The remaining wilderness surrounding the Indian Ocean's Bay of Bengal is the last great stronghold for earth's most formidable terrestrial predator: The Bengal Tiger. Christian Moerlein got this one right. Exactly what I was looking for out of a double IPA. Poured a reddish copper color with limited slim head that quickly dissipated. It's aroma was sweet with hints of pine, citrus and vanilla. The pronounced hops flavor at first sip is strong, yet pleasant, filling the mouth with both a bitterness and creaminess. The hops definitely linger allowing you to know that is a Moerlein statement brew. Falconer's Flight and Centennial hops help in making this a memorable and very enjoyable DIPA. This very well rounded and balanced DIPA makes its 8.9% ABV hardly noticeable. Well done Christian Moerlein! Northern Liberties was good, but you have outdone yourselves with Bay Of Bengal!

Leading with a host of tropical fruits, the imperial IPA shifts from gullet-gripping bitterness to smoother, softer and more rounded taste. Christian Moerlein brewers jump on the bandwagon with Bay of Bengal; showing local Cincinnati sports fans that it's ok for them to like craft beer too.

Hazy in its amber striations, the hoppy ale could easily be mistaken for fruit punch. Further reinforcing such wonderful confusion, vibrant aromas captivate the senses with mango, passionfruit, pineapple and apricot. With the malt sweetness greeting the taste, a notion of honey-dipped fruit comes about.

Medium-bodied with bready malt structure, the supple sweetness of angel food cake shine a path for the trample of hops that ensue over the middle palate. Rife with its boldly stated tropical medley, a host of citrus joins the fray with red grapefruit, tangerine, cantaloup and nectarine.

Firm yet graceful in finish, the malts subside slightly to allow the crisp and clean bitterness to close the beer remarkably refreshing for such strength and fruit-dominance. Grassy with verbena, sassafras tea and a pep of spruce link up with the seemingly pectin bite of peach pits and skins.

Huge skunky, dank, catty aroma, with tropical fruit hints of mango and citrusy tangerine accompanying resin and a slightly bready malt. Flavor reveals similar characteristics, with a very bitter, earthy, resiny, grassy finish. The finish is too bitter and resiny for my palate, but the flavoring hops of tropical fruit and citrus are great.

this has a beautiful golden amber color. Khaki head nice and foamy. Malty, citrusy, slight lemon and pine.
Taste is similar to the aroma with a grapefruit back.
The mouth is gorgeous. Nice bitterness that I love in a double IPA.
This has become one of my favs!

This is an outstanding double IPA. Nice color, citrus like scent, super smooth and drinkable. My storekeep told me this selection had a higher IBU of any other beer in his stock. I didn't even notice. Watch the alcohol content as I have no doubt it could sneak up on a drinker in a hurry. Very impressed.

I picked a 6pck of this from my local Kroger....the can I opened was about 4oz short of being full. It poured clear copper with thin white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had some pine citrus mix. The taste was nicely balanced for a DIPA. Some citrus peel with touch of pine. The Mouthfeel was flat. Overall it's ok.

No doubt the reason this infers a Bengal Tiger is the color as it has a gorgeous hue of Orange.

The nose is full of citrus and tropical fruits. Oranges, tangerines, nectarines and apricots meld with pineapple and tropical fruit punch. The nose is tremendous.

The flavor has a burst of Orange, pineapple and honey. The mid palate delivers a more malty caramel and barley as it ends with startling bitterness. The shocking bitterness holds on for a while as a perceptive warmth course through the chest.

Absent the bitterness this is Moerlein's best beer I've had.

As soon as I popped the top on this can the foam began to creep out. As a matter of fact I couldn't even get this one poured before it was running over. Watch out for the carbonation.

Pours to a deep, perfect amber toned body hosting a full two inches of thick off white foam head. Head turns rock as it slowly fades and leaves clumps of lace behind.

Nose is of faint citrus and resin based hops. Has a nice malt backbone to the nose as well. Nicely fragrant but not a hop bomb on the nose.

The flavor follows the nose very closely. Citrus plays on both the juicy side as well as the rind based. Resin is there as well but clings to the malt character as to not let the malt come through as a heavily noticeable factor. This is a very tasty Double IPA. At 8.9% alcohol it is way to easy to drink. Very well hidden alcohol. Drinkability is off the chart. If I could rate just drinkability it would easily be a 5. Easily the best beer I have had from this brewery.
