black color, couple fingers of head. decent retention and leaves some lacing.

light on the nose, some malts, a faint bitterness...very subtle.

the taste is pretty quality. chocolate, coffee, roasty malts. liking it! feel is a bit on the light side for the style, but highly drinkable indeed. overall pretty solid!

L: Dark as anything with a tan heads that has some life to it.

S: Dark roasted malts dominate the scent. Theres a little sweetness, maybe a fruit smell or caramel.

T: A moderate malt in the front that gives way to a roasted and fruity end. The end is whats really good. It kind of tastes like its nearly sweet, but not quite there. Imagine a combination of caramel, oatmeal and coffee with a hint of chocolate and overarching fruit, like raisin or something. That tail end of the flavor is really unusual for a stout, but I like it.

F: Very light bodied and drinkable, which is the opposite of what I thought it would be as an oatmeal stout.

O: Very, very good. A sweet(ish) stout that I feel could appeal to a lot of people that get intimidated by darker beers.

Fairly rich but drinkable. Good malt flavor and not to much bitterness on the back end. Overall pretty good stout.

Look-It is jet black and is unforgiving—doesn’t let any light through—and has a pleasant smooth off-white head.

Smell-It smells of molasses, cocoa, milk chocolate, and oats.

Taste-Its smooth complexity and pleasant flavors culminate in a well-mixed barrage of chocolate, oats, brown sugar, and some coffee.

Mouthfeel-It is quite smooth almost like an oyster stout.

Overall-It is delicious and robust.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass

A: Pours black with ruby highlights around the edges, lots of lacing for an oatmeal stout, tan colored creamy head that disappeared into a soapy film. Looks pretty good.

A: First impression, very sweet, some coffee, oats, but overall, a very sweet smelling oatmeal stout almost like a milk stout.

T: Oats, sweet milk, some coffee, chocolate, hint of roasted malts, very easy drinking, goes down really smooth. Very good.

M: Light-medium body, semi-dry roasted coffee, chocolate feeling on the palate, very easy on the palate.

O: Very impressed, especially for the price, good amount of flavor, easy on the palate, easy drinking, it's just a tad too sweet for me, I would like more roasted coffee and bitter chocolate notes, leans heavily towards a milk stout in flavor and mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours quite dark. Aroma is pretty standard. Smells correct for the style. Roasty and chocolatey. Flavor is also predominantly the same. A decent mixture of bitter and sweet. The color deceives me and makes me think it will be thick. Actually its fairly light. While the body is rather light, the texture on the palate is nice.

12oz bottle, bought roughly 4 - 5 months ago at Trader Joe's. Dated as Best By 12/10/2015.

Look: Pours dark, dark, dark (no opacity) with lots of brown head that dissipates after about 30 seconds, leaving behind a decent ring of foam.

Smell: The aroma is complex: dark fruits, dark malts, and when it came to room temperature: molasses. Simply amazing for a simple stout.

Taste: dark malts, coffee, perhaps chocolate, with a pleasantly bitter finish.

Feel: medium to heavy mouth-feel, smooth, and very satisfying.

Overall: I was blown away at the overall quality and complexity of this simple oatmeal stout with a mere 5.2% ABV. I drank it in a side-by-side with O'fallons Winter Stout, and although the Winter Stout had a complimentary sweetness this beer didn't have, the malt backbone in this oatmeal stout easily made up for it in its sheer ability to entice me deeper into its subtle yet rewarding complexities.

L: Black with a finger of tan head.
S: Milk chocolate, roasted nuts, and coffee.
T: Follows the nose with lots of milk chocolate. The finish brings flavors of roasted nuts, coffee, and some mild bitterness.
F: Medium-light body. A bit thin and easy drinking, I wish there was more body.
Overall an average to slightly above average oatmeal stout. It is pretty thin and doesn't have much roasted flavor, but for the price ($6 dollars a sixer) I can't complain.

For an oatmeal stout, this came very close to porter.

pours opaque dark brown, with 1/2" rich tan head which lingers a little bit.
Slight hint of hops on the nose, but very little smell except roast malt
Not so much a biscuity edge for a stout, but close to porter for me, with slight hint of bitterness on the rich espresso-roasted malts....leaning towards mollasses flavor, but without cloying sweetness, I don't detect coffee or chocolate or fruit essence per se, .
Smooth on the tongue, yet medium-light- bodied. Carbonation seems to quickly dissipate, but flavor lasts.

This was part of a six-pack I had no trouble completing.

With a near black mahogany color, it boasts a very dark roast of straight coffee, espresso and a mild roasted milk chocolate taste with a little, albeit pronounced, tinge of roast bitterness. Fantastic mouthfeel for the style. Not sweet compared to San Marcos Brewing Company’s Old Goat’s Oatmeal Stout, but it does a good job in the dry finish category.

Fun fact: This used to be brewed by Goose Island Brewing Company in Chicago, IL, when they shipped the oatmeal stout at that time!
