An unlikely source for good brew, just steps (literally, about 15 of them) from the campus of Ithaca College.

Formerly known as Rogan's Pizza (and the fact that there was nothing particularly special in the beer department), this place has undergone great changes in the last year or so.

The new owner is a beer buff, and is making great strides to advocate to the unwashed masses of college students who pour through his doors. Due to its close location, King's is the go-to place for pizza, subs/hoagies, and other deli delights. Their pizza sauce is a little too sweet for me (a little too much brown sugar in it), but overall, the food is decent-- but that's not why you're reading this!

Beerwise, the owner has made an effort to provide a good selection, with college-student friendly prices. You'll usually find full lines of Brooklyn, Wolaver, Ithaca Beer, Saranac, the occasional Victory, and different sixpacks from several others (Longtrail, Wagner, several different Sierra Nevadas). About two and a half doors of the cooler is craft, with another half being filled with BMC, and the rest holding soft drinks, milk, eggs, etc.

The Saranac, in particular, is priced to be very competative with the BMC products, and the owner often runs sales on 12ers of the Pale Ale for 8 dollars or so. Again, their philosophy -- decent (not mind-blowing) beer, priced to sell. Saranac PA is a great gateway beer, and is apparently very popular with the students.

They also just added a growler-filling line with three taps, and there's usually something fun on them. They even had a keg of Ithaca Beer's limited run Cascazilla the other day. Prices are decent.

What really makes this a must-stop in town, however, is their prices on 750s from the Ommegang line. Rare Vos, Hennepin, and Ommegang are always in stock, and all at 3.28 a bottle. Really hard to beat that price, I must say. This winter, they had Three Philosophers too, and lots of it, for only 4.50.

There's a lot of turnover here too, so everything stays fresh, and the quality is good.

In the end, this store serves its purpose -- to provide, good, affordable beer to college students, and to put them on the path to true brew appreciation. I would say it's working. The people who work here know the beer, and the service is friendly. Where as a few years ago, most students lugged up an Icehouse 30 to the counter, I was pleased to see lots of corked and caged bottles being snapped up when I visited last.

All in all, don't go out of your way to get here (save that for the FLBC downtown), but definately stop in for a quick lunch, and check off the Ommegang items on your shopping list here!

This place, I think, is just getting started -- who knows, it might be a real beer mecca in a few years.
