Brewed by:
Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company
Mississippi, United States

Style: English Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

Brown and clear, ok head but it didn't last or leave much lace.

Aroma and taste are plenty nutty, and for a "nut brown" I rather like this one. A good malty base and plenty of nuts, plus a good bitterness that seems higher than the listed 19 IBUs, even with a sweet finish.

Body is light with a sweet, nutty finish and plenty of crisp carbonation. I find the beer rather enjoyable.

Also had on tap recently, so this review is sort of a review of both, although the final review is from a bottle.

I had this at the Atlanta airport. Pours light brown with white head. Taste is nutty, earthy. Nose has some brown sugar, root beer, bread crust, but artificially sweet. Flavor is the same, frankly. Artificially sweet, brown sugar, root beer, root veg. Sweet finish.. I was hoping for a nice nut brown type flavor, however, I thought this was not good. I would not drink this again.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance - a lazy brown. Weak white head. Struggling to leave lace.
Smell - meh, pretty average, really.
Taste - sweet for a brown ale, but I'm not sure I detect any pecan.
Feel - light body, leaves a bit to be desired.
Overall - the style is a bit boring to me, and this one is about par for the course.
