly fell down to lacing.

Smell: Sweet cereal grains. Honey notes. Wet malt. Cloves and bananas on the edges.

Taste: On the sweeter side, but not overly so. Pleasant bitterness on the edges. Dried bananas over sweetened grains.

Mouthfeel: Fine. Not watery. No alcohol notes at all.

Overall: I haven't had many of this style (Maibock), but it is a perfectly serviceable German-style beer to me. And, man, is the price right on this or what. ~$6.99 a six-pack!

This is a hit. I think Trader Joes has hit my beer preference nail on the head. Great beer for any time. I like one with dinner. Can't go wrong with this one.

12 oz brown bottle with a batch # and freshness date on the back label.

A- A quick froth quickly turns into a thin pasty looking off white lace. Deep golden hue show a good clarity off.

S- Big grassy aroma of hops and malt. Spicy from the alcohol and hops as well ... relatively clean.

T&M- Semi-thick chewy body with ample crisp and smooth features. Spicy palate of bitter hops and a slightly fuming alcohol. Solid pale malt palate with a slightly rough biscuity character. Big waves of herbal hops and toasted malt run through the semi-sweet finish.

D- This beer is not half bad. Quite a deal @ 5.29 a six-pack. Nothing earth shattering but certainly worth the try ... a good beer to mix things up a bit but not something I'd stick to all night.

look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3

Appearance: gold in color, 1 inch head, clear, low carbonation

Smell: toasted malt and honey

Taste: honey, toasted malt, and grass

Mouthfeel: light bodied, moderate carbonation, slightly sweet with a bitter backbone

Drinkability: I found this one to hit the style marks but not push them. A good beer to sit with for a football game, but not one I would look for regularly. Inoffensive beer that hides the alcohol well.

Pours caramel golden. Not much head. Nose was sweet malt and corn maybe, caramel on the nose as well, nothing special. Tasted like it smelled, flavor is decent, just not great. Sweet, but you can taste the alcohol, burns my stomach on the way down. Not bad for a buck, drinkable.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into clear cup.

Appearance: Bright and clear light orange with moderate white head.

Smell: Sweet fruit and caramel with spicy noble hops.

Taste: Very sweet fruit (cherry) and caramel, which turns a little spicy and bitter. Definitely a little too sweet and could use some more balancing hops.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium chewy body that is almost syrupy. A Helles Bock really should have a drier finish.

Drinkability: Considering the source and the price, it's not too bad, but not worth seeking out. However, it's a decent sipper and I am glad that Trader Joe's made it at the appropriate high abv.

Nice shiny copper penny color with excellent clarity. A fingernail of light beige covers a third of the top. Brussels lacing. Aroma of amber malt with a grain like bready note. The taste is amber malt with a nice German bittering hop in the back of the palate. The mouth is smooth and quenching.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Bright golden amber with a small white head that fades into a patchy layer. Small amount of lacing.

Smell: Strong aroma of caramel and toffee malts are followed by some earthy hops. Hints of apple and other fruits.

Taste: Sweet caramel and toffee malts up front are followed by light earthy hops. Finishes with a slight hint of dark fruits. Bitterness is very low.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and carbonation. Smooth and creamy.

Overall: A decent version of a bock. Light but tasty.

Can't believe these guys have freshness dating, but some more prestigous brews dont. Gold pour, fluffy head. Smells crisp, slightly hoppy.

Taste, a little bland, the aroma made me think this would be super dry and relatively hoppy for style, but instead, it tasted like it had diminished carbonation and by virtue, any of the prickly hop spice feel you'll get in a good version of this style. Good price on this stuff though.

12 oz

Pours a clear, orange-amber with a modest near-white head.

Aroma: moderate malt with a spicy hop note.

Taste: clean toasted malt with a hint of spicy/earthy hops. More like an amber ale than usual. 7% ABV is partially hidden.

M: medium body with light-medium carbonation.

O: a fine, if not exceptional, golden bock.

Pours a generous creamy off-white head over a translucent golden-copper body. A few large carbonation bubbles drift upward through the beer. Decent head retention and lace. Aroma of wholesome fresh bread, but otherwise very clean. Moderate amount of sweet malt flavor, light diacetyl and just a nip of hops. Alcohol is well-hidden. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Slight crispness in the mouth with a lingering dryness.

Well-balanced and fairly straightforward. There is definately a good bit of malt in here, but it's not exactly the most exciting malt profile I've ever tasted. If I'm going to pummel my liver with higher ABV beers, I'd rather do it with something that has a bit more panache.

Poured a rich golden color with just a bit of lingering head. Not much on the nose. Some malt, nothing overpowering. Taste is not great. I've like most of the Trader Joes brand beers, but this one isn't on the same level. Very bitter taste throughout. Very bubbley mouthfeel. Reasonably drinkable, just not to my liking I guess.

Pours a golden orange with very little head that disappears to no lacing.
Aroma is slightly sweet malt with faint citrus
Mouthfeel is substantial for this style of brew with lots of carbonation in the mouth and a fullness on the tongue
Taste of toasted sweet malts balanced with light hops bitterness and a slight citrus and hops aftertaste.
A nice brew for drinking at the onset of autumn....much heavier than a summer brew yet not so overpowering and to need to sit down to drink one, however the alcohol, 7%, is still a tad strong.
It does leave you with a nice warming 'glow' after you swallow

Pours out one of the lightest colors I've seen on a bock. Well-filtered golden-yellow body sports a thin head, settling to a ring in no time.

Aromas of honey, soda cracker, biscuit and a trace of sugar-cookie dough. Hops are light and flowery. Nothing too exciting, but nice enough.

Flavor counts most, and this beer delivers. Features a gooey honey essence mingling within the doughy malt, and just a flowery touch of hops to help give some balance. The texture is silky, full and round, creamy as can be, with a good stickiness and herbal bitterness in the finish.

Far from complex, this bock delivers fine flavor with an even more delightful texture. Had I only had sight and smell to judge it by, I would've written it off as sub-par, but it delivers where it counts most. Wish I had more than just one, because this is a keeper.

App. Dark amber with an off white head. A very small cap.

Smell. Sweet malt with some salty caramel. Perhaps a slight hop aroma.

Worth a try but not worth a repeat.

Taste. A slight honey sweetness with a touch of grain. Followed by dry resinous hop bitterness.
