Consumed 2/9/14

Appearance: Pours almost entirely clear, some chill haze, deep orange and copper with some light amber - pours with a medium-sized head, fades to a few wisps, leaves some nice spots of lacing though

Smell: Hello, Simcoe? (maybe?) - lively and hoppy, with a lot of citrus and some pine - orange, grapefruit, and a touch of lemon - orange and grapefruit juice - grass and some pine - a vague spiciness - caramel and pale malts - undercooked biscuits and toasted bread

Taste: Actually pretty balanced for something from the West Coast - big hop presence, with orange and grapefruit - citrus flesh and juice, with a touch of pith - moderate bitterness - some grass, pine resin, and some herbal/spicy notes - caramel malts, with some pale flavors in the background - toasty biscuits - crystal malt - a little mint in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium-ish body, nicely carbonated, kind of watery but in a good way

Overall: Solid and somewhat memorable

This is a tasty IPA. It's not the best I've ever had, but that statement is not particularly meaningful in the IPA category. This has some nice citrus, pine, and mint. Definitely worth a try.

A: Pours an orange/amber with a white head.

S: Fresh orange juice/zest, a little pine, in the nose.

T: A bit floral, pine, orange, very fresh-tasting, and delicious.

M: Medium bodied, not overly carbonated.

O: This is a great IPA, nice and citric. I think cans are great for keeping in the freshness and keeping out the light. Delicious beer, try it.

This is another in a slew of very pretty IPAs I've been drinking lately. Amber body, pillowy off white head, good retention, good lacing.

Up front I get... Something kind of abrasive, but I can't quite put my finger on it. There's a caramel juiciness hiding behind... whatever it is, as well as some citrus hops.

The undetermined -- is that what they are talking about when they say it smells like cat pee (I don't have cats...)? -- does not continue into the taste, where the caramel undertone and juicy tropical fruits take more of a front seat. Towards the back end it gets a steeper bitterness, maybe some pine, but still a lot of citrus.

Very smoothe and drinkable. Good carbonation, I wouldn't describe it as sweet per se, but it is very soft and easy drinking, despite the definite hop bitterness on the finish. Certainly a viable IPA that I would gladly drink again, but I'm VERY glad I picked it up in Portland at literally half the price for a six pack as what it costs in St Louis.

Caldera IPA has a thick, creamy, slightly off-white head, a mostly clear, orange appearance, with powdery white sediment suspended throughout, and lots of lacing left behind. The aroma is of very pronounced, piney hops and rich, sweet white bread. Taste is of the same, with an strong, but not overwhelming bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, somewhat slick, and a bit prickly. Caldera IPA finishes mostly dry, easy drinking, and not the least bit alcohilic. Overall, this is outstanding.
