Got this at the De Molen beer shop in Bodegraven.

From a bottle into a snifter
This is a blend of virgin oak, bourbon and bordeaux barrels.
Bottled 19 November 2013
24 Plato
EBC: 297
EBU: 102

APPEARANCE: A clear brown pour yields a 1+ finger, medium looking, creamy, tan head with great retention. Clear black body with no carbonation evident. Head fades to a solid cap and sticks to the glass. A foamy ring remains the whole way leaving touches of lacing down the glass. Thinner in color like most of these stouts, but the head is more impressive here.

SMELL: Lots of oak, wood, vanilla, dark chocolate, light roasted notes and some caramel sweetness in there. Light touches of red wine as well. Pretty nice.

TASTE: Nice stuff. Oak, bourbon, vanilla and dark baker's chocolate up front. Quite flavorful. Big and lingering finish with more oak, wood, bourbon, sweet caramel and vanilla flavors, cocoa powder and some bitter dark chocolate. Some roasted grain joins the bitter chocolate in balancing the sweet bourbon barrels, which shows how well these guys balance the barrels and the base stout. A touch of red wine tartness from the bordeaux barrels linger in the finish. Really nice.

PALATE: Fuller body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes mouth-coating. A bit of a burn and some heat lingers, though thicker, fuller and creamier than most of the other variants. Good feel.

OVERALL: This was excellent. Really nicely blended with wood, bourbon and tart wine flavors meshing seamlessly, then a strongly roasted and bitter base stout adding its pat to the mix. This is a great example of how well De Molen barrel ages beer. They crank them out regularly, but the quality, as this one shows, if often unparalleled. Highly recommend this one if you come across it. Cheers!

33cl bottle. Pours a very dark brown, with a tall and fine grained espresso head that is slow to rise to the surface - it looks perfect. The retention is excellent. Complex smell, dark cherries, cocoa, milk chocolate, coconut, wine barrel, whiskey barrel and bourbon. The taste does not let down - very well balanced and very complex. Notes of cocoa, milk chocolate, cherries, some dried fruit, whiskey, red wine, barrel sourness. Smooth mouthfeel (if it were a bit more thick it would have been a 5), medium to low carbonation and a very chocolatey aftertaste.

Very complex brew. You can really taste the different barrels. First some fruitiness from the port barrel, then you get some sweet bourbon notes and in the finish lots of dark, bitter chocolate. Another excellent beer from De Molen!

In tears as I write this review...because this beer is almost gone. Enjoying the final sips as I write. Acquired this bottle at De Molen bottle shop 5 March 2015. Opened the bottle Easter day 2015. As soon as I opened the bottle and poured, overwhelming smell of barrels! Very nice... Mouth started to water. Taste mouthfeel... All as expected from one of De Molen's best.... This one even more...so very nice and smooth. Overall.... Absolutely fucking awesome!!!!
