this is a tasting of an older bottle. Beer poured into pint glass, color is light brown, head is very thin and dissipates quickly.

Smell is mild chocolate and toasty malts, mild nutty and toffee notes, not fresh but not too old.

Taste is a little sweet, light caramel and chocolate, strong bitter mouthfeel but not too much in the flavor in terms of hops, maybe some grassiness.

Mouthfeel is a little bitter, but not overly so, expected for this type of brew. Lingering sweetness helps to balance, but bitterness lingers on tongue.

Overall, this is a beer with good bones, maybe a bit above average for a brown ale; would like find it again some time in AZ.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a half inch of medium beige-hued froth.

Smell: Roasted malt fighting for attention with plump purple raisins of all things with slightly lesser notes chocolate, toast, etc.

Taste: Roasted malt with not too much sharpness to it from the assumed black patent, slight chocolate undertone with a charred nuttiness throughout. Faint, gotta-look-for-it caramel accent. Lightly sweet. Some dark fruitiness, though expanding as it warms to a full-blown moist raisin flavor. Spicy European hops with enough bitterness when aided by the roast and crisp carbonation. Slight addition of pepper throughout. Gently roasty, fruity finish with amply suds.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: A sufficient though not outstanding brown.

saw this beer in a local grocery store and figured i would give a try. Surprisingly a fairly well balanced beer! it's exactly what a nut brown ale is supposed to be. Color was dark with creamy head, had a nutty aroma, drank smooth and easy. Sat extremely well in my mouth and smell wasn't harsh at all, faint coffee hints. Definitely will drink this one again!

A: Poured a dark, nut colored brown with a solid pillowy head that lingered.
S: Smell was of roasted malt mostly with a hint of earth complimenting it.
T: The flavor i thought was fantastic, some roast but not a lot, with a strong chestnut flavor dominating afterward leading to a dry, almost grassy finish.
M: the feel was the least impressive part of this beer, just average for the style.
O: I would recommend this beer to anyone, and have to all who will listen, I thought it was the best brown I've tried, though I don't claim to be a connoisseur of the style.

Consumed June 24th, 2012. Poured into a Samuel Adams "perfect pint" glass.

Beer is a clear dark brown with deep maroon highlights when held to sunlight. Moderate pour resulted in a one finger light tan head. Only a couple of minutes later, the head was just a thin crown leaving modest sheeting.

Aroma is roasted nuts, coffee, mocha and caramelized sugar. A dash of nutmeg and vanilla as well.

Flavor is moderately roasted malt and a touch of vanilla to start. A slight metallic midtaste is a flaw, but it fades fast, replaced with a deep, lingering but restrained bitterness akin to coffee. More complex than anticipated.

Mouthfeel is slightly thick, smooth (falling just short of creamy) and has a bit of carbonation tingle to it.

Overall, a better than average brown. I would gladly drink this one again.

Picked up a sixer to share with friends form AJ's. While not amamzing, it's a decent brown ale with a little hops accent. The aroma has a big dark chocolate character, while the flavor is tastes more like dark bread crust with a hint of toast. The hops pop in for balance and a nice citrus hit, but this beer is a little sweet. Not a bad brown at all, but I'd consider it more of an American take on the style.

Poured into a tall tumbler, Nimbus Nut Brown Ale is brown with a tan head that leaves foamy lace.

Smell is lightly toasted malt, a bit sweet, caramel.

Taste is malty, a bit sweet, but it's mostly killed by the diacetyl, loads of butterscotch. It's rather phenolic as well, plastic. A little cocoa.

Mouthfeel is a bit watery, light bodied.

Drinkability isn't too high. Not impressed. I bought this at a Scottsdale Bevmo just a few days ago and am still in town, so while it maybe a bad bottle/batch, it's representative of what their local audience would be drinking.
