Okay, so I'm going to rate this beer against the style guidelines of both BA and BJCP. It's dead on to style, can't find huge fault anywhere, really.

I know this is basically Gordon Biersch's Vienna repackaged for TJ's, but that just adds credence to both GB and TJ's, IMO. GB for the outstanding beer, TJ's for recognizing a good beer.

12 oz brown bottle, pry-off cap.

A - Soap suds foam that settles in a nice cragy lace. Maybe not as persistent as it should be, but it revives well. Outstanding clear, orange-amber color.

S - DMS (a little heavy to style, but not offensive), to light toasted malt, to mellow noble hops - in that order as you inhale.

T - Light malty character that starts bready and sweet and finishes dry with a fresh hop finish.

D - Very easy to drink and very satisfying for this style. Even if you don't know the style, this is a smooth and drinkable beer. I've always called this style a sort of Oktoberfest light, this beer epitomizes that, wonderful stuff.

A- Poured into a glass. Has a very nice amber orange/gold color. With a 2.5 finger cream colored head that lingers. Good lacing.
It looks great.

S- The smell tingles the nose. Malt. Hops. Maybe some honey.

T- A lot of malts. Bready. Sweetish (honey/caramel). Very little hop bite...almost none but has a slight hop bitterness. It tastes good and balanced.
For some odd reason, it reminds me of Cola and tea.

M- Slick, watery, smooth, not too bubbly.

Drinkability- Very high. I can drink this easily. It goes down nice and smooth.

Overall, I think this is a very easy drinking lager with a great taste. I enjoyed it a lot.

Very good representation of the Vienna lager style. Pours with nice foamy white head and biscuity aroma characteristic of the style. Color is a rich amber hue. Taste is enjoyable with carmel biscuit malt favor reminicient of fresh bread, perfect for fall. Body is medium, but matches what I would expect for this style. I tried this by only purchasing two bottles. I will easily pick up a 6-pack next time at Trader Joe's. Good brew.

Short, off-white head doesn't last very long. Transparent, amber colored beer holds a few streams of slowly rising bubbles. Mild aroma of spicy noble hops. Faint malt flavor up front. Crisp carbonation washes it away making for a mild bittnerness goes well with the dry finish. Although the abv is low there is just a hint of warming alcohol. Overall a crisp, clean, malty beer that goes down quite easily for a 5.7% beer.

Pours a crystal clear, copper amber color with a cream colored 2 finger head that melted quickly to a mere ring in my glass.

Clean aroma of lightly roasted malts and a mild citrus from the hops. Diacetyl is present at the end as a light buttery aroma.

Mouthfeel is thick with tons of tiny bubbles.

Taste is a really nice balance of what appears to be Munich and Pilsner malts making it taste much lighter than it looks. Citrus hops are present from beginning to end making this a very refreshing Lager.

This is really light and wonderful with a nice drying and only a mild citrus aftertaste. I could definitely drink these all day and will be buying more...especially at under $6 a 6'r at Trader Joe's.

Nice deep amber, med.-small pale tan head steadily shrinking to thin foamy ring; tiny bit of lace.

Aroma is nice toasty grain, dry bread, faintly earthy-caramelly.

Taste is very nice toasty bread & grain, caramelly nuttiness, light sweetness with balancing light spicy-peppery-toasty bitterness. It has a nice, firm well-rounded character with good balance and some complexity. Overall, it’s an excellent Vienna.

Very happy with this brew. Creamy off white head atop a clear, beautiful mahogany-amber colored lager. sweet caramel in the nose and on the tongue, with some molasses sweetness and just a touch of earthy hops. stays pretty sweet.

smooth mouthfeel: just right and extremely drinkable. Excellent beer as an amazing price ($5.99 for a sixer). Very good beer, nice as we easy into autumn.

Pours a slightly cloudy amber body with a one inch white head. Smells initially malty (caramel) prior to a hoppy bite. Slight EtOH in the nose. Tastes pretty much the same as the smell, somewhat bready and a good hop complimentation to support the caramel malt backbone. Feels somewhat slick but not too much to make this beer off-putting. Overall, a great TJ beer and the best of the three TJ's I have had so far!

11/6/10 poured from 12oz bottle into tulip glass

a - dark amber with decent 1 inch head - nice ridge of head sticks around for awhile, good retention

s - caramel, malty goodness, surprisingly strong for what i expected to be a pretty bland beer

t - this is a nice, full-bodied brew with great taste. sweet caramel malts, a tiny hint of corriander, some hop presence as well

m - sweet, nicely carbonated, not too light but definitely not heavy - appropriate for the style

d - excellent, could (and have) sipped this one all night - this is a highly drinkable beer

Overall this is a choice brew. Definitely my favorite in the style that I've tried - yes, even better than Sam Adams. Especially for the value, this makes a great "standard" brew to keep around, is both enjoyable enough for me to appreciate it, and "simple" enough for non beer-loving friends to enjoy. Also, certainly the strongest in the Trader Joe's line of these apparently german-inspired brews. Will continue to pick this one up.

I was really pleasantly surprised by this one. I had mostly written the Trader Joe beers off as not worth serious consideration, but this is definitely the best one I've had so far. I have a feeling that a beer like this will receive unfair judgement, given its source, but I have to give credit where credit is due.

A: Orangey-gold, like a glass full of orange blossom honey.

S: Crispy malt and a little german eurolager.

T: Just what you'd want from a Vienna lager. Bready, toasty malt, barely perceptible hops. Tasty.

D: Honestly, I could drink these all night, and they're probably no more than 5.99 per six pack. Could get dangerous.

A - Perfectly clear amber body, 1 finger head falls quickly leaving no lacing, few bubbles.

S - Malty, mildly caramel, lightly toasty. Really pleasant.

T - Malt forward obviously, subtly sweet. Just like the smell it's somewhat toasty, somewhat caramel. Flavor lingers (good), occasional metallic aftertaste but otherwise super clean.

M/D - A little sticky but the body is still thin and it feels appropriate for the style. Very easy to drink and not light on the ABV.

I really like this , especially for the price.

Orange and clear, rising bubbles, very nice head and some decent lace.

Aroma is this brew's strongest point, fruity and malty, with a fresh spring day tossed in for good measure.

Flavor is somewhat octoberfest-ish, but more toasty, with bready and caramel malt flavors, enough bitterness to balance with just a touch of floral hoppiness.

Body is medium and kind of more chewy than expected, but that's not a bad thing in this case. Drinkability is high, I'm trying to savor it, but the beer could easily go down real quick.

Overall the beer is very tasty, and I can see myself picking up a sixer of this next time I'm at trader joe's. Very good job on this one.

Poured into a pint glass.

The Vienna lager is one that is not brewed as much as it should be in my estimation. To me, this style is an excellent first beer for those unfamiliar with craft brewing. This particular take on this style is well done. Sweet, malty and crisp, there is nothing objectionable here. The mouthfeel is a little sticky, but overall this is a well made lager that is very easy to drink. Recommended.

Appearance: Pours a clear light brown with hints of gold around the edges, an offwhite soapy head on top leaves a bit of lace.

Smell: Mmmm malty. There is a dominant caramel smell that is mixed in with a a bit of a hoppy undertone.

Taste: Caramel and a slight toffee flavor mix with nice hints of hops and sweet austrian malt. Overall nicely balanced and goes down smooth without being overly sweet or tasteless.

Mouthfeel: A slight bit creamy but fairly light bodied.

Drinkability: A nice example of a great style. I could easily drink this all day long as it goes down real smooth and has a bit better of a flavor profile than many of the Mexican versions. Add to that the $6 price tag and this one looks like a winner.

Pours a real light clear root beer color almost like an orange and light amber with minimal white head and very little if any sediment.

Caramel malt aroma with some barley grain notes.

A crisp caramel malt taste with a crisp hint of florals and a slight butter flavor in the background.

Light/medium bodied, slightly buttery and a resinous feel, with lively soft carbonation.

A definite session beer and a good example of the style. Buy one for a buck at Trader Joes.

A grand amber color, golden and tinted reddish. A decent sized head ofan off-white color fades down slowly and laces the glass like crazy.

A malt bomb on the nose...a rush of burnt sugars and fresh caramel attack your senses with a hint of nuttiness in the

Very bitter punch in the flavor, lasting not only through the iniitial taste but all the way on the finish. The malt that asserted itself in the aroma takes a backseat to the hops. Only toward the middle of the flavor does that sugary, nutty, caramel malt stand out, before the bitterness takes over the finish. Slightly woodsy and mossy overall.

Overly crisp and verging on fizzy...strange considering it doesn't look like it would feel this way.

Extremely tasty but bitter. I could see this being a once in a while kind of brew, and drinking too much is not recommended due to the imbalance between the sweetness and bitterness...but very decent indeed.

Appearance: A lovely honey amber. Head is just barely yellow, about the same shade as waffle batter. The bubbles are pretty big and the head doesn't last long.

Smell: This smells so much like corn to me, like those Niblets you get out of a can. Sweet, grainy, buttery, and grassy. I like it! It would go really well with fried chicken or Mexican food.

Taste: Slightly caramelly, which is offset by a generous helping of hops. The hops' flavor (but not the hops' bitterness) is in full force, lending an amazing estery taste. Overall, this beer reminds me of corn cakes.

Mouthfeel: Nothing special. Very light, kind of flat. It stays with you, but in a kind of syrupy, cloying way.

Drinkability: I really enjoy drinking this beer. It's light, but has a hearty and complex flavor that doesn't get old too quickly. I imagine I could knock back quite a few of these at a barbecue.

1.5 finger head which rapidly dissipates on a hazy amber with golden hues body. Nice lace. Very malt heavy aroma, almost like you are smelling it in the brew tank. A little musty. Flavor is also a thick sweet caramel malt flavor. Nothing watered down about this one. I actually really like this flavor. It's very cereal like. Medium to full body for the style and moderate carbonation. Very drinkable.

All in all, this is a real solid Vienna style lager. It's sweet and malty, with just a hint of hops in the after taste. The beer pours an crisp amber color, with little head and just a little bit of lacing on the glass. It's not a go to style for me, but this is a session lager that I'd go to instead of a macro offering.

This beer is right up my alley. Glad I tried it.

A - Nice dark amber. Probably my personal favorite color for a beer.

S - I got some caramel and breads didn't really reveal the hops, although smell is not my strong suit.

T - Very malty, very tasty. I was surprised how good it was and how balanced the hop finish was. It was so balanced. Not being a hop head I do enjoy a beer with some hops but doesn't taste like I am drinking pine cones.

M - Nothing special. Did not add or distract. Just a regular lager thing.

D - Good year round beer. Could not think of a time where this would be inappropriate. Perfect amount of alcohol to drink just one or linger over a couple through an afternoon or evening.

An above average lager with good taste and a great price tag of $5.99. Will return.

2oz bottle purchased for a dollar. no freshness dating.

A- this one pours a clear light amber colored body with a finger of quickly diminishing egg shell colored head. the head leaves behind no lacing.

S- sweet caramel and bready malts upfront. more bread than caramel. nothing else much.

T- the bready malts dominate the front of this beer. there's some caramel in here too. a light noble hop bitterness at the end balances this one nicely.

M- medium bodied and creamy with a moderate level of carbonation.

D- for the price this is fantastic. easy to finish and something different that's pretty sessionable. ill check this one out again, and try some of the others in the Trader Joe's line.

TJ's Vienna Lager. I can see there's a little bit of slightly yellowed tan to the creamy one-finger head. Nice. The body is clear with a deep-amber/copper color. Pretty good head retention. Decent lacing. The aroma is solid, with a clean, distinctly grainy maltiness that's nutty and subtly caramelish. I don't find any hops, but they are there in the flavor - floral and spicy - backing the toasty maltiness. It's rich, but I don't want to say rich, I don't want to give the impression that it's bigger than it is. There's just the right amount of maltiness to it! And there's just enough Vienna malt in the grain bill that it's toasty, nutty and delicately caramelish with an almost fruity side as well. (Don't ask me to explain that, I can't, I don't know where it comes from but I find it in quite a few Vienna lagers/Maerzens where the grain bill has enough Vienna malt to do it). As usual, it's really well rounded with a malt focus and hop-spice accent; and it's perfectly balanced by a stiff bitterness that allows the malt to shine but keeps it from becoming cloying. It finishes dry, but with some residual malt and hops lingering behind. This can be a hard style to do because it's easy to go too light or too full, but they've nailed it. I'd even prefer this to some of the more watered-down versions coming out of Germany for Oktoberfest these days. Really nice! Worth trying!

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours amber with a medium white head, solid head retention, no lace.

S: Real nice Vienna malt nose, light hoppiness.

T: Sweet Vienna malt and caramel. Light piney hop character, good balance.

M: Light-bodied, creamy and smooth, soft carbonation.

O: A very well made beer to style. The flavour is right where I need it to be. At $5.99 a sixer this is a steal.

A - Pours a clear copper with an inch of off white foam. Doesn't last long.

S - Hella malty, with some apple, raisin.

T - Malty with toasted caramel notes and a touch of apple. Somewhat tart up front and a sweet, malty, middle. Finish is a light hop bitterness.

M - Moderate body. Smooth.

D - Pretty good, solidly malty lager.

Poured into a American pint glass frosted in the freezer.
A nice one inch white foam head, great lacing.
Beautiful rich amber color. Nice bubble.
Toasty on the nose.
Malty and medium bodied. Nice finish.
A real sleeper at $5.99 a sixer.
Marzen drinkers should appreciate this one.
