Appearance – This Dunkles was crystal clear light brown in color with a smallish, dissipating head that is typical of the style.

Smell – The light, sticky malts where a bit bready. They were complimented with some molasses notes and some light grain.

Taste – The grain here is toasted bread with some sticky sugars. It is a plain, very basic flavor profile of malts and light sugars.

Mouthfeel – This light to medium-bodied MDL had just a touch of bitterness to the finish.

Drinkability – This is an uninspiring but easy-drinking offering from Hudepohl.

Thanks to the folks at Christian Moerlein for giving us this gift for our BA gathering! 12oz. bottle poured into a tall half liter German mug. It pours a deep reddish brown color with three fingers of head. There's a good deal of lacing. The smell is a little bit light, but has some nice toasted caramel malt character. A little sweet, a little roasted. The taste is also a little on the light side. It has that same caramel maltiness up front and just the slightest bit of hops on the finish. The mouthfeel is decently thick for a dunkel. The drinkability is great. A decent Cincinnati brew!

A gift received at the IN/KY gathering. Thanks brewdlyhooked13 for finding some goodies to share with us.

Ths beer poures a very clean slightly rubied brown color with a 2 finger head that falls to right over the liquid. I would like to see just a slight darker color. The nose is nutty and slightly roasted. Smells pretty nice. The flavor is just okay. The nutty tones are not as strong as they are int he nose. Its is too much like a regular lager wtih just a slight more roasty character. I'd like to see stronger flavor from the dark malts. The feel is a light moderate with a very active carbonation. Overall, I could sit down and drnk a few of these very easily. There is nothing greatly flawed with it, just things that don't meet my expectations. I like the flavor, but want more of it. My first brew from this company. I'll have to grab their mixed party pack next time I am at the store. I'll definately give them a look.

Got this free at the IN/KY BA gathering at Rich O's along with a doppelbock. Nice!

Great looking beer. Very appropriate carbonation for the style...not too much but definately substantial. Rich, deep dark red color. Almost purple maybe?? Nice head. Quite persistant.

Nose is a little rough. Not so smooth. Little bit of fermentation character still present...diacetyl?? Definately kind of buttery. They should employ a diacetyl rest. I want nothing but smooth rich munich malts in the nose of a dunkel.

Taste is a bit of a let down too. There is definately some munich character, but it tastes cheap. Not crisp and smooth. It's pretty good though. It's definately nice and clean, just a bit of this fermentation character, don't know how else to describe it. Just not crisp and rich munich notes...maybe it's the diacetyl too??

Good mouthfeel. Right on for the style.

Pretty drinkable beer, but gets a little old. I want something that's just more of that crisp munich character.

Major props to Greg and crew at Christian Moerlein for providing a sample of this brand new offering to the attendees of the BA gathering in New Albany this past weekend. Not yet on store shelves, we are fortunate to get a peak freshness early taste.

Appearance - beatiful dark amber and brown hue. Light tan head is thin and recedes quickly to a thin cap and crown. Rich looking.

Aroma - roasted malts are moderate in their intensity but very pleasant.

Taste - mirrors the aroma with its clean roasted malt flavor. Some hops sneak in at the swallow, this one ends on a sweet note of caramel and roasted malts. Still has some moderation to the flavor intensity, I think it's tastier from the tap, as it should be.

Mouthfeel - heavier than average, right where it oughtta be. Carbonation is peppy but not so much as to interfere with the flavor.

Drinkability - the dunkel and the doppelbock varieties are the 2 newest in the CM lineup. I tend to prefer this style and drinkability is one reason why. Given above average marks across the board, this is a tasty one I can drink all night. With these new style entries, their new Octoberfest, and a hefeweizen due out in April, CM should take the necessary steps to secure their own beer tent at this year's Octoberfest Zinzinnati, and then you all should come visit and stay at my place. All 23,000+ of you, lol.

Pours from the bottle a nice clear brown with hints of red and gold coming through. A khaki head appears on top and then fades to a ring around the glass. Aromas of caramel, a hint of chocolate, some berries and some graininess. Not bad...but a little subdued..nothing jumps out at me.

First sip brings a nice roasty dark malt that has notes of caramel and chocolate. Fairly creamy on the way down with some herbal, spicy hops in the background. I get some hints of light fruit and berries as well as a bit of toffee and burnt grains. A nice dunkel.

Mouthfeel has a good medium body with solid bubbly carbonation that rolls over the palate nicely. Drinkability is good...I could see this being a nice session beer..I like the roasty cocoa and caramel notes. I'm not a huge lager fan..but I enjoyed this one. Thanks to brewdlyhooked13 and Christian Moerlein for the opportunity to try this one.
