Sweet Potato Stout, our original Sweet Potato Cream Stout, is the ideal Southern-style Stout. Brewed with roasted Southern-grown sweet potatoes, the background has an impressive taste with added notes of roasted chocolate, coffee, and caramel flavors with sweetening enhanced with lactose (milk sugar).

16 ounce pint - $4.75 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Very dark brown, nearing black in color with a scant, tan-hued head up on top.
Smell: Lightly roasty scent, hinting at a cup of weak coffee brewed for someone on a strict coffee budget or someone who really doesn't like coffee all that much. A bit of chocolate, vanilla. The nose isn't unpleasant, but it isn't one to reach out and grab you.
Taste: A sweetish taste of dark maltiness, though not overtly flavorful following the example of the aroma, offering up only mild flavors of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Thin sliver of dark fruitiness reminiscent of sweet grape. Very subtle bitterness. Semi-dry, malty, lightly minerally finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: A pedestrian brew, lacking presence. It left my hankering for something better, so I opted for a Bell's Kalamazoo for the next round.

Bottle at share, courtesy of Jeremy. Initially wasn't wowed by this beer, but it's hard to follow a Three Floyds dark lord. Still the beer offered a nice sweet sticky Stout experience, with the yams just providing an extra bit of sweetness to it. Best of all it was my first Mississippi tick.

Served in a beer mug at a restaurant with a finger of light brown head. Deep brown opaque color. Slight smell of malt. Mild milk stout flavor, not strong though. Pretty thin body with minimal carbonation. Drinkable but nothing special.

Color is opaque black with a 1/2 inch tan, thick, creamy head, receding moderately. No lacing from the head receding, but nice strings of lacing when you drink.
Aroma is roasty malts, coffee, hints of chocolate, hints of dark fruit.
Mouth feel is medium to thin, but creamy.
Taste is also roasty and coffee, as the aroma, but in addition there is a creaminess with a slight nuttiness. Initially there is a subtle sweetness, then a light bitterness, but the finish is dry and the aftertaste roasty and mildly bitter.
Overall, an easy drinking, roasty, creamy dry stout with a complex and slightly sweet flavor.

L: Deep dark brown, large head but with little retention or lacing.
S: Roasted malt, with small notes of coffee, molasses, and toffee.
T: Upfront metallic chocolate, some hop bite, and grainy quality, afterwards vegetal from the potatoes, not an improvement on a milk stout or brown - whatever this is.
F: Medium but watery body.
O: Drinkable but forgetable - not sure what the sweet potato added - if anything it took away from this stout that was more like a dark roasted brown ale

Look: Pours a dark chocolate brown/black with a milk chocolate colored, creamy head.
Smell: Hints of dark chocolate, coffee, lightly fruity or vegetabe-y?
Taste: Ah. There we go. All those notes in the nose come together splendidly. Tastes like a decent cup of black coffee with a hint of actual sweet potato. Indeed, that fruity yet rich vegetable nose was much fuller on the tongue. Bitterness comes in like rich, dark chocolate does; bitter up front and fades right as the other notes come in.
Feel: Solid feel. Somewhat rich and creamy but not too heavy on the stomach. Wouldn't probably finish a six pack of this, but I could try.
Overall: Absolutely great beer. Savoring every last bit of it. Would highly recommend.

From the bottle, it pours a dark brown, almost black, with a modest brown head that quickly reduces to a thin layer. Lacing as you enjoy it. Roasted malt and something else, possibly sweet potato? in the nose. Smooth wash of roasted malt over the tongue, followed by a roasted malt flavor. Nice!

My old neighbor and good friend gave me a bottle of this. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had hints of coffee grinds. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with earth and coffee base with a toffee finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its it's an ok beer.

Sweet Potato Stout pours a black color, with a nice, small long lasting head. Big sweet lactose aroma. Flavor is weak, but great sweet lactose flavors, with subtle sweet potato notes to finish. Weak body. Overall, its a tasty beer, great flavors, its just too weak to be truly great.

12 oz bottle dated FEB 21 2018 poured into Tallgrass globe snifter.
A really silky, decadent pour, it almost looks like dark chocolate liquid creamer. Deep dark brown to black. Head forms and is generous, angry red at 2 fingers. Recedes to a finger and the lacing sticks to the head to form a pseudo-dome around the glass.
Aroma is of strong chocolate milk, loud earthy sweet potatoes (how are you all not picking up on this?), slight earthy noble hop, and mineral.
Flavor is roasty, yet oddly earthy and sweet. I get light roasted barley (the variety, not as a descriptor), lactose, stale Hershey's bar, and at the tail end, some nice mashed sweet potato comes forward. The potatoes are not pronounced, but they are subtle and easily detectable if you're doing this right on a clean palate.
Feel has a well-lit carbonation but is not intense or disproportionate; a delicate yet intense silkiness; and a delightful polite roasted finish.
Overall, I think this stout, for what it is, is amazing. I could use a little more sweetness and flavor intensity, but that's about it. It's not imperial (as shown by the 4.5% ABV on the label) so don't expect it. Usually low ABV stouts ending up being porters, and high abv porters end up feeling like stouts. This is a low abv STOUT. It has the feel, the flavor, and the overall vibe of the style and isn't imperial or overly strong. Well-done.

Look - dark black - no light gets through - low on carbonation and not very active -
Smell - chocolate and toffee - some vegetable and spice
Taste - decent hops upfront then some charred grains come in. It sweetens and you get some of the sweet potato / earthy / spice notes. Still some chocolate and hints of coffee
Feel - feels a bit thin for a stout but is a lower ABV beer - more like a session stout. Flattens out quickly, but some bubbles and lacing continue - medium bodied but was hoping for a full bodied beer
Overall - this is a decent stout. Some complexity in there even though it is a thinner brew. Nice sweet potato flavors and lactose sweetness.
