Overall one of the best beers from Narke with some peatyness in the beer. Drank this one side by side with a Hel & Verdoemenis 666 from the Molen. They were quit equal...

Bottle at Akkurat

Pours an inky, oily black. Big fluffy tan head. Good head retention.

The aroma is balanced. Solid porter aromas of chocolate and light coffee. Touches of alcohol. Cognac and barrel are there but in balance.

The flavour delivers too. Alcoholic porter with touches of chocolate, dark fruit and malt. Alcohol and cognac barrel follow in their fruity, vanilla magnificence.

Medium-full body with a richness that is there but never cloying.

A wonderfully balanced beer. This delivers on so many levels. The layering of flavours is just right and makes for something truly special.

Thanks to queens1130 for sharing this one at AndrewK's tasting.

Brewed 3/2010. Bottled 10/2010.

Pours an opaque black with no head. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, smoked malt, cocoa, vanilla, and cognac aromas. Taste is much the same with smoke, char, and cognac flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a smoke presence that is more intense in the flavor.

25cl bottle, brewed March 2010, poured into a snifter. Thanks GTH!

A- Pours pitch black with some brown at the edges, a rough-ish pour produces only a thin, dark brown head, minimal lacing.

S- Really delicious aroma of cognac, dark chocolate, roast, oak. I'm a sucker for cognac aged beers, and the cognac aroma on this is great, so I'm pretty happy at this point.

T- Initially lots of bitter dark chocolate, roast and smoke, followed by cognac, more chocolate, vanilla, fruity boozy flavors, some lingering vinous flavors towards the end. The flavors here are complex, rich an very tasty.

M- Full-bodied, smooth, creamy and rich, only a hint of alcohol warmth at the finish.

O- A really wonderful beer, this pretty much lives up to my expectations, it's complex, delicious, and the cognac flavor is amazing.

Shared by Dan and I at a small tasting. Reviewed from notes. 25cl bottle into Drie Fonteinen stemware.

Pours a dense, .25 finger mocha head with moderate to good retention. Beer is opaque and pitch black. Lacing is stringy and spotty with good stick. Oily legs. A real nice looking brew.

Nose is very, very strange... and not in a good way. Huge hashish aroma with a smoky tartness. Some cocoa powder and roasted malt too. Very unique.

Opens smokey. Rotting wood, oxidized chocolate and cocoa. Some dark fruit, molasses and honey. Sweet end with a roasted malt finish. Sweet, oxidized chocolate aftertaste. A bit disappointing to be honest.

Full bodied with low carbonation. Oily and slick in the mouth and goes down smooth. Clean finish with a lingering aftertaste. Decent.

For as hyped as the Stormaktsporter series is, this unique and very rare beer is a huge disappointment. I don't know where the hashish aroma comes from but it doesn't work and is a huge detraction from the overall experience. Just not a very good beer overall.
