Appearance: pours an amber color with a 1" head that recedes to a thick surface foam. Nice lace develops.

Smell: pine and bread coms through to the nose.

Taste: bready malt focus with some strong pine, greapefreuit, and a earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp to start, less crisp and a touch dry late.

Overall: if you like piney and earthy IPAs this one is for you.

A: slight haze; burnt orange in color; 2 finger off white head that receded to a thin cap; very nice lacing;

S: rotting garbage;

T: follows the nose, but there's a little pine and grapefruit in the background; a bit of tartness in the middle; finish is a harsh moderate bitterness that lasts a long time;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: can was 2 months old; not sure if this was a bad bottle, bad batch, or bad recipe, but this was undrinkable;

Palate Contaminants: a steak

The look is a clear, dark amber. Pleanty of fine head that lingers, leaving lots of lacing.

Smell is wheat, barley, and lemongrass. Slightly sweet. Overall, not as intense as I usually get for the style.

Barley is way stronger in the taste, and it actually is pretty woody (i.e., lots of husk). Sweetness is less than on the nose. Hoppiness is certainly present and accounted for, but the resulting flavor is just bitterness. It doesn't clash with the barley.

Carbonation is fine and well integrated. The barley fades in the aftertaste, but the bitterness hangs around.

The appearance has the SRM of an amber ale or a bock, malt dominates the profile but there is some hopiness there. A little unbalanced towards the malt, not great, but pleasant

Can dated best by June:
Pours a burnt orange leaning towards brown. Nice creamy head seems to have a burnt orange shade to it, as well. Quite nice lacing.

A roasted malt, grass and pine nose. Reminds me a tad of a spring pine forest during rain, with wet pine needles from last year. Little bit of cardboard, maybe a hint of age for an IPA.

Flavor isn't a surprise, a little more hop forward than I got from the nose. Definitely piney with a little toast underneath. A little flat feel, but no real sign of bad staleness. That said I could see this having a little more pop fresher. The pine bitterness is strong, but has soft edges, melding with the malt to produce a slight bit of a tea-like impression, medium in body.

A decent NW IPA, with a nice powerful bitterness, but a slightly dark malt base that comes through. The melding isn't bad, but a little less crisp than I like for my IPAs.
