Not aggressive, but flavourful and quite enjoyable. This wet hop has an abundance of hop character on the front. But, a clean and fresh beer more akin to a lager or pil rather than an ale. For those who like American hop bombs but want something they can drink all day. I love anything wet hop and this is no exception. Again, not super complex but it does not lack character and is very drinkable.

Purchased at the LCBO for $9.95 for a 750ml bottle. Starting to really hate the big bottles. No value there. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass.

A- Opens well and pours a 1" high white head that lasts for over 5mins before film out. Nice medium to darkish gold colour and.... yay! unfiltered

S- Oodles of hops. Nice hoppy experience.

T- Mellow. Not the hop bomb I have read from other reviews. Nice blend of malt to hop ratio that does not leave the brew unbalanced. Sweet to a degree. A bit more sweet that you would typically find out there which is refreshing. Not a syrupy sweet by any stretch. Hop blend must include only a touch of "C" hops and higher on others. Again not a hop bomb by any stretch.

M- Dry and crisp as expected.

O- I like this one. Won't buy it again in a large format as the value factor drops dramatically because of it but I sure do like this one. Will buy on tap if I ever see it.

Food Pairing

This wonderful little brew went very well with...... Grilled lamb shoulder chops believe it or not. Rosemary, lemon juice, pepper, garlic and a touch of mustard to marinate overnight then grill quickly. Super quick meal and it's tasty!

A light honey colour. Slightly hazy. One inche of fine white head with larger bubbles on the top. Some slow carbonation. Great lacing ends up coating the glass.

A nice citrus aroma. Mango, grapefruit and melon. Not super bitter with a touch of sweetness.

The taste is not quite the same as the aroma. It is not mango citrus but more pine, herbs and floral. A steely taste. Not a hop bomb but definitely hop forward. Mild floral aftertaste in the middle of the palette.

Medium to light feel.

A nice wet-hopped aroma. Interesting non-standard hop profile. But too pricey.

Golden with a light haziness and an extraordinarily high amount of tornado like carbonation. Topped with 2 fingers of white head.

Smells of peaches and mild oranges, a light and floral aroma.

Tastes amazingly strong in the flavours, but very light and refreshing. Pineapple and peach soft candies, gummy and kids candy.

Light body, with a moderate amount of carbonation.

Delicious brew! Got in Southern Ontario, and drinking it at Muskoka, Dec 9th, 2017.

750ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $6.95

Appearance - Clear gold colour with an average size white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, hops, caramel, apricots, grapefruit

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, and hops. There is also some apricots and grapefruit and a bit of a graininess.

Overall - Don't get me wrong, this is a tasty very sessionable beer. But it doesn't really taste harvest/wet-hoppy to me. It tastes a little bit like their Naughty Neighbour beer but a little more muted. Okay to try once, I just expected more hop freshness from something bottled so recently.

Appearance: It has a nice hazy deep golden/yellow color to it. It has a nice off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints piney resins, citrus, some grapefruit and sweet caramelly malts.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some bitter pine resins, some citrus and grapefruit, some breadiness and sweet caramel.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

750 mL bottle picked up at the LCBO; packaged on 09/25/13. Nickel Brook has really been stepping up their game over the last year or so, and that (combined with my undying passion for hoppy brews) made this bottle a pretty easy sell. I'm also rather interested to see what these Bertwell hops have to offer. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a foggy golden-yellow colour, topped with just over one finger's worth of foamy, sparkling white head. Decent retention; it takes more than a minute or two for the head to die down into a soapy cap, leaving some scattered strands of lacing behind as it does so. Great aroma on this one - one whiff and my nose is immediately inundated with notes of orange/grapefruit citrus, wet pine needles and floral hops. Hop-forward, as advertised.

Pretty tasty stuff, containing a good dose of tropical fruit flavour that I don't tend to expect from this style. Grapefruit pith comes through initially, along with some hints of pine and apricot. Grainy pale malts and a weak note of caramel counteract the hops effectively, with the flavour profile ending in a sort of candied grapefruit vibe - both bitter and sweet at the same time. On the lighter side of medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation that gives this brew an appropriate bite. Very balanced and drinkable for a hop-forward ale - I could probably get through at least two of these big bottles in a night, and as a bonus I wouldn't need to worry about killing my tastebuds with over-the-top hop astringency, either.

Final Grade: 3.86, a B+. Nickel Brook Ontario Wet Hop Pale Ale gets a solid thumbs up from this reviewer - there's nothing groundbreaking here, but it's still a supremely quaffable, well-balanced ale that I'd consider picking up again. The hop bill might come off as a bit too subtle for the hardcore hopheads, as it lacks the intensity of many comparable OCB APAs (such as this brewery's Naughty Neighbour). All-in-all, though, this is an enjoyable brew that is at least worth one purchase - grab one while it's still fresh!

Impressive hop menu here yielding less than satisfying taste results. Found this beer to be crisp and super fresh, but has more of a floral presence rather than a piney one. Non-IPA lovers may find this more enjoyable. Bottled from LCBO.

A-Copper orange with a white head
S-More on the dank side with earth herbal notes and grassy tones
M-Mouthfeel is light and watery with carbonation at a medium level
T-Bitter upfront but not overpowering. Quite dry and doesn't really have any malt flavour
O-I'll give it points for being a wet hop beer which is difficult to achieve correctly, but otherwise lacklustre

I'm glad this is now in 473ml cans, as the larger-format bottle seemed like a bit of a rip-off. Unfortunately, this is a rather underwhelming beer. For all the talk of fresh local hops, I get much less of the juicy fresh hop aroma I was hoping for from this than I did from the can of Naughty Neighbour I finished right before.

750 ml bottle purchased for something in the neighbourhood of $10 CDN. Served cold into a pint glass.

Appearance - slightly hazy, yellow and slightly orange in color. Topped by two fingers of fluffy and extremely frothy white head. Fantastic lacing that is reminiscent of spiderwebs clings to the glass.

Smell - leafy aromas, little bit of lemon and lime smell. A little bit earthy.

Taste - somewhat sweet and a light lime flavor. Some earthiness blended in too. Hop flavor is most prevalent here.

Mouthfeel - light body and spritzy feel. Medium carbonation and wet finish. Pretty good.

Overall - a well crafted beer that definitely focuses on the leaguer aspect of hops as it tastes like you'd expect, citrusy and leafy. A good beer, that I might revisit if it came in more manageable quantities.
