So my mai-bock obsession continues. Didn't want to buy a whole sixer of this as I'm not a huge fan of CM beers but what the hell. We shall see.

Pours a polished copper with a large foamy head of white very soapy and like shampoo lather.

Nice nose of toffee, caramel, big bready malts. Very clean aromas with some floral and spicey hop esters in the end.

Taste a slightly sweet and slightly cloying on the finish. Zippy carbonation, big toffee, noble hop presence in the middle with floral, and spicey notes, but need more bittering in the finish. Again just slightly cloying. A bit buttery on the finish as well. Some acidity in the chest. Yep now I will be looking at five more of these.

I’ve done my part for the betterment of the community today. This decent, but not overwhelming brew is 6.5% ABV, at least according to the online menu of the restaurant Christian Moerlein just opened in Cincinnati. I submitted an update to the powers that be at BeerAdvocate. You’re welcome.

STYLE: Maibock / Helles Bock

ABV: 6.5%

LOOK: Golden orange, iced tea. Nonstop rush of bubbles.

NOSE: Malty dominance, bitter honey, walnuts.

MOUTH: Bananas, lemon, bubblegum. A little too banana maybe, which says to me neither “Spring” nor “Cincinnati.” Whatever. There’s a dry, not altogether pleasant finish that’s a tad too sharp to follow the sweet fruity notes.

Pours a clear golden copper color with a fairly solid one inch cream head that dissipates somewhat quickly, leaving spotty lacing.

Aroma is laden with melanoidin character, caramelized malt, buttery toffee, slightly nutty, with a mild floral hop finish. There's a bit of metallic tang.

Flavor reveals much more of the metallic tang, which underlies caramel malt, toasted breadcrust, leading into a slightly bitter, dry finish. A bit of malt sweetness and floral hop flavor becomes evident as the tang subsides.

Body is moderate, with moderate carbonation and a bit of grainy astringency. Alcohol warmth hits the belly.

Overall, there are some off flavors...or maybe the wrong type of hops were used if that flavor is hop derived. Was hoping for more malt complexity for the style.

A: poured into my pint glass a golden, light copper color. Semi aggressive pour that yields a thin white head. No lacing.
S: all sweetness here. Some buttery notes accompanied by bread malts. Maltbomb?
T: very sweet and bready at the front but balanced nicely by some bitterness toward the middle, the first sign of hops. Finish is a combination of each. The flavors seem to be right but need to be amped up. Also some warmth as it goes down the hatch.
M: decently carbonated but morphs into a nice creaminess. The finish, which is sweet, hangs around a while. Pleasant.
O: Not a bad beer. The mouthfeel, body and aromas are all done well. The flavor just need to stand out a tad more.

Had this last night at Maifest in Covington. In the plastic cup it appeared semi-clear golden blonde to amber with a nice big white head that lasted until the end. The aroma was noble hops with some grassy and grainy smells. The taste follows the same path with sweet grainy flavors leading the way to caramel/butterscotch. The mouthfeel is full and has some residual sweetness like most of Moerlein's beers. It left the inside of my mouth feeling kind of sticky. Nothing outstanding but overall not a bad offering from Moerlein.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass. Clear gold in color, with a big, billowy head of off-white foam.
Aroma-Toasted malt
Taste-Sweet, toasted malt, buttered saltine cracker. Clean finish. Pleasant and easy-drinking. Sessionable. A nice craft "starter" brew.

Enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a pint glass. This maibock pours a brilliant clear gold color with a moderate white head of dissipating foam that settles to a thin pool and decent ring with little lacing. Nose of fresh baked bread, sweet caramel notes, and floral hop. Tastes follow the nose with moderately sweet caramel notes mixed with a light bread flavor and a floral and moderately bitter hop note. Crisp mouth feel is nicely carbonated and lively with a slight dry finish. While I love Moerlein, this is a bit too hoppy to be equal to the German originators. A solid, sessionable, drinkable lager with a lingering hoppy aftertaste.

Cheers
