Pours a clear amber color with decent head. Poor head retention and little lacing. Smells of lager cleanliness and some grass. Sharp, rather sour aftertaste that lessens with more drinks. Stronger than average carbonation. Rather bland characteristics plus the sour taste makes it hard to recommend this brew.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

The beer is a beautifully clear amber color with an off-white head and some moderately ok lacing. There is sweet toasted malt in the aroma and a hint of caramel that is inappropriate for the style but inviting none the less. The initial flavor is sweet toasted malt, but the sweetness is not at all overwhelming. The flavor immediately transitions to a slightly bitter finish but overall stays very balanced. The flavor could use some more complexity, but it is quite good. An average Vienna Lager, but the quality to price ratio of this beer are more than enough reasons for me to recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful, thick creamy off white head. Rich amber color with brilliant clarity.
Clean lager aroma with some dark dried fruit notes. Has some damp cereal-like characteristics.
Clean fermentation character with big malty presence. Strong cereal qualities.
Medium bodied and effervescent.
As a Trader Joe's beer goes, this one is not half bad. A very good, cheap, malty lager.

A - Poured out an clear, bubbly orange/amber color with a foamy, white, one-finger head that left no lace.

S - It smelled malty and earthy. Not much else in the way of aroma.

T - It tasted of biscuity malt and slightly grassy hops. It was fairly sweet.

M - It was crisp and sharp. A light-bodied beer.

D - This is an okay vienna lager. Very easy to drink and very affordable.

Presentation: Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into a standard pint glass. Label is mainly brown hued and shows a streetscape of older European buildings. No easily discernible freshness date.

Appearance: Pours with 2 fingers of nearly white head. This settles quickly to a thin coating of foam, leaving behind nice lacing. The beer itself is amber with a slight chill haze. Moderate activity. Some sediment int he bottle, interesting for a lager.

Smell:Sugary sweet caramel malt with an underlying graininess.

Taste: Very grainy taste upfront, leading into a semi sweet malt backbone. Mild hop bitterness in the finish, with a lingering reappearance of the graininess.

Mouthfeel: Slightly lower than average carbonation level, lends a flatness to the overall taste of the beer. Body is good.

Drinkability: An overall mediocre beer. The fresh grain smell and flavor is impressive and refreshing, but not much else going for it. My first and last of this one.

T: a hint of hopps, sweet, metallic aftertaste. clean. it sounds authentic to me ...
F: fairly carbonated - almost like a soda. not oily - light.
O: crisp, almost sessionable.

Good frothy head that reduces to a patchy lacing atop a clear auburn body. Looks just about right.

Honey. That's about all I'm smelling. Sure, it is a malt scent I'm picking up but it is very much on the sweeter sweet side.

OK, yeah, it's malty. However, it's a rather deft stab at the Vienna style as it isn't overly sweet (and the honey notes are controlled better than in the nose) and there is no lingering aftertaste. Well, there it is. Totally unpretentious and surprisingly good.

The score seems high to me, too, but I'm reminded that we review beer with style in mind. The Vienna style isn't something that has much of an elite quality to it but the "Trader Joe's" (like many BA's, I know who brews this stuff) version is quite solid. Exceptionally drinkable, flavorful and a beer I can imagine pairing with a good number of cuisines.

Everything here comes off as expected and average. Appearance looks like a standard lager, if not very slightly darker. Aroma is mild, muted and clean.

Taste drops the mild lager yeast, fractionally sweet, fruity in a very restrained and familiar way. Mild barley feels in the mouthfeel, upped carbonation. Its a heartier version of a macro lager.

A: Mix between harvest crimson and jasper. Off white pillowy head.

S: Big notes of grains and hay, maybe caramel malt. Also has a dimension of honey and juniper.

T: First taste profile is of munich, and caramel malt. It actually tastes like the way crushed grains smell in a homebrew. Secondary flavors are of plum and slight hop bitterness. Aftertaste is not dry and tastes like whole wheat bread.

M: Medium body with light carbonation. More bitter than sweet.

O: This beer's only downfall is that it is one dimensional. You have a big malt backbone, and distinct caramel, chocolate, barley and muncih, but it lacks the balance, that would make it a true top beer. I really did like this beer, in fact, im probably going to go buy some more today, and i recommend you do the same.

Highly transparent amber, with an ok head, but not so good retention. The nose is malty and unremarkable, the taste is the same, but very well balanced, and quenching. The mouthfeel is predictably smooth, and the drinkability high. Great session beer, not terribly special, but very well done.

Picked up a 6 pack at TJs. Not familiar with Vienna style lager but now know it is much darker than most lagers. More brown than gold. The taste was heavy and on the sweet side. Straightforward flavor, not much complexity. I would definitely try it if you like the style and you can't beat the price. Just not my cup of tea.

A: The beer is relatively clear amber in color and has a moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a half finger high light beige head that gradually died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of toasted malts are present in the nose along with some notes of caramel.
T: The taste is filled with flavors of toasted malts and has notes of sweetness and hints of caramel. Slight amounts of bitterness and spicy hops are also noticeable, particularly towards the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is nice and malty but is also rather drinkable. It's a pretty good representation of the style.

A: Light amber in color, very little head and no lacing.

S: Rich sweet malt maybe a little toasted.... slight peat moss smelling hops.

T: Very sweet malty with a very slight bitterness.... pretty plain Vienna Lager.. not bad at all...

M: Medium-light body with low carbonation. Very smooth aind easy going down... gets better as it warms.

D: It is a pretty average Vienna Lager and goes down very easy you could drink lots of these.

Hey it is worth a try and for the price it is a pretty good deal.

A - No head, no lace. Clear dark orange color.

S - Slightly sweet but slightly alcoholy smell.

T - Not bad. Not great. Slightly bitter, slightly sweet. A bit one dimensional.

M - Carbonation burns a little bit, makes it kind of hard to taste.

D - Except for the appearance, everything about this beer reminded me of olde english malt liquor. Easy to drink and the price was right.

again a few more of these and thankfully i am done, cold day, snowed in, lots of ehh beer from mixed six packs and away we go. served in a pint glass on 1.11.11.

pour was a nice medium amber color with a decent cloudiness that actually suprised me as a nice head of white rose up and hing around for a good few minutes before dropping back down to earth, but leaving touches all along the sides. aroma is light as the touches of bread and grains give way to a muted earth hops that has touches of clove in it. flavor is about the same with only touches of interesting depth found every little bit and the warmer it got the less interesting overall. still light and went down smooth and fast.

overall not terrible, just an average beer, that was about it.

Bronzed straw with a slightly copper/amber color, clear, average appearance. When poured into a pint glass the head is a lightly golden cream color. The aroma is dominated by a sweet honey character, with an underlying maltiness. There's also a slight hoppiness to the aroma, and a bit of funk. Somewhat offputting at first. On the palate it starts off sweet, with the honey coming on first. This turns into a pleasing malty flavor, with toasted grain and a light kiss of hops, and finally finishes clean and dry. Not much lingering flavor besides a pleasant grain-like aftertaste. Quite good for the price, though I don't know the style well enough to comment on this beer's particular adherence to a Vienna Style Lager.
