Kaiser PilsnerKaiser Pilsner
Notes: Kaiser beer is the best selling pils beer and the one the most well known pilsner type beers in Greece.

Its production in Greece began in 1976 and the philosophy and tradition kept unchanged until today.

Kaiser Pilsner has a full, mature taste and deep golden color. These are some of the elements that makes it special and distinguishes it from other beers. It is brewed from select varieties of barley and hops which are fermented and matured slowly in order to provide its full, mature taste. Kaiser beer is a great choice for both an evening out and a meal with friends.

500 ml bottle, as Kaiser Pilsner, from a supermarket in Rhodos, Greece. Brewed by Henninger. ABV is 5%. Clear pale golden colour, large white head. Fairly fresh aroma, grassy notes. Crisp and clean flavour, fairly dry, moderate hops. Nothing exceptional here, but a well made pilsener it is.

I'm trying this at Metropol....my English translation....in the Plaka District of Athens. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had hints of grain. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with dry grain finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

Overall I was disappointed in this one. The best I can say about it is that the feel is light, crisp and seemingly refreshing. It should be a nice summer beer. However, the overall taste was bitter and left a lingering aftertaste. It was not from the hops; perhaps it was skunked. Also, although the bottle says 100% malt, the bitterness masked any malt flavor. Will not have again.

.5L brown glass bottle with gold branded foil-ed over unbranded pry-off pressure cap and generic label acquired at a Carrefour supermarket in Kardamena, Kos, and served into a pilsner glass in my hotel room. Reviewed live. Expectations are average. "100% Pure Malt." (Whatever the hell that marketing jargon is supposed to mean. Did you not use water, hops, or yeast? The beer is just malt put in a bottle? Is that what you're selling?).

This is definitely brewed by Mythos per Carlsberg's website: http://www.carlsberggroup.com/brands/Pages/KaiserPilsner.aspx

5% ABV. BB: 05/2015.

Served cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: 2 fingers wide. White in colour. No lacing sticks to the sides of the glass. Average complexion and consistency. Average (~2 minute) retention.

BODY: Copper. Average vibrance. Excellent clarity. Clean; no yeasty sediment or hop sediment is visible.

Appears undercarbonated. Far from unique or special for a pilsner. Generally appealing...

AROMA: Buttery/diacetyl off-notes. Clean barley. Helles malts and accompanying sweetness.

No alcohol, yeast, or overt hops are detectable.

Overall, it's a fairly pleasant aroma of average strength. I'm optimistic.

TASTE/TEXTURE: Insipid. Clean barley, a dab of helles malts, and some sweetness. It's as bland and boring as they come.

The texture is clean but not as crisp as would be ideal. It's adequately carbonated. Smooth, wet, unrefreshing.

There's little to say about it; it has no truly notable characteristics. Why brew this?

It's simple, n attribute which lends itself naturally to easy balance - yet this is too sweet. There's no subtlety here at all.

OVERALL: A boring pils you can safely skip over. Its blandness and neutrality would make it a decent beer pong brew, for the four American tourists per year in Greece who might give a shit about beer pong. It's drinkable, but damned insipid. Meh.
