Had on tap at SMÖF 2012. This is the winner of the golden foam in 2011, so expectations are high.

Pours dark hazy amber, with a nice brownish foam.

Smells of yeast, smells of the forest (sap). Something sweet in there as well. Interesting!

Reminds me of a bock with a dark roasted flavour, but rounds of nicely with a citrusy bitterness.

Overall interesting with the forest-y notes.

Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention. Aroma of spruce with light cereal notes is quite pleasant. Taste is also a nice mix of spruce notes with some cereal notes and a dry finish. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Easy to drink with nice spruce notes that don’t overwhelm.

A clouded amber brew, an off-white head with little lacing but good curtains.

A sweet wooden resin smell, fruity, jelly bean flavors.

The taste starts candy sweet, raisins, dates, red berries, fir resin, som seed bitterness.

Light carbonation, soft and oily, a slightly dry finish.

Nice, more sweet fruits than fir though.

The colour is warm brown, the liquid clear. The low off-white slowly sinks down leaving some fine lacing.

The smell is yeasty and a bit phenolic. Tree sap, pine needles, and some perfumed detergents. Strange enough, it is well balanced and not artificial at all.

The taste starts with a clean bitterness, and then sweet woody notes emerge. Nutty roasted flavours, some perfume and beef stock. The aftertaste got clean background bitterness, some unripe nuts and growing alcohol flavours. Very dry hints of yeast and juniper berries in the finish.

The carbonation is mild, the small bubbles smooth. The liquid is dry.

An interesting beer: Just if it wasn’t for the overly dry notes in the finish.
