The beer pours a pitch black color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It's bold on two fronts: earthy black malts and bitter hops. It's dry with a bold hop aroma along with an earthy, roasted feel. The taste is decent as well. It's a little off-centered. It has a killer hop bitterness that's borderline over the top. The malt bill provides some stability, but it's a little too "black" for my tastes. It muddles the hop flavor and leaves you guessing in the finish. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is an interesting take on the style. I prefer my black IPAs to be hop centric with just the required amount of black malt character to achieve the " black" color.

Cask at d.b.a., Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is very dark brownish amber in color and close to being near black (traces of amber are visible near the edges of the glass). It has no visible carbonation and poured with a thin ring of tan bubbles on the surface around the edge of the glass.
S: There are aromas of roasted malts in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the beer has some flavors of roasted malts but the beer itself isn’t that malty. There is a light amount of bitterness from the hops.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and very smooth on the palate and doesn’t have any carbonation.
O: The beer is well balanced between the hops and malts and is easy to drink.

Got this in a growler from Whole Foods. Appearance is jet black and aroma is reminiscent of a porter, mostly caramel / roasted malts and very little hops. The hops actually outweigh the malt in the flavor, though. There's a nice balance of light body, mild sweetness and distinct hop aftertaste that make for a very drinkable beer.
