Stopping in Canmore for a couple of pints at the Grizzly Paw, I picked up a free copy of the Canmore/Banff area "Where" magazine. In it was listed Alberta Spirits, supposedly with over 300 beers. Thus began my search to find this store, because it would surely be the best in the Banff/Canmore region if it was true, which it was. The store is on the north side the main road, called Railway Avenue, in a strip mall, across the road from Pharmasave. A very nice store, designed well. A moderately sized beer cooler was my destination(though the racks and racks of wine also beckoned my attention). The store stocks Grizzly Paw's beers, a good selection of UK ale, including Wychwood, a decent stock of Belgians, including Chimay and Orval, Chouffe, some Huyghe stuff, Wild Rose, Unibroue, St. Ambroise, amongst others, and a decent selection of sake. Not much that I have not tried before, but this is certainly the only beer stop in the Banff/Canmore area worth visiting for a beer lover. The staff is friendly and helpful, and if you fancy a bottle of wine, choose from their 2000+ selection, including a magnificent display of champagne and BC wine. I was quite impressed with Alberta Spirits, and will make frequent visits when hiking or camping near Canmore.
