Stopped in here during a recent visit to Norwalk for bmanning's wedding.

The biggest section of the store is taken up by plenty of wine, as would be expected from the name. Toward the black and in a short quarter-aisle near the right side is a selection of beer. There's the standard BMC fare, but also a pretty decent selection of craft. Some Stone and other outside the area products plus Thomas Hooker and other Northeastern beers. In the cooler, they had two growler selections from Olde Burnside -- just what I came for -- as well as two growler selections from Berkshire and plenty of Berkshire bottles.

I didn't ask for help, so I can't really comment there. There were a few people working the floor, so I assume I could have gotten some assistance. Selection wasn't great and this isn't something to stop off the highway for, but if you're in the area you should be able to pick something worth trying up here.

Walked in to Elmer's not really expecting much - it had been a while, and previously it seemed like a Sam Seasonal would be a great find here. Definitely some dramatic improvements on the beer front with a decent selection of craft beers.

Service was non-existent, which I guess is average in this world. Selection was pretty good, with some nice bombers, and a few local microbrews I hadn't seen around. Nothing that wowed me, and the selection is still pretty limited.

Worth tracking into the future if these guys make progress. Defintely a step beyond the other local big boxes - Stews and BevMax, but a step behind Ninety9.

Wine is the feature here, no question, though in recent weeks/months, the overall selection of beers has improved considerably. More shelf space has been allocated to six packs of microbrews - nothing that makes you stop in your tracks and making sure you brought enough $$ - but enough to make you spend a few minites thinking over what you want to bring home that night. In particular, the 'big beer' selection has expanded a bit - some belgians, more sam smiths, and some other micro limited releases. Makes for a very reliable stop on the way from from work.

July 2009 update - bomber/craft selection continues to grow. Upgrading previous rating from January.

Elmers has been in Norwalk, right next to the Wilton border for many, many years. It was recently, they moved 150 feet way, next to Wal-Mart. Please keep in mind, it is the closet liquor store bordering Wilton which is a DRY TOWN . :( Talk about tyranny.

As mentioned below, wine gets the most attention at Elmers, but that is generally the norm in Fairfield County. The beer selection is decent though, I also have bought some stuff from Cisco here. Elmer, himself still works, which is nice and the rest of the staff is very helpful to assist your needs. The new location is certainly nicer and larger than the old one.

This boxy mall dweller is easy to find just north of the Merrit pkwy on main st. Its clean, new, bright, and well stocked, but the name of this place says alot. Beer is the poor cousin of beverages in this store. You'll find a pretty typical range of brews in the coolers along the rear of the store with a bunch of 12er, 6ers and cases of macros on the floor nearby. Wine is the star here, beer an afterthought. I did pick up a large bottle of Cisco's celebration libation. So you could get lucky with a find or two, but I doubt I'll be back
