S - Vanilla and sweet malts
T - Sweet vanlla flavours with a touch of spice. Heavy wood flavours and bourbon

Pours black with a finger and a half of khaki foam. Head retention is great. Aroma is roasted, toasted, and nutted malts. There is a bit of bubblegum, which feels off. Caramel, and resiny, pine hops protrude through as well. Flavor profile is roasted, toasted, nutted, and caramel malts. Caramel, and toffee add a little to the sweetness which balances out the resiny, pine hops that start to show up as the beer finishes. There is still an off note of bubblegum, but it's minor. Mouth feel is medium in thickness, with a velvety feel. Overall, a hearty stout with good qualities. Malts are nice, with noticeable hops that add to the balance and experience.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz bottle.

2013 vintage poured from fridge temp. Pours dark brown with nice 1 inch head. The nose is the strong point in this beer. Blew me away. Big notes of bourbon, licorice, and molasses. The taste wasn't as good as the nose, but still good. I am getting a lot of sweetness, bourbon, caramel, licorice, slight bitterness, blackberries, cherries, and some candied sugar. The aftertaste is a bit sour, which is a bit off putting. The mouthfeel was a bit thinner than expected, but good. Alcohol heat was definitely present.

Poured to a teku glass.

A: The body is pitch black opaque with some coppery hues when seen against the light. The head is beige and very minimal, expected for the amount of alcohol present here.
S: The aroma is very rich of coffee, toffee, candy like profiles and roasted malts. No alcohol is noticed. Very well.
T: The taste is very rich in chocolate, creating a very good connection between the sweetness of coffee and toffee and the bitterness of the hops used here, even though they weren't that many. Interesting.
M: The mouthfeel is medium high to high. Carbonation is low and perfect. Bitterness is great because you get the bitterness of hops and the bitterness of dark chocolate. Great.
O: Nice things being done at De Molen.

Pours a deep brown with a smallish khaki head that dissipates rather quickly and leaves just spotty lace. Nose is sweet caramel, bourbon, and some dark malt fruity notes. Taste packs a good bourbon punch. Not overly harsh on the alcohol side, but the beer itself does come across a bit on the harsh side. Plenty of dark malt, and the second half of the glass felt quite a bit smoother than the first. Mouthfeel was medium...maybe a bit light for what I'd like in this style. Overall, a good beer with plenty of bourbon BA flavor, but not a great beer.

L: Jet black color, quarter finger tanned color head, no lacing, good carbonation.

S: Raisins, booze, vanilla, malt.

T: Coffee, dark chocolate, raisins. Sour and malty on the back end.

F: Full bodied, yet smooth.

O: Decent beer. Will I buy it again? Not really.

33cl bottle - bottled 28-12-2015. Dark brown pour, with a modest tan head that is replaced by a thin lacing. Smells of caramel, toffee, bourbon, dark cherries, chocolate and alcohol. Tons of bourbon in the taste, sweet caramel, walnuts, toffee and a hint of sweet coffee. Very smooth mouthfeel, with maybe just a bit too much alcohol in the aftertaste. Excellent beer.

Got this one from the De Molen beer shop in Bodegraven. Another barrel aged Rasputin variant...

From a bottle into a snifter
Bottled 28 November 2013
23 Plato
EBC: 202
EBU: 46

APPEARANCE: Pours out transparent light brown and yields a thin and bubbly, off-white head that quickly vanishes. Lousy retention. A faint, swirly wisp and bubbly ring remain. Transparent bistre brown body with no carbonation evident. A ring remains with touches of lacing down the glass. Just too thin and light for the style.

SMELL: Bourbon, vanilla cream, coconut, with toffee and butterscotch aromas. Some oak and milk chocolate as well. Bold and pretty good.

TASTE: Watery. Harsh bourbon, alcohol, some tartness and industrial cleaning alcohol up front. Big and boozy finish with more alcohol, hair spray, cleaner, sweet butterscotch and touches of oak. This is harsh and very spirit forward, while also being watery though the middle and into the finish. Harsh and alcoholic.

PALATE: Thinner body and lower levels of carbonation. Watery on the palate, goes down watery with a harsh burn at the swallow and finishes sticky. Heat and burn lingers. Watery and thin with low levels or carbonation.

OVERALL: This was really rough going. Usually these Rasputin variants are mediocre, as Rasputin itself is rather mediocre, but this one was just an abomination. It's not Rasputin's fault either; it's just too boozy and harsh, while the bottling process resulted in a flat and relatively watery beer. Perhaps the barrels were not up to par in this case. Either way this one is lousy and drain really helped me out of a jam. Luckily these guys make piles of other awesome beer that I can forget this one. They can't all be winners.
