look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: pours an amber color with a 1" head that recedes to a thick surface foam. Nice lace develops.

Smell: pine and bread coms through to the nose.

Taste: bready malt focus with some strong pine, greapefreuit, and a earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp to start, less crisp and a touch dry late.

Overall: if you like piney and earthy IPAs this one is for you.

The appearance has the SRM of an amber ale or a bock, malt dominates the profile but there is some hopiness there. A little unbalanced towards the malt, not great, but pleasant

Can dated best by June:
Pours a burnt orange leaning towards brown. Nice creamy head seems to have a burnt orange shade to it, as well. Quite nice lacing.

A roasted malt, grass and pine nose. Reminds me a tad of a spring pine forest during rain, with wet pine needles from last year. Little bit of cardboard, maybe a hint of age for an IPA.

Flavor isn't a surprise, a little more hop forward than I got from the nose. Definitely piney with a little toast underneath. A little flat feel, but no real sign of bad staleness. That said I could see this having a little more pop fresher. The pine bitterness is strong, but has soft edges, melding with the malt to produce a slight bit of a tea-like impression, medium in body.

A decent NW IPA, with a nice powerful bitterness, but a slightly dark malt base that comes through. The melding isn't bad, but a little less crisp than I like for my IPAs.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a golden amber color with a small head of white foam. The head has a decent level of retention fading to leave a little bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a bready smell mixed with some aromas of grapefruit and grassy hops. Along with these aromas comes some sweeter caramel and a little bit of melon smell.

Taste – The taste begins very bready with a rather strong showing of a caramel sweetness as well as a decent grapefruit hop. As the taste advances some sweeter fruit tastes of a tropical fruit nature (tangerine, mango, and papaya) take the place of the caramel sweetness with even more hop of a grapefruit nature coming to the tongue and being joined by a little bit of grass and herb. At the end some tastes of pine and earth join the hop profile and leave one with a rather malty, but hop balanced taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average side with a carbonation level that is average as well. For the nice mix of hop and malty flavors the feel is quite nice and creates a rather pleasant feel that accentuates the qualities of the brew well.

Overall – A rather tasty IPA overall. Nothing that will blow your mind, but overall very tasty and balanced even in light of its more malty body.

Bringing the auburn and amber colors together, creating a thick head that excels in the retention department from a height of 1/2". Aroma was hoppy, not really punchy for style though. If hopportunity knocks, its aroma knocks deftly without a grand announcement or loud doorbell.

Bitterness is sky high. All them C hops. And that's the summation of the beer's taste really. Super c hop ibu skyward. Just didn't really see a reason to have this one, they make good hoppy beers in 6 pack cans, why should I be into this bomber only beer? At more than twice the price per oz much less?

Hopportunity knocks, but just tell them no soliciting.
